In case you don't know, it is reviewing very, very well. I've read many reviews calling it the best JRPG of the generation, and one even called it the best JRPG since the 16-bit era.

Just curious to know how badly people here want it.

Well that's technically true, but it's also meaningless in this discussion, because very few games release without any hype. Following this logic to the natural end we can't really look at scores for any game and get excited, because maybe it's just the hype hype hype speaking. So we would have to just throw out everyone's impressions and go into every game blindly.

...which a lot of people would agree with. But I don't have the time to play every game on the market, so I look at other's impressions. And I personally think that, for the most part, games end up scored what they deserve in the end, give or take a few points.

@Simbabbad

Yeah... I read the replies and I honestly have no idea why we're bothering arguing how we may or may not enjoy things on life based on other people's opinions. Okay? Why is this discussion still going on?

I don't think anything -JKR- said was all that bad. I agree with a lot of it actually, and I'm a HUUUGE RPG fan.

So much so, that I'm usually the only guy getting RPGs at my local Gamestop. They get one or two copies in of a game, but sell tons of Dance stuff. Its the world we live in. But yeah, "Forbidden Fruit" and all of that stuff definitely has a ton of merit. You can't say that I'm pooping on people or the game because I WANT the game, and I want people to have it. I wanted it when it was Monado. "Sweet! An RPG by Nintendo?" Enough for me.

I can't believe you guys DON'T think that part of the world/country has been influenced into wanting this stuff. Did everybody who imported this time import before? Thats probably something. Has anyone considered importing this game that hadn't considered importing anything else?

As for -JKR-, theres also another thing, quite the opposite of the New York Times thing. Its the attitude that you want NOTHING to do with the newest thing, or whatever, and its not all that rare. For example, I flatly REFUSE to ever get a Facebook page. Ever. I've also never shopped at the Gap. Or Abercrombie & Fitch. Yes, it can be done.

Theres nothing wrong with his stance, I think you guys got a little hot under the collar, maybe because its a sore subject? Heck, I snapped at ShadowLink earlier in this thread (though most of it was hyperbole / tongue in cheek) so its definitely common.

I think we'll eventually get these games at this point. I don't think soon, no, but sometime. Wii U? Maybe.

Lay off -JKR- a little bit guys. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. This thread wasn't "Xenoblade Fans Only!"

And his blanket statement with the Fruit holds some water.
You may be infected and not even know it!

Yes, it is absolutely saying something; it's saying that this game is available in English when a lot of other import games aren't. That's what it's saying.

I've always really, really, really wanted to play Xenoblade. I wasn't as vocal about it (but I still was vocal) because until E3 I thought we were getting it. The only reason I'm more vocal now is because of frustration, but my level of interest is the same.

I never said it was for Xenoblade fans only. I was telling someone who's said in other threads "God, can we please not talk about Op Rainfall here!?" that he didn't have to visit the thread. And to stop being obnoxious.

@Guillaume

I guess thats true. I think a lot of us wanted to play Xenoblade, but not all of us. I think thats what -JKR- is saying, too.

I'm sick of hearing about Rainfall myself, too. 0-for-1, Nintendo fans..

That's fine, but this IS a Xenoblade thread. And really, what else is there to talk about on the Wii right now? Like half of the upcoming Wii games that are worth talking about are Rainfall games.

@gamewizard65 If this game doesn't come to the US I'm almost definitely going to hack/import, as are many others, so we can probably work that stuff out together.

I'll go out on a limb and admit that I'm more interested in the game because it isn't coming to North America. But I don't see any shame in saying that and I doubt it's tied to Forbidden Fruit or whatever.

Look, if the wheels on the NoA cart weren't already squeaky, there'd be no need to grease them. That is, in a perfect world, games like Xenoblade would come to America and there wouldn't be a need for any discussion about it. If that were the case, I may have elected to never play Xenoblade simply because I'm not that big on JRPGs. I don't hate them, but I usually find them to be way too long.

But, then again, maybe I would've elected to play Xenoblade. It looks pretty cool and it's something you don't see on the Wii very often. Maybe I'd have gone for it.

Point is, I want to be able to make that choice myself, not have NoA make it for me with unnecessarily conservative localization practices. If picking up Xenoblade and giving it a whirl makes way for other games to be released in the US - games that I feel should've been released from the start - then I'm willing to pick it up. I'm particularly interested in Pandora's Tower and, until that gets a release date, I'm willing to try out either Xenoblade or The Last Story (though probably not both) if it helps ensure the release of the game I'm more interested in.

Does that mean I leave myself open to be played like a chump by NoA, purchasing a game I might not have picked up otherwise? Sure. But... you know, I think I'll just leave myself open to that criticism if it means I get a few extra games that I might enjoy. Ultimately, you know, that's my decision.

@Zero

Lets talk about old games..

..like Arc Rise Fantasia, baybeeee!

The last great RPG on Wii since Tales of Symphonia!! In stores now!!
08/24/11, 00:24
@Mr_Mustache

Not *my* store.

Oh the cruel irony .
08/24/11, 00:59
@Mr_Mustache

How's the exploration in ARF? Is it a focus at all?

What about random encounters?
08/24/11, 01:01
@Shadowlink Yeah but you got the better game. And I'm not just saying that to make Mustache mad. That's just an added bonus.
08/24/11, 01:02
@Shadowlink

You guys didn't get Arc Rise Fantasia? Weird, sorry..

@Guillaume

Yeah, sure, I definitely think that exploration is rewarded. I didn't play through the entire game, but I distinctly recall finding treasures and stuff. The Bestiary / Side Quest were the most exciting optional aspects of the game for me. The main story is alright (as it usually is in most games), but its the side stuff that sets a game apart, for me anyways.

No random encounters. Have you played Tales of Symphonia / Chrono Trigger? They're similar to those. You walk around the map and you can see the guys (each guy represents a group of enemies). Depending on how you meet them will determine how the battle starts. You can get attacked from behind, or you can attack them from behind, or straight up head to head. You'll have an advantage or be in the hole depending on what happens. I like it MUCH better than random invisible encounters; if you want to run past everybody, you can..but they'll chase you down! Some are fast, some not so much.

I'm convincing myself to play this again. My words -- so powerful! (I'll fire it up again in a month)

@Zero

I'm pretty sure I've never been mad here. I'm the most easygoing guy in the history of everything.

I don't know about that.

@Zero

HA! Man, you missed an awesome NYC trip.

The Vault holds many secrets.
08/24/11, 01:43
Is there any doubt that I was the most easygoing guy at the NYC meet-up?

You guys barely noticed I was there!
08/24/11, 01:45
@Guillaume

You were pretty easygoing, yes. But you said that you were more shy than anything though.
We should've done karaoke on Day 1 and got all of those jitters out of the way.

Anand and I are ready -- out of the box -- in any situation. I think a few of you had to acclimate to the waters first.
Jargs, for instance, was a lot quieter than I thought he'd be, haha. Maybe he was still warming up?
(No, I'm not singling out Jargon)
08/24/11, 01:47
@Mr_Mustache

But you guys had the advantage of knowing each other already! It's harder for an outsider to break in an already cohesive group (of two).
08/24/11, 01:53
I'm like uber shy in person. When I met Grant and Dr. Fink the conversation was like 90% them. And when I met Ploot I felt kind of bad at first since between us and the two ladies being there I wasn't talking much, I think we talked more the second time since we had some alone time. Hmm, that sounded dirty.

I get this weird sense that people are expecting "more" since I'm like the site leader of a sort. And then in person I'm just this super shy, passive dude.
