Super Street Fighter IV 3D (Nintendo 3DS) Review (9.0)  by
So, it's come to my attention that several of us regular Nintendo fans have either lapsed in their experience with the Street Fighter series, or are just now checking it out on 3DS. In an effort to avoid getting 'PWNED' (do the kids still say that?) online, I'm offering a sort of "Boot Camp" for the 3D Edition of SUPER Street Fighter IV.

What I'm proposing to do is to sort of "train" those that aren't so good (yet) in friendly, non-competitive online matches. I mean sure, playing against the computer is all well and good. And that's how many of us "vets" grew up playing back in the day. But nothing quite matches a real, human, thinking opponent. Computer AI will eventually fall back on patterns that can be easily recognized by the player, and thus can become too easy. Human matches don't do that - the really good players learn to adapt and change their strategy as the fight goes on.

So, hopefully I will be able to help those that need that kind of assistance and experience, without just immediately striking them down with ridiculous combos that not only deter further play, but also don't teach the player anything. Let's trade Friend Codes (I've got mine listed on the User Database, as well as in the 3DS thread) and we can practice combos, special moves, Super moves, Ultra Moves, reversals, learn to anticipate what moves may come, etc.

If anyone's interested, post here and let me know. I'll leave it as an open invitation for the better part of tomorrow. I'm going to bed now, but I'll check this tomorrow afternoon/evening and if the interest is there, we'll do some practicing.

Any other Street Fighter vets that wanna help out (Dynablade!), please feel free to do so! I would appreciate the help with teaching, as I'm sure anyone else who wants to learn.

The Negative World Street Fighter Dojo is open!

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@Zero

Yeah, we are. I got out of the lobby because I didn't see anyone join. I've re-opened it.

Aurgh, so, SO sorry about all that. That was all me. Despite the fact that my wife and I put the baby down for the night, she kept getting up and crying her little head off. Those times when I was just standing still? That was me trying to get the kid to settle down. The other half of the time was me trying to play the game while holding a screaming baby in my arms. Heh... didn't work out so well.

Eh... maybe I'll have to hold off on playing games online until my new daughter is on a solid schedule of going to bed at night. Then I wouldn't have these interruptions. *sigh* The perils of parenthood...!

Again, terribly sorry about the non-fighting and inconsistent match-ups. I hate to be "that guy" - the one that is unreliable when playing games online. I just wasn't anticipating my daughter to be such a handful this evening.

Hopefully Zero will be a better match-up for you.

@GameDadGrant

It's totally cool, man!! You gotta do what you gotta do. Trust me, I remember when I had to go through the same thing (several times over), so I understand exactly what you're going through. Hopefully next time we play, the baby will be sound asleep.
04/13/11, 06:35
Thanks for the understanding, it's appreciated.

And yeah, next time I'll be sure the baby won't be a distraction. Until then... cheers!

"These fighters are evenly matched" WTF fight was that announcer watching?!

I don't think I can play Casper again unless he uses someone besides Bison.

PS. Had to leave, girlfriend wants to Skype.

GG's, zero! I wish the lag wasn't so bad. I have a pretty bad connection over here, so it's probably my fault.

EDIT:

I guess I should start working on other characters. I don't want people avoiding matches with me because I use the same person.

Well... I'm not going to tell you what to do. It's just that generally if I'm dominating someone in a multiplayer game, I pick a character/etc. I'm not as good with and that evens things out a tad bit.

Anyway, how do you get the title next to your name?!

/EDIT I ask 2 seconds before realizing you just touch the screen.

@Zero

Oh, I see. Yeah, perhaps that was a bit inconsiderate of me. I'm the opposite though. When I first started playing SSFIV3D, I got dominated by this one dude's Akuma (10000+BP) and when he changed to one of his '2nd tier' characters, I didn't really like that. I wanted to continue playing his best so that I could learn how to adapt to his techniques. Everyone's different though, and not everyone prefers those kind of aggressive tactics, so that was an oversight on my part.

Also, it took me the LONGEST to figure out how people were changing their titles. Then I just touched it...lol.

