@DrFinkelstein

No, I mean, it WAS on sale. It's not anymore. So there's no point in waiting for the next sale! It could be YEARS!!!

Finally getting around to playing The Walking Dead. Holy crap is it ever a fantastic experience. And I don't even like zombie games! Just finished up Episode 4 (of 5) last night and it's all I can think about while at work today.

I still need to beat Dust: An Elysian Tail for the 360. It's a pretty cool game with nifty combat and a nice style to it. I always look forward to indie games on marketplaces. I remember a few summers ago, when xbox had the summer indie thing going on and I picked up games like Monday Night Combat and Harmony of Despair. I would love to see more of those types of things going on.
Dust is my favourite game I played in 2012. I loved that game from start to finish.

I was about to get Dust, but during the time that I was deliberating it, the price went back up. I'm actually kind of glad, since it didn't really resonate with me. From what everyone was saying, I was thinking that it would be a tight, exploration-based action game. But it kind of felt like a loose flash game for furries. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's definitely impressive that one dude made it, but it kind of felt like an XBLI game in some ways. I dunno. Maybe I'm being too harsh.
You suck. :p

Got around to playing a couple of games that my brother bought a while back.

I started Dust, and I really enjoy the combat, but that's not really a world that I want to delve into. The voice acting, the sense of humor, the art style, the furries... the game's presentation values are out the wazoo, but they're not a good match for me. Though I did laugh at a Wall Chicken joke.

I also played some Spelunky thanks to Anand raving about it. I had played the game before and sort of didn't like it. Think it's because I was playing it on an SDTV and everything felt so little and cramped. But now that I've got a nice big HDTV to play it on, I can really see how it shines. It's the perfect "just one more try!" game. Love the emergent gameplay; the controls are simple and the HUD is clean, so really all you need to worry about is the environment. That's my favorite kind of game-- keep all the complexity outside of the player character. Definitely gonna play more of this one.

During the EA sale, I tried Shank and Shank 2 again, because I remember liking the demo of the second way more than the demo of the first. And I still do. But then I realized that I had both on Steam from Humble Bundles, so I didn't pick Shank 2 up.

It's a pretty impressive game, though. Good 2D combat. Klei's last two games have elevated them above most developers in my eyes.

@Secret_Tunnel
Yeah! I'm so happy that you like it. And it really is perfectly suited to your tastes, now that I think about it.

I love sacrificing stuff to Kali. Kali ma!!

In related news, that heart-extracting scene in Temple of Doom gave me nightmares as a kid.

Been playing some Unfinished Swan on PSN today and it's surprisingly good. In that artsy type of way of course but it feels more than a game exploration wise. Once I hit the second chapter, things got way better and worlds look really good despite its use of simple shapes and colors.

That tower you see in the distance is pretty far away and you can get to it too and get a great view of the city once you hit it. I love the use of simple colors. Has a great look to it I think and really makes stuff pop out

I haven't really bought much on PSN lately, not necessarily from lack of desire, but because I've been trying to focus more on stuff that I can review for Negative World.

But this game seems kind of awesome. Guacamelee!

Guacamelee! is a Metroid-vania style action-platformer set in a magical Mexican inspired world. The game draws its inspiration from traditional Mexican culture and folklore, and features many interesting and unique characters. Guacamelee builds upon the classic open-world Metroid-vania style of games, by adding a strong melee combat component, a new dimension switching mechanic, and cooperative same-screen multiplayer for the entire story. The game also blurs the boundaries between combat and platforming by making many of the moves useful and necessary for both of these.

Might have to jump on this.

Playing and enjoying it a lot so far. The fact that it's on sale for PS+ members and that I never used that 10$ credit I got for being a "loyal customer" made this a no brainer.

PS+ members.

*shakes fist*

@Zero

Well it's only a 3$ discount so nothing big. It's just that it costing me 2$ was kind of hard to ignore
04/11/13, 06:59
Ah.

Well I may hold off until I clear out a few more games, but it looks pretty neat.

I wonder if this game could make it to the Wii U? The developers put in a LOT of Nintendo references, apparently. I wonder why it is Sony exclusive?

EXAMPLES

Etc.

I asked the developer at PAX and he said don't count on it.
04/11/13, 17:40
Well then.

It's just a bit odd to me to make so many references to Nintendo's past and then stick it on Sony systems only. Of course, this might make it tougher to put on Nintendo systems, since Nintendo is stick about their IPs and these references are pretty blatant.

Sony locks up lots of console-exclusive contracts. It may come to Steam, as neither Sony or MS cares about taking games away from the PC platform, but don't expect it to hit other consoles.
04/11/13, 20:44
I think I'll be picking it up this week, myself, since the $12 purchase gets me the PS3 version AND the PS Vita version.

So I got Guacamelee! and played through maybe 2 hours or so... I'm pretty much in love with this game.

There are the old school Nintendo references of course. TONS of them. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Donkey Kong, Wario, etc. I even saw Majora's Mask in there. And not always just in the background either, some of the references are within the actual gameplay. I just participated in a very obvious Super Mario Bros. one, for instance. I have to imagine that someone over there likes Nintendo, even if they did sign a deal with Sony or whatever. It just seems amazing to me that a game with so many love letter to Nintendo references is a Sony exclusive.

And there are some Internet meme references as well.

But beyond that, the actual gameplay is just plain fun. It's basically a Metroidvania brawler. The fighting controls just feel so nice. And already within just 2 hours or so I have gotten a lot of neat power-ups. Also, the first temple area had this kind of light / dark mechanic going on which worked into a lot of the platforming and had some puzzle-esque elements to it.

And this is all happening with a kind of slick Mexican vibe to it, which is pretty neat, because it's not some overdone thing like space marines or zombies.

I hesitate to overhype a game that I'm still kind of just cracking into, but I'm very pleased so far.

@Zero

Oh you have every right to hype it up because the game only keeps getting better. Only downside is that it's a bit short but there's still quite a bit of optional quests to do and of course going for 100% which should take a couple more hours probably.
