I think we just lost #4

Hey, why didn't anyone get excited about basketball ending? Huzzah.

And for our Tennis fans, Wimbledon is this week. Theres something.

@legoman1326

Really? Thats a lot.. What are they doing?
Are bullpen guys being forced to fill the roles? Are they calling up stinkies?
06/27/12, 00:19
They've been juggling pitchers in the bulpen since interleague started so we've had 3 or 4 guys who can go a few innings, one of them (Aaron Laffey) started tonight. Other then that the only sure starters for us now are Romero and Cecil, after that it's a question mark, but Alverez (The guy who got pulled yesterday) might make his next start. Drebeck's the only one out for the season right now with tommy john surgury, other 2 are just on the 15 day DL for now.

An amusing video- Basically making fun of the horrible selection process for Rugby League State of Origin.

Any college football fans in the house? What do you guys think of them finally adopting a playoff model (albeit, a limited one).

I've been clamoring for it for years, and while I'd have taken it a step further, I'm pleased that we are getting something better at all. Definitely a big step in the right direction.
06/27/12, 14:58
@TheBigG753

I'm not a college football fan (beyond the videogame), but I'm interested in hearing about this for sure. Can you clue is in? What did they finally settle on?
06/28/12, 00:05
@Mr_Mustache

Starting with the 2014 season, there's going to be a "Final Four", rather than using the BCS formula to just select the top 2. There's going to be a selection committee that chooses the four teams, so theoretically more teams will be in the discussion.
06/28/12, 03:40
@TheBigG753

Hmmm.. Final Four. That sounds..don't you feel that underappreciated teams will get gypped? Boise St is a team that a lot of people want to see do well, but they aren't of a high caliber. I can't see them in a Final Four talk EVER, regardless of their record. They'd almost NEED to be undefeated, and the other teams would have to have like two losses apiece. And aren't the defending Champs ALMOST a shoo in? They gotta defend, ya know? That really breaks it down to 3 teams, and you've got Big 10, SEC, Pac 10, Big XII, etc. Those four conferences alone are huge, and I didn't even mention the ACC. I really have no idea how this is going to work without someone (everyone) getting PO'd.

I CAN see, however, a Sweet 16 style tourney of the Top 16 ranked teams. Maybe the Top #10, and then Conference Champs or some sort of Wild Card team. That'd extend their season by a few games, but I don't know how there could be complaints about teams getting screwed, unless they're ranked where they shouldn't be and they get a bad matchup. Is anyone in sports ever truly happy?
06/28/12, 03:47
I'd obviously rather see it grow to 8.

At the same time, doubling the number of teams that get in to 4 will give more teams an opportunity. It's definitely not as far as I'd like to see it go, but in college football, things move incredibly slow because the bowl lobby has a ton of influence.

The best part about it, though, is that (hopefully) rational minds will actually deliberate and try and select the best four teams, rather than leaving it up to some arcane system based on computer formulas and the polls, which are glorified popularity contests.
06/28/12, 03:56
@TheBigG753

Oh, no doubt, they totally are. Most of my experience comes with the game, and I know its not a perfect deal, but seeing Notre Dame up there EVERY YEAR regardless of their record gets a little old. They were barely the best Independent team in our 1st season!
06/28/12, 04:05
The good thing about Notre Dame in real life, though, is that while they usually start high in the polls, they haven't finished near the top in quite some time.

MLB All-Star Voting ends tonight. Did anyone else get in there? Got about an hour..

@legoman1326

Did someone else get hurt? Eesh.

--Man, I gotta update all of this stuffffff.
07/20/12, 00:51
Any Olympic nerds here? I love when they come around every couple of years and I tend to watch way too many hours of the stuff. I watched a decent amount of the trials and am looking forward to a bunch of events. I had initially planned on trying to get to London for the games, but that didn't work out, though we (me, wife and kid) did get out there last year and had a blast.
