@Smerd

That is QUITE the sign.

And Bobby Valentine is the skipper for Boston now. Terry Francona left as he was losing the lockerroom, and now nobody is buying into Valentine's deal, and he feels his coaches are insubordinate, or something. Its fantastic.

@Mr_Mustache
Valentine was fired today.

@Earendil
That is hilarious.

You must be excited for tonight, Rob.

I forget what cheering during the playoffs feels like.
10/05/12, 13:14
So who do you guys think had the best and worst season?

For worst, I'd probably say the Red Sox as a franchise are probably fuming with rage. 3rd straight season without a playoffs berth and a last place finish. That and Bobby "Mr. Mustache" Valentine (no relation to our venerable Mr_Mustache) is gone for pretty much the same reason Francona was fired. Yeah other teams had worse records but the Red Sox in their never ending chase of the Yankees will probably flail about next season on the free agent market hoping to fix whatever is wrong with the franchise.

For best, definitely the Nationals. Since I've mostly only known them as one of the longer struggling franchises and despite them being in the NL East I gotta feel good for a franchise to finally break through whatever barrier that was keeping them from success. Of course if push comes to shove and they play the Braves in the NLCS, I hope they crash and burn. Hard.

I've love to say the Braves were screwed by the umps but yeah, 3 errors and 4 unearned runs is pretty much screwing yourself.
10/06/12, 07:56
I was kinda hoping we were going to play Texas...I think we are going to have a lot more trouble dealing w/ Baltimore. We'll see...good luck O's! Should be a good series.
10/06/12, 08:45
@TheBigG753

It will be..very interesting. I feel like the O's have an edge somehow..but the New York bats have been NUTS lately. NOW..is that just because they're GOOD, or is it because of who they've played as of late? Boston is horrific.

I think it makes for a great story regardless; Baltimore and New York were neck and neck down the stretch, each team needing another team to do their dirty work for them. Of course, that didn't happen as they finished just one game back...but now they can finally go head to head. Its like when Darth Vader fights Obi Wan Kenobi..though I can't figure out who is who.

If New York is Darth Vader, the evil dude, he would've left "the learner," returning as "the master." Obi Wan appropriately calls him "only a master of evil," which is, of course, the Yankees..but Obi Wan totally jobbed out then, and the O's need to win NOW. So yeah, I guess that doesn't work.

Anyway, its like some other battle at the end of some movie. Gloves off, go get it.

(And its EXTREMELY nice to see Baltimore getting "actual Postseason" instead of the "fake Postseason" of the Wild Card Game. ONE game against Texas? My GOD, who wants to sign up for that??)
10/06/12, 12:44
@Mr_Mustache

Funny enough, they would have had to play that game against Texas anyways under the old rules. It would have been game 163, because both teams had the same number of wins.

I still don't understand why Baltimore is hosting the first game of the series? Has that been explained why?
10/06/12, 17:12
@Mr_Mustache

It's mostly so an extra team can hang a banner for "making the playoffs".

Can Baltimore finally get redemption for this (expect to see this highlight repeated about a million times this week)?

@TheOldManFromZelda

They are changing it back to 2-2-1 next year. I think the reason it's 2-3 this year was because of scheduling issues with the one-game playoff, and MLB doesn't want the World Series stretching into November. So eliminating the extra travel day was what they decided to do. I believe they are starting the season earlier next year, so this won't be an issue.
10/06/12, 18:02
what the fuck @ that infield fly call. WOW.
10/06/12, 18:23
@anon_mastermind

Yeah it was bullshit but the Braves did themselves no favors.

Really sucks to. What a terrible way to end Chipper's career.
10/07/12, 00:25
@TheBigG753

Look at that asshole. I wonder what he's doing right now.. *pounds fist*

@TheOldManFromZelda

Gotta love November Baseball. Wouldn't that be something? It'd be like that one time they had to cancel NASCAR Qualifying @ Atlanta because of Snow. SNOW. IN ATLANTA.

@anon_mastermind

Yeah, that was pretty goofy. Big Joe said that the same type of call happened in a Cubs game back in May though, almost identical, so there was precedent. And like Chris said, its not like that cost them the game. I mean, it COULD have cost them the game, but very tough to argue with 3 (three!!!) Errors.

@chrisbg99

I thought Chipper's final AB was pretty cool. Exploding bat and a bang-bang play at 1st. Pretty cool, no?
10/07/12, 02:41
I didn't get to watch or listen to the game. Wasn't even on my ESPN Radio station. And I don't know if I could bring myself to watch a recap.
10/07/12, 02:51
3-0 Reds in the 4th. :D
10/07/12, 06:12
Reds take the first game in the series.
