I'm just going to leave the newest trailer right here at the top. Enjoy it guys, I'm not watching. Media blackout starts NOW!

We're beyond the want level now. I need this game.

I've been putting off fighting the final boss for awhile now--I've done all the other levels and completed nearly all the time trials. I kinda don't want it to end...although at the same time, I've already spent close to 40 hours on it, which is insane for a platformer, especially a 2-D one.

Is there a way to watch the Opening CG again without starting a new game? I can't find it, and I'd rather watch it on my TV than on Youtube. If not, that's an unnecessary oversight, but oh well.

Hm, I guess not, unless starting 1-1 does it (which I don't think it does).

Two Shinies to go until I have them all!! I'd like to write the NW review on this game soon-ish, but I want to finish it all up first. As in, get EVERYTHING.

@TriforceBun It doesn't.

Geez, that's pretty quick! Nicely done

I am almost done with World 6. This game is soooo amazing!

@Simbabbad Do you mean a cleaning kit like this?
12/10/10, 22:27
Oh! I didn't know there was an official one.

In that case, I checked out Nintendo's online store and I believe this is the one.

But it's only $10 at store.nintendo.com vs. $30 at amazon.

Wow, Donkey Kong Country Returns isn't just one of our highest rated Wii games, it is currently in our top 10 rated games overall!

Or would be, except it doesn't have quite enough ratings yet...

Man oh man, I just got to 7-5 in the Factory World and hearing that remix of Life in the Mines... so beautiful!

Ok, it has the 10 ratings now, and is currently our 7th highest rated game of all-time.

Wow. Heck, even I don't think it's that good, and I'm a Retro Studios fanboy.

Banned.

Actually, putting it above Final Fantasy 3/6 works for me. I think I may have missed the boat on that one, played it years later (like, Gamecube generation) and found it to be pretty great, but not OMG TOP 10. My appreciation for that game isn't quite where it is for other Square RPGs I played back in the SNES days.

I suspect that it won't stay in our top 10 longterm though. Then again it seems to get pretty universal praise around here, even from Retro Studios haterz.

...but you haven't actually played it yet, right? You may end up disliking it, or perhaps finding it overrated. I think it does some things better than NSMBW, but it certainly isn't as tight in controls and the likes.

Geez, you people! FF3 is amazing. It is one of only two games I'd give a 10/10 to. The art style, the story, the writing, the characters, it's all extremely excellent; the perfect blend of depth, tragedy, and comedy! The GREATEST game soundtrack in my eyes/ears. A top-notch villain. A fake ending + massive cataclysm leading into a spectacular non-linear second-half!

But that's neither here nor there, I suppose.

I'm a little surprised at how well DKCR is being received, myself. My appreciation for the game is well-documented in this thread, so I assumed I was one of the biggest fans of the game here...but I guess a lot of people really like it! Strangely, the score I'm going to give it soon will actually lower its average, despite it being one of my favorite Wii games.

@Zero

It's above Metroid Prime, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy.

Sounds right to me.
Thumbs up.

@TriforceBun Well as I said, I played it years after the fact. There is a part of me that knows that if I played it when it released it may have blown me away, but I can't go back and change time! It's still a really great game and it was fun getting to experience a 2D RPG classic in an era where those mostly disappeared, but the experience was lessened a bit by time I'm afraid.

I feel the same about the scoring for DKCR too, I gave it a 9.4 thinking I was giving it a super high score, and I am in the lower side of scores here so far. People are really loving this game! Either that, or the people who aren't really loving it didn't bother scoring it yet, which could be the case. I loved it and am still loving it in mirror mode but there are a lot of things I would change as well, so... my score makes sense to me. Though I may or may not change it, I kind of scored it before fully getting used to the controls and discovering mirror mode.

I gave DKCR a perfect score.. I haven't done an official review but my impressions mid way through this thread.

Each world is almost better then the next (I'm now on World 8), making my early review stand up even stronger. As I was scoring it, I was reminded that playing it was just as enjoyable as Super Mario Galaxy and had the same number of wow moments. The level design is absolutely outstanding - a cut above almost all other games on all platforms. The Graphics and Sounds are wonderful giving me nonstalgia feelings mixed in with fresh new memories. Having no issues with the play control, I gave it a perfect score as well, moving through the K levels and TB doing all the speed runs in amazing time is a testament to that.

Its the hottest selling game in my city right now - it sells out almost as soon as it comes in so I know I made the right choice in picking it up day one and not waiting till xmas.

Retro did an amazing job...

Do you get anything for collecting ALL the puzzle pieces? (apart from one concept art for each one)

Aside from artwork, no.

What about completing the mirror mode? Not that I ever will, some of those stages were tough enough the normal way.

Nothing too big as far as I know, more art I think. I've just unlocked Mirror Mode myself; I've just been sticking to Time Trials up to this point.

If you wanna play more levels, all you need is the KONG letters

Awesome, I just beat the game (World 8 boss) and uncovered the Golden Temple. Well, now I need to collect the Rare Orbs so I can actually enter the Temple.

I just want to keep playing and playing...
