@TriforceBun

If my challenge room points are reset when I beat the game, though, I want to know!

I just perfected the Super Jump room. Absolutely fantastic game.

Did you guys know you can slightly direct your Fire Breath with the D-Pad? (the fire breath is the standard Fire move, the one you do by holding 1) I never realized that!

Also, Kirby throws his bombs just like Link in Skyward Sword.

Nah, you'll keep your progress and everything, it's nothing weird like that. It's more along the lines of additional challenging content to come.

Congrats on doing Hi-Jump! That was one of the toughest ones for me overall, if not the toughest.

Try angling the fire breath towards yourself (hold backwards) and see what happens!

I'll try that next time I play!

I gotta say, if there's one thing that truly stood out to me about this game is its personality. The game is just super charming. Like I said before it's simple, but it still has plenty of attention to detail. I don't remember the old Kirby games being on this level of cuteness (maybe they were and I forget, but still). Epic Yarn was definitely not as cute as this. There's Waddle Dees swinging around on ropes hanging from palm trees! It almost makes me want to not kill them. And those little dancing mushroom guys, I love them. (anybody know their official name?)

@GelatinousEncore

You can also press start and then right when you have an ability, to see all its moves.

@TriforceBun

The toughest for you, eh? So what, you got it on your 4th try?
11/12/11, 22:29
@Guillaume Yep, I knew that, but it didn't specify that you can angle the fire breath. Maybe I missed it.

Do you mean the cappy?
11/12/11, 22:43
Yes! I never knew what they're called, thanks.

@Guillaume

Hah! Kept me busy for over an hour for sure. Although that comes with a spoilery asterisk.

Speaking of which, I just completely 100%ed Return to Dream Land--did everything possible to do. And lo and behold, the game still gives you goodies! What a neat game, a class act all the way. It sure made the file select screen look spiffy and beefy.

I just beat World 6 but before that I loved the boss fight and World 5 and how it ended. Totally hilarious.

Also more games need dancing at the end of each stage.

IGN featured this in their The Five Most Disappointing Games of Fall 2011 article despite their 7.5. I'm not at all criticizing a game I haven't played but this is the thread for this sort of thing. Just posting to post.

Funny thing is that to me, those two statements contradict. They're excited about the classic Kirby on it's way, and then they hate that it's the same kind of Kirby.

These "5 most" lists are just to grab hits. They don't really have much to say otherwise. (Says the guy who programmed top 10 lists into our site...) But you're right, they contradict each other.

Also um

X-Men Destiny held a world of promise. Much vaunted developer Silicon Knights was working on the game

Ok, if this was 10 years ago maybe that would hold promise.
11/22/11, 23:47
And also, I just noticed that the ICON they choose for the article is Kirby. Of course.
11/22/11, 23:56
It's funny because their expectations were absolutely met, the bottom text contradicts the top. Stupid IGN.

Edit: it contradicts

@Simbabbad

The ones you unlock after beating the game?

Yikes, you've exposed me as the liar I am, I CAN resist them, it turns out. I didn't do those. Should I (are they fun)?

@DrFinkelstein

I always find it kindof ignorant when a reviewer lowers a score for a game cause it does nothing new. I mean, when you think about it Mario 3D Land really doesn't do anything new as far as gameplay goes.

And regardless of that, there are people playing this Kirby game that has never played a kirby game before. Like me! Not that I am playing this Kirby game, yet, but the only Kirby game I have ever played is Epic Yarn and I bought it cause of the graphics. So, yea, I never played a traditional Kirby game.

I think when any game is reviewed, it should be reviewed on it's own merits and not be compared at all to any of it's predesesors. Sure, if the reviewer wants to mention it in the review, thats fine. Cause maybe even a die hard Kirby fan doesn't even want any major changes. As time goes on, it seems I hate reviewers more and more.

A game should be reviewed or anything should be reviewed for what it is and not based on what came before it.

@gamewizard65
I think it's a fair criticism to make, it's entirely possible for a game to fail to impress because it's just so similar to something you've played before (though my problem with IGN is that they were looking forward to more of the same and when they got what they wanted, it was 'meh'). Nintendo usually innovates with their main franchises, but there will always be people who say, for example, that Galaxy 2 was too much like Galaxy, or Metroid Prime 2 was too much like Metroid Prime. But then Nintendo goes out and makes Other M, and people complain that it's too radical of a change. I think you need a good balance of old and new to hook everyone, and Super Mario 3D Land does that. I can't say the gameplay is similar to anything I've played before, it's definitely a mash up of Galaxy and NSMB styles. Plus, there are some new elements (suits, 3D, etc) that differentiate it further.
An immediate example is Epic Yarn, which wowed reviewers and gamers alike because it's really out of left field. Kirby never ever had gameplay or a style such as that. Kirby Mass Attack was also praised in its IGN review for being unique and creative.

Anyways, I haven't played a "traditional" Kirby since I downloaded Super Star on the VC, and while it was good I have some issues with it. I'm looking forward to playing Return to Dreamland at some point.

@Simbabbad

I think Kirby games in general have usually leaned on the easy side (with a few exceptions, generally the non-traditional games). Some extra challenge would be nice but Kirby being OP seems to be part of his MO. RtDL actually does deliver some strong replay though, I was impressed by the extra odds and ends that were tucked away. I'm interested to hear your thoughts about the rest of the game.

Hey, I've been playing this game today!

I just made it to the post-pop star levels as well (my excuse: getting distracted by Mario, Rayman and Zelda, and the challenge rooms in Kirby...).

I'll tell you what: I was almost bummed I hadn't beaten the game. The pop-star main levels are really were a let down, I completely agree. But already at 6-1 and 6-2 the level design has gotten a whole lot more clever. Starting to enjoy the main quest...
12/04/11, 04:03
And done. A bit disappointed that the post pop star stuff was less than 50% of the game.

So as far as the post-game content goes, other than having half the health, and perhaps tougher dark world challenges, what changes in the second quest? What I loved about Hard difficulty in Kirby's Dreamland was that the more aggressive enemies really changed up how you played through the levels, but they seem to act the same, here.
