Alrighty everyone, the game is finally out in all primary regions.... IDreamofHime was the first to receive their copy here on the boards. This is the place to discuss it!!!

Welcome to the thread on Negative World where all wondrous Zelda talk can occur. I would recommend that if you wanna talk about deeper-game stuff as we get going, perhaps spoiler-tag it and then describe outside of spoilers where in the game it is. The recent Super Mario 3D Land Discussion Thread is a good example. That'll allow people who aren't too far to read the thread without actually spoiling stuff for them. Just try to be courteous but definitely have fun with the game and discussions!!

Have ye what it takes?

Be sure to hit up the Skyward Sword Game Page and add the game to your collection once you've received yours. Be sure to mark it as "Playing" while you work on it and after you're played it sufficiently, give it a score you deem fitting!

If you've beaten the game, click on over to roykoopa64's Skyward Sword story/ ending discussion (SPOILERS), and general thoughts thread! It's like this thread part deux!!

It was actually a HIMYM reference. ...well 2% off a HIMYM reference .

Sixth dungeon down. I'm not a fan of the Ghirahim fights. I know you're supposed to use your sword to lure his guard one way, whilst you attack from the other side. But switching sides that fast seems to result in a a swing (which is blocked). Landing hits on him seems to be more a matter of random luck than skill.

Re-fallen in love with this game. The game feels very lonely somehow, and the majority of the music is very Secret Of Mana-ish. A lot of it is very sad sounding. Love that kind of soundtrack. Reminds me of Chrono Trigger as well. It's a very unique sound.
12/04/11, 10:48
Whoa. Just did the story sequence after the sixth dungeon.

Zelda is the goddess Hylia? Holy shit. And time to claim the Triforce! Oh yeah.

BTW the sapling Groose talks about planting...wonder if that's supposed to become the Deku Tree...

@gamewizard65

Just from where I stand, if any other video game offered a different difficulty mode after completing the game, it wouldn't be treated as a spoiler. "Hey guys, I'm replaying the game on Hard Mode" I don't think would be cause for alarm in any other situation. I guess I technically had this "spoiled" for me a few weeks ago, but it hardly affected my first playthrough of the game. Just seems like we have to make an exception for Nintendo here because they do things differently.

Frankly, I think posts saying "Just beat X dungeon" is a bigger spoiler. Majora's Mask and Wind Waker certainly don't have the number of dungeons that other Zelda games have. I certainly don't have a problem with it, because there's no real other way to discuss the game and let people know how far you've gotten and to which point your spoilers apply. But let's be honest -- that's still information that impacts the first playthrough.

I'll use spoiler tags when discussing my second playthrough from here out, my goal isn't to piss anyone off. Just seems ticky-tacky to me, that's all. It's hardly the Green Star Challenge that was "spoiled" here.

So I'm getting vibes of the original LoZ here, in a bad way... I'm in the fire temple, and as far as I can tell, I need the slingshot to get past a certain door. But I'm out of seeds. And no enemy drops them.

Why do Zelda games get off on being withholding? Having to backtrack just to get ammo is so frickin' annoying.

Having to worry about ammo is one of the reasons I don't like shooters...

@Guillaume

Look closer perhaps. I never found myself in a situation where the game didn't provide ammo for such an occasion. So you're perhaps missing some pot here or there that should provide for you. Plus, that's partially perhaps incentive to upgrade your seed pouch.
12/04/11, 20:20
I HAD upgraded it. But never got the seeds to fill it up.

But that's okay. While typing this I figured out it's not the slingshot I need. I hadn't played in so long, I had completely forgotten about the beetle!
12/04/11, 20:32
Yeah, same thing happened with me @Guillaume. I can't remember at what point in the game, but I was out of projectiles, at least I thought I was. I had completely forgotten about the beetle.
12/04/11, 20:40
@Guillaume

Ah! I'm pretty sure the game is good about providing what you need so something felt fishy to me.

@Simbabbad

Simba, if the spoilers are *properly marked* then it isn't an issue. That's why I'm always careful to mention what stage of the game I'm up to first. If I see someone is at the same (or earlier) stage of the game then I am, then I consider the spoilers to be safe.

*You* do not get to determine what is considered a spoiler or not. That's why we play it safe.

