Official game database thread for new games in the database, reviews, etc. [community]

Hey guys, I decided to make a thread to call attention to one of our major features here, the Game Database. I'll probably bump it from time to time to let everyone know about new hot games that have been added that you can add to your collections or rate.

First, let me explain a few things about rating games and adding them to your collection. Everyone (yes, even you -1ers!) can rate games and add them to your collection. This is a pretty simple process. Go up to the menu above and select GAMES -> Game Database, or just CLICK HERE. You will see a list of titles you can browse, and you can also search for specific titles with the search feature at the top, and even add games you can't find with the little bar at the top right above the search functionality that says "Submit a Game (keywords)". To add a game to your collection you check the box under "Owned" next to the game, and to rate it you select a number under "You" (you can add without rating and vice versa, if you want to). You can do one game or a whole page at a time, and when you are ready to submit your collection and ratings updates, click the "CLICK TO UPDATE THIS PAGE OF YOUR COLLECTION AND RATINGS" bar that can be found at either the top or bottom. Simple!

You can also rate games and add them to your collection from the individual game pages that you access when you click on any game from the main game page. For instance, if you were on the Mario Party 6 page there is a box in the top right where you can add it to your collection or rate it and click the "PUSH" button to update.

Now, let me explain something about writing game reviews. Again, everyone (yes, even you -1ers!) can write reviews for the site. This is a pretty simple process. Like before, go up to the menu above and select GAMES -> Game Database (or just CLICK HERE. Select the game you want to review (you can use the search at the top to find games quickly) and click on it. Near the top right of the page for that individual game you will see "Add a review" with a little plus next to it. Click the plus, write your review, choose a score (or not, if you don't like scoring reviews) and submit. Easy as pie!

And don't worry about not being formal enough, or sticking to a specific review format, or whatever. As long as you can write a paragraph or two and put your thoughts into a semi-coherent form, everything is good. Also, reviews of older games are totally acceptable, for instance I recently posted a WarioWare: Twisted! review of mine that I wrote like 6 years ago or whatever.

Alright, that's all I have for now. Use the features guys!

@Zero

And if you take everything that I write as offense, no, no headway. I don't know why you'd be offended by what I wrote.

Unless.... "EVERYBODY IS OFFENDED BY SOMETHING ALWAYS." Theme of the YEAR. I don't get it.

EDIT- Bullying - How many times have you had to say:
1. "_________, stop bothering Mustache" vs. "Mustache, stop bothering ________?"
2. "Hey, no name calling!" in defense of me vs. "Mustache, no name calling!" ?

Because I know you take issue with the fact that I spend a lot of time working on a site and Shirley doesn't "support" it or whatever. Are you denying that? You have openly stated it many times before, and your comment about it now was obviously a snarky response dredging that up again.

And bullying takes many forms, believe me I know all about this, I just got a degree in Elementary Education. Always pressuring people to do things your way is, at least in Elementary school, a very defined form of bullying. Look, again I'm not saying you're a bully, that is your word, but I think you need to look hard at the way you act before you start throwing everyone else under the bus.

Whatever the case Jargon is right. There are better places to discuss this than the game database thread.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has chipped in to help update the database with non-Nintendo games during this transition. I don't play too many, nor have much an awareness of them besides perhaps some Steam discoveries. I'm happy to see people helping populate that as they have.
09/12/13, 06:14
@DrFinkelstein I'm happy to contribute

Zero, do you have a set date in mind for adding more platforms to the database, or it something you're still thinking about?
09/12/13, 10:40
I didn't have a set date in mind, it was more like I wanted to launch with a few platforms and make sure everything was working correctly before opening up even more. For instance, finding out about and getting to correct the way it was allowing duplicate entries for name / platform was helpful before moving forward.

I guess next should be COMPUTERS but I don't really game on computers so I'm not sure what would make the best sense for platforms there. Just PC / Mac for current stuff? Steam is more of a service than a platform. How many older computer platforms should we add? I literally know jack about this. I used to game on a Texas Instruments computer but I don't know how that relates to other computer platforms. I also gamed on an IBM computer.

To be honest, I don't even know what the F "PC" means. Does that just mean a Windows computer?

@Zero

I won't be satisfied until I can add Star Wars for TI-82.

I think all of my platforms are covered and I think I have all of my games in there now (finally). I owned a 2600 once upon a time, but I don't remember any of the games I owned for it aside from a few gems (both Pitfall games and Pigs in Space).

@DrFinkelstein No problem . It's been fun. I'm glad I've had the chance to help.

In some circles PC means Windows, in others it means Mac and Linux also. Perhaps it should just be denoted by Windows, Mac, Linux instead of PC. PC is pretty vague and as a Mac user I find it 'offensive' that Mac gets lumped in because it is then really hard to find out what games are really for Mac. Most if not all games work on windows/pc, but Mac is a smaller subset that's relevant to me.

Moving the PC conversation here!

Did read though, and good advice.

Welp, as I said before, PM's don't work as you threatened to "start saying mean things." Not very non-bully, sir.

Make a suggestion.
09/13/13, 00:37
You really have more left to say? I think we ran that into the ground and then some. You're free to PM me, but I'm not going to go back and forth endlessly on something that neither of us have really had anything new to say about for awhile now.

As far as I'm concerned the smut thread decision was made years ago and is long over with, and the non-Nintendo decision is fairly recent but was essentially made months ago with the poll and me stating that it would eventually happen. I'm not going to relive them both for the rest of my life.

Oh, and just to make it clear (to anyone reading so they get both sides of the story), if you recall, me "threatening" to say mean things was not a threat at all, it was me deciding to leave a conversation BEFORE I said mean things and telling you why I was leaving, because at that point you were telling me that people who don't think women are worse than men are all living with their eyes closed yada yada and I'm sorry if I can't find nice things to say to someone about that kind of talk.

Definitely don't need more of that in my life right now.

For The Guardian Legend, there is a missing "The" to the title.

It's "The Guardian Legend".

Added Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and am now adding Pokemon Rumble U. Box art would be good!

It's possible that this is premature just because we don't quite know how they will handle things, but really we can always just change the entry to a specific sport if in fact they sell each as an individual application. I suspect that you will have to download Wii Sports Club and then buy the sports as "DLC". Thus you'll always open one application for as many sports as you have.

Hence I made a Game Database entry for, Wii Sports Club!

On September 5th, "Assassin's Creed 4" for the Wii U was submitted to the database. I already submitted this game as "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" on May 4th.

@X-pert74

Assassin's Creed 4 is actually the sequel to Assassin's Creed IV, launching three days later and continuing Edward Kenway's story after the cliffhanger ending in Assassin's Creed IV. Assassin's Creed 4 is gonna be great though, because it's focusing on naval warfare and open-world gameplay this time, unlike the other games which had no naval warfare or open-world gameplay whatsoever.

BTW I added a new log option that you all can use, "On hold". I have a lot of games that I don't quite give up on but haven't finished yet either. I had been marking them "To do" but it doesn't seem right to group them with games that I own and just haven't started yet so... "On hold" was born.

@Zero
That is awesome.Great feature.
09/28/13, 10:10
@Zero Thank you Also when I marked a game as "on hold", it claimed on the game's page that one person had given up on it. Perhaps that description should be updated or clarified on the game page.

With the recent addition of the PC category, I've taken the opportunity to add nearly all of the X-COM series to the database

Ah thanks didn't catch that, it should be fixed now.
