So.... I hope Chase Utley gets his leg broken. Or at least beaned high. That slide was dirty and done with intent to injure. And what happened to the "neighborhood" rule?!? Tejada was 2 inches from touching the base. In the history of baseball, they've always called the runner out when the guy is trying to turn a double play.

They decided that the bad throw is what pulled him off the bag, thus negating the "neighborhood" rule. The play needs to be clean to be in effect. I'd hate for baseball to try to get rid of breaking up double plays, but runners absolutely have to start sliding before getting to the bag.

It's all good. The Mets delivered a pounding last night, and I hope they can close out the series tonight. A decisive win makes the play all but forgotten about.

So.... that Blue Jays game was pretty bonkers yesterday. I don't think I've ever seen a baseball game quite like that.

Yeah really. I don't care for the Blue Jays much, but I care for them a lot less after the display of their fans.

Someone on the radio suggested that if fans didn't stop that Toronto should forfeit the game. I don't think that would have been unreasonable.

Basically, it all stemmed from an obscure baseball rule.

Texas had a runner on third. The catcher, after catching a pitch, went to throw it back to the pitcher. It hit the batter in the box, and went down the third base line.

Fair ball. Runner from third scored before anyone figured out what was going on, and Texas leads by one.

Toronto fans go apeshit, 18 minute delay for debris on the field.

Bottom of the same inning, Texas commits 3 errors in a row, Toronto ties the game. Then Bautista hits a 3 run home run, and the building is shaking so much it might implode. He demolished it to left field, did an awesome bat flip. Words were exchanged, benches clear a few times.

The 7th inning took roughly 53 minutes to play. It was pretty amazing.

Sounds like it! Wow, sorry I missed it. Shame about the debris thing, but that sounds like a pretty ridiculous situation to be honest. I know how I'd feel if I were there and cheering on the Jays.

Anyways, that is a mighty obscure rule. Part of the reason why I love baseball is all those obscure rules that you might never see more than once in a lifetime.