So I'm pretty sure Zero and I squared off last night. We split (if you can call that second match thrashing you gave me with Cody fair) two matches, me winning with Chin Lu and Zero killing me with Cody.

Fun stuff! Note to self: I suck with Cody, especially when it's against Cody.
04/13/11, 16:06
@casper884 Well, I kind of see what you mean, but on the other hand I'd still be learning while only mostly getting my ass handed to me with someone you're not quite as good with. I dunno, I don't expect anyone to play any way other than the way they want to, and I certainly don't expect anyone to handicap things to the point where it is "equal" when they're a lot better than me, but on my end of things it's just a bit more fun when I feel like I might at least have some chance of winning, eventually...

@ludist210 Um... when last night?! I don't think that was me bro. I played a few random matches last night but I don't remember playing against Chun-Li or using Cody. My memory is notoriously bad, so I'm not for sure on this... but I 99% don't think that was me. Hmm, if it does pair up two "friends" randomly, would it even let them know?

@Zero

Is your username Zero? Because I played two matches with a dude named Zero, and I think you were online...around 10:30 p.m. CST?
04/14/11, 00:53
I should be able to jump online in a while, hopefully around 11 PM CST. I will update the "Now Online" thread then.

I just need some practice, I played some online random matches and got totally destroyed.

I think... I could use some improvement.

@ludist210 Yeah my username is Zero. And I did play a few matches with someone at night. But I sure as heck don't remember picking Cody, I never pick Cody! I usually use Sakura and Cammie.
04/14/11, 06:18
@Zero

Ah okay. I fought Juri and Cody, then the other "Zero" bailed. We split. I fought online again last night against a Guile that constantly spammed Sonic Booms. I love/hate button mapping in this game.
04/14/11, 16:08
I'll be online again tonight for some more practice, around 11 PM CST!
04/15/11, 06:25
I'll be playing some Street Fighter soon if any interested parties would like to partake. I still need the practice!

EDIT: Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm getting better. I still don't have a character that I feel comfortable with. What's so difficult also is that even though I learn some cool combos in the Challenge mode, every character has unique combos and I have no way of remembering them all. I've seen some crazy strategies in use by the random online matches I've tried so far, but I have also run into beginners as well.

I hope I can play with some of you guys later on! I see some of you playing Street Fighter sometimes but there's no one in the friend lobby.

Ok... this question is in this thread because I seem to notice it when I'm playing SSFIV.. The yellow blinking light..you know..the one that tells you if someone (a friend) is online - Does it blink when someone tries to set up a friend match or does it blink simply because they booted into the game. Everytime I see that yellow light I quit what I'm doing and log into the Internet Matches and go for 'friends' and end up dissapointed.

Maybe we should set up some kind of houserule. Like.. if you are even semi intrested in playing a fellow NW player, then go to the Internet Match/Friend as soon as you see a blinking light. Otherwise.. maybe you should turn the Wireless thing off?

No..that's kinda stupid and selfish maybe... Any other ideas??

The orange LED indicates whether a friend from your 3DS friend list is online. I don't think it has the added benefit of telling you whether they are playing a particular game online (just because you're playing that game).

EDIT: I don't have any good ideas. Without a friend invite system within the game, I am having to rely solely on using this thread or the "I'm online" thread to find matches with you guys.

Just started practicing a bit more today with some additional characters. There's just so many to pick from!

Guys, I'm online! I have yet to play against anyone else here who owns the game. I've just been unlucky I suppose.
04/17/11, 02:48
Hey guys, let me know if any of you ever want to play. I've been going online for the past 4 days and haven't been able to catch any of you for a match.

Does anyone plan to play at some later date?

@Smerd Hey, that's cool that you've gone to trouble of looking for the friend matches every time you saw the orange light. But sadly I don't think the game is setup in any form or fashion to make it easy to play your friends. You create a lobby and wait for a friend to show up.

So, to sum up:

Where is everybody... ludist, Zero, GameDadGrant, casper, ploot, dlbman, kgtennispro, Kal-El, ShadowLink_89, warerare... anyone? When would be a good time?
