I don't think anything -JKR- said was all that bad. I agree with a lot of it actually, and I'm a HUUUGE RPG fan.
So much so, that I'm usually the only guy getting RPGs at my local Gamestop. They get one or two copies in of a game, but sell tons of Dance stuff. Its the world we live in. But yeah, "Forbidden Fruit" and all of that stuff definitely has a ton of merit. You can't say that I'm pooping on people or the game because I WANT the game, and I want people to have it. I wanted it when it was Monado. "Sweet! An RPG by Nintendo?" Enough for me.
I can't believe you guys DON'T think that part of the world/country has been influenced into wanting this stuff. Did everybody who imported this time import before? Thats probably something. Has anyone considered importing this game that hadn't considered importing anything else?
As for -JKR-, theres also another thing, quite the opposite of the New York Times thing. Its the attitude that you want NOTHING to do with the newest thing, or whatever, and its not all that rare. For example, I flatly REFUSE to ever get a Facebook page. Ever. I've also never shopped at the Gap. Or Abercrombie & Fitch. Yes, it can be done.
Theres nothing wrong with his stance, I think you guys got a little hot under the collar, maybe because its a sore subject? Heck, I snapped at ShadowLink earlier in this thread (though most of it was hyperbole / tongue in cheek) so its definitely common.
I think we'll eventually get these games at this point. I don't think soon, no, but sometime. Wii U? Maybe.
Lay off -JKR- a little bit guys. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. This thread wasn't "Xenoblade Fans Only!"
And his blanket statement with the Fruit holds some water. You may be infected and not even know it! |

I'll go out on a limb and admit that I'm more interested in the game because it isn't coming to North America. But I don't see any shame in saying that and I doubt it's tied to Forbidden Fruit or whatever.
Look, if the wheels on the NoA cart weren't already squeaky, there'd be no need to grease them. That is, in a perfect world, games like Xenoblade would come to America and there wouldn't be a need for any discussion about it. If that were the case, I may have elected to never play Xenoblade simply because I'm not that big on JRPGs. I don't hate them, but I usually find them to be way too long.
But, then again, maybe I would've elected to play Xenoblade. It looks pretty cool and it's something you don't see on the Wii very often. Maybe I'd have gone for it.
Point is, I want to be able to make that choice myself, not have NoA make it for me with unnecessarily conservative localization practices. If picking up Xenoblade and giving it a whirl makes way for other games to be released in the US - games that I feel should've been released from the start - then I'm willing to pick it up. I'm particularly interested in Pandora's Tower and, until that gets a release date, I'm willing to try out either Xenoblade or The Last Story (though probably not both) if it helps ensure the release of the game I'm more interested in.
Does that mean I leave myself open to be played like a chump by NoA, purchasing a game I might not have picked up otherwise? Sure. But... you know, I think I'll just leave myself open to that criticism if it means I get a few extra games that I might enjoy. Ultimately, you know, that's my decision. |

@ShadowlinkYou guys didn't get Arc Rise Fantasia? Weird, sorry.. @GuillaumeYeah, sure, I definitely think that exploration is rewarded. I didn't play through the entire game, but I distinctly recall finding treasures and stuff. The Bestiary / Side Quest were the most exciting optional aspects of the game for me. The main story is alright (as it usually is in most games), but its the side stuff that sets a game apart, for me anyways. No random encounters. Have you played Tales of Symphonia / Chrono Trigger? They're similar to those. You walk around the map and you can see the guys (each guy represents a group of enemies). Depending on how you meet them will determine how the battle starts. You can get attacked from behind, or you can attack them from behind, or straight up head to head. You'll have an advantage or be in the hole depending on what happens. I like it MUCH better than random invisible encounters; if you want to run past everybody, you can..but they'll chase you down! Some are fast, some not so much. I'm convincing myself to play this again. My words -- so powerful! (I'll fire it up again in a month) @ZeroI'm pretty sure I've never been mad here. I'm the most easygoing guy in the history of everything. |
