Golden Sun: Dark Dawn on the DS
8.28/10 from 8 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Golden Sun: Dark Dawn on the DS!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Me and one of my buddies have just been listening to some of our favourite Golden Sun soundtrack songs and I'm so fucking pumped right now. This game is easily my most wanted game of the year since Nintendo first revealed it last E3. So I thought I'd post a few of these songs to get things rolling.

*sighs*

Nostalgia is punching me so hard in the face right now. Next week is too far away.

Also, a collection of reviews so far
:

GamesRadar - 8.0
Nintendo Power - 8.0
IGN - 7.5
GamePro - 3.5/5
Famitsu - 9/8/8/8
ONM - 92%
GameTrailers - 8.5
JoyStiq 4/5
Nintendo Life - 8
1up - B
Kotaku 4/5

The rundown so far: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is a great game especially for Golden Sun fans. However, the main complaint is that the game is much easier than the previous titles and this is actually quite disappointing.

I know there was a lot of bitching about IGN's review, and I personally don't hold much weight with it anyway. Famitsu though, they always seem to rate how I expect for games. A 9/8/8/8 is just fine by me. I can't wait for this game. If it weren't for DKCR and GEWii, I might actually remember this was coming out. I mean, don't get me wrong, Golden Sun is probably my favorite RPG series, my favorite JRPG for sure, but that release date just keeps ticking and I don't realize it. That's a good thing.

Only downside is that I intentionally picked it up from Gamestop to avoid the wait of shipping. And well, that could prove stupid. I hope they get the game in on time. They best have that on Tuesday, mother lickas.

BTW; I love that music. It's one of the fondest memories of the game. Nice addition to this post. I need to add some more to the thread. Though I'll go the "youtube covers" route.

Yeah, the Best Buy i pre-ordered it from is getting it on Tuesday (30th) instead of the Monday as well. I don't really mind the 1 day delay since I have to go in to pick up Epic Mickey as well on Tuesday.

Also, there hasn't been that much media for Dark Dawn and I'm thankful for that. Aside from the basics of the plot, I know anything and have seen nothing. Going into this with a clean slate.

Oh, I forgot it was a Monday release, lol. I guess Tuesday still stands. I'm sure had I bought it off Amazon they'd have shipped it for me to receive it by Monday but oh well. As long as I get it before Wednesday. I still need to beat Chrono Trigger though... but it will gladly wait if need be.

I know so little about the game too. Media blackout, though not by choice, lol. All I know is my reaction when I saw this pop up two E3's ago. My mind was blown. I can't wait for it to finally arrive. Such fond memories of the original two.

Yeah, right now I'm playing through the last of the Phoenix Wright games. I'm on the final case right now, so hopefully I should be done well before Tuesday.

BTW, that piano piece was really done. I'm such a sucker for piano music.

Yeah, it's fantastic. I should play this youtube video as I open my copy of the game next week. What an epic way to start the journey, lol.

God that MUSIC. I hope the soundtrack in the third game is as good.

What part are they saying is easier? The puzzles or the battles?
11/24/10, 09:40
The battles.

According to the reviews, there's very little level grinding to be done, and in comparison to the last two, it's easily the easiest game in the series.

11/24/10, 09:43
Ah that's not too bad then. When it comes to RPG's, I'm of the opinion that (outside of secret bonus areas), extra grinding should not be required. You should be able to deal with enemies as you encounter them and not need to stop your quest whilst you "train up".

Of course if enemies are at even lower levels than that, it's a little dissapointing. And Bosses should always be a challenge too.

But for the most part, as long as the puzzles, exploration & story are of the same calibre as the first two games, I'll be more than happy.

Sign me up for the hype. I've got my pre-order all set and paid off. Now I just gotta wait for the game to arrive.

@Shadowlink

So will I. But sometimes a game being too easy can take away from the experience. *looks at Twilight Princess*

ONM - 92%. Nice.

I want to be more hyped, but I haven't even finished Dragon Quest IX and I don't think I will before 3DS hits at this rate, at which point I may never find time to squeeze in another DS RPG. And then, Lufia just released... Golden Sun or Lufia? Tough choice.

Scores are good enough for me to feel confident I'll like the game though I love the first two so I never expected not to like this one.

@Zero

*Slaps Zero*

How is that even a choice? Golden Sun is one of the finest RPG series and my personal favourite.

I keep forgetting I'm buying this in the store and not via the mail and Amazon. I need to make some calls Monday and see if they'll have it. If not, I gotta remember for Tuesday.

Just two-three days folks!!!
11/28/10, 05:26
Well, I hope to snag this for Christmas with money donated to me by others. I don't expect them to remember the game, so they just give me Gamestop gift cards.

I'm kind of glad that my Best Buy is getting the game on Tuesday and not tomorrow. I'm working tomorrow so it would have been TORTURE knowing that I could have been playing it. T_T

I decided to pick up a midnight shift tonight so when I get out of work at say 730am, I'll be so tired I wont even care if I can get the game Monday. Though when I wake up from my coma, I'll certainly see if I can't snag the game tomorrow evening. Gamestop will fail here in that regard though.

Hmmm....tomorrow this game shall be mine!!

My friend was being a major bitch today. He took some pics of himself playing the game and mailed it to me while I was at work.