We had people similarly deriding the use of spoilers for 5 -year old info in Stache's Twilight Princess thread. A thread where it specifically stated that he hadn't finished the game, and indeed was completely unaware of the late-game content. That situation is multiplied many times over here.

Just because *you*don't consider something to be a spoiler does not mean others here share your view. It is them you have to consider.
12/04/11, 21:15
Hey we do the best we can. I'm honestly not entirely sure why it is such a huge annoyance, it takes a half a second to move the mouse over spoiler-marked text. Is it just the visual aspect of seeing all of this blackened-out text that gets to some of you guys, or is there some bigger issue I'm missing? Whatever the case it doesn't seem like something worth making a big issue over.
12/04/11, 22:01
@gojira was right.

This sounds a lot like the sky theme lol:

@Zero

It's not so much of an annoyance, more that it just seems arbitrary to me that "I just restarted the game in Hard Mode" is considered a spoiler, and yet something like "I just beat the 6th dungeon" is perfectly fine. A difficulty mode qualifies more as a spoiler than the game's dungeon count? Even on this page, we're discussing two items that, while unlocked early in the game, would be considered a spoiler for someone who was just starting the game. I know people were talking about the Bug Net a few pages back, and I thought about shading my posts because we were just censoring discussion about swimming but no one else was, so I figured that was fair game.

If we're going to say "Well, think of the people who haven't finished the game yet", don't you have to take the same approach and "think of the people who are only a few hours into the game?"

It just has the stink of "Hey, I know I'm not really spoiled by this, but I'll complain about it just because." It just seems very selective.

EDIT: But this will be my last post griping about spoilers, I've dragged it out enough. Back to just talking about the game.

@Simbabbad

What 'the fuck does it have to do with you'?

Two reasons why it has everything to do with you.

For starters, this quote specifically:

Simbabbad said:
People who enter this thread at this stage don't worry about reading about a hard mode.

That's just crap. Who are you to say what people are and are not worried about? This is *you* making a judgement on what *you* think is or is not a spoiler. There are going to be people who do not share that opinion and you should be considerate of that.

And secondly,in a more general sense, because *you're* the one constantly complaining about it, that's why. Every time a post of yours gets edited with spoiler tags, you take some great personal offense. Like Zero says it shouldn't be a big deal, but you insist on making it one for some reason.

Just let it go, there is no reason to be so snarky over it.

I beat the game today. I thought the final boss was really cool.

Also, GelatinousEncore, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears it.

@TheBigG753 Well in general unlockables are almost always considered spoilers. Dungeon count is a bit more of a gray area to me, but for the most part no one is going to be sad to learn there are more dungeons than they expected.

It's tough to find a stone cold rule that works for every case and makes sense to every person, but yeah... as a general rule, unlockables getting spoiler tags makes sense to me.
12/05/11, 03:14
Geesh, some are still whining about the spoiler stuff. Get over it already, plus it really has nothing to do with the actual topic, Zelda SS. I say, keep the post about the game and keep the whine to yourself.

@Shadowlink\

Snarky.....I like that word. It will have to be my word of the week. I'll have to remember to keep using it.

Anyway, loving Skyward Sword! Definatly one of the best Zelda games in awhile, just for the fact that it does many things differently. Game is definatly a 10 in my book. Nintendo just keeps outdoing themselves over and over. Just when you think they can't top the last game, BAM, another huge winner!

Spoilers from second playthrough (and for those of you who happened to explore the Academy at night)

LOL...who else thought those weird noises you heard when you wake up in your own bed at night...weren't the sounds of someone doing push-ups? Definitely a WTF moment.

Did some more side quests and mini-games tonight, left off at the point where I'm entering the Earth Temple. Still looking at taking my time through the game this time around. That Thrill Digger is a pretty challenging mini-game. It's entirely like Minesweeper, but with a lot more guessing. Got lucky to beat it on Intermediate after I don't know how many tries...had a 1/3 chance, and picked right. Anyone know if you get anything for beating it on Expert?
12/05/11, 07:08
@TheBigG753 From what I've seen, you get a Goddess Plume. Doesn't look like a Piece of Heart if that's what you're looking for.
12/05/11, 07:31
I blew like 500 rupees on that mini game once. I felt like a broke gambling degen.
