casper884 said:So I received this wonderful gem on Saturday. There was no way in hell I was going to import through retailers (it was either pay more, or wait more), so I had one of my buddies from the UK pick up a copy and mail it to me. It pays to have friends in different areas of the world.
Anyway, I think I really am turning into a casual gamer because this game is kind of intimidating. It's not so much the world in and of itself, but the combination of the scope of the world + all the side quests and shit is just too overwhelming, and it makes me not want to play it. I know I can ignore them, but I'm a bit OCD, and there's the affinity system, which I want to use to its fullest potential. Also, the battle system is very deep (even before the hour mark, you're introduced to things like aggro and break/topple/daze), and I'm lovin' the concept of ether gems, which is basically like materia from FF7.
One thing that has been a big help in this game is the streamlining of pretty much everything. Save wherever you want, follow the arrow for the next story point, follow the icon for story quests, gain experience by exploring, story notes, tutorials at your finger tips, etc. Everything is done as painlessly as possible, but even so, the game is just so massive that it can be off-putting. To contrast, I also nabbed Bit.Trip Complete over this week-end (SAGA was nowhere to be found) and I didn't even want to put it down. Like I said, I think I really am becoming a casual player. See, i dont need to read stuff like this dammit :p Would love t get this game but dont know how to go about it or modding my Wii |

@GuillaumeOh, I'm sure I can play it casually, and all of the streamlining has allowed it to be conducive to that style of play, but it doesn't change the feel of the game, and I just feel too much of a sense of obligation, and that is hard to deal with in a game like this. I start it up, and think, yeah, I really don't feel like playing something this big. It's not a knock on the game, it's just an observation that my tastes as a gamer have shifted. I still like games like that, but I have to really be in a hardcore mood to play them. When I popped in Bit.Trip Complete, I immediately felt at home, and could potentially play a longer session of that game than Xenoblade. |
