Hey guys, I hope you're enjoying the newest Mario title: "Super Mario Galaxy Wahooooo" (according to Charles Martinet on the load-up screen at least).

So how many stars do you have? Which galaxies have you most enjoyed? Favorite power-up? Be sure to mark spoilers though!

Ah well, it's not a major spoiler anyway. At least not if you've completed the first game.

The difficulty just went up quite a bit at World 5 for me. Felt a lot more challenging for me, died alot more than before.

It's good to hear the difficulty ramps up later on. So far the game has been... relatively easy. I mean, I know I'm only in World 2 and things shouldn't be *too* hard yet, but I suppose I expected more of a challenge. Of course, I'm so busy just having fun I don't worry too much about it.
Indeed. The difficulty felt like it was slowly, gradually building up, until it hit me there that it switched gears. And I don't expect the comet challenges to hold back anything either.

Well, gonna start going through World 6. Can't wait to go through the Throwback Galaxy (it's in World 6, correct? Wait, don't answer that, lol).

The difficulty seems pretty right, though. I mean, I was one of those people who complained that the original game was too easy, but I wasn't expecting them to ever make things too difficult. I'm just happy to be dying more than the original game.

... and some of the comet challenges are pretty tough. My only complaint with the game so far is that many of them seem to be based on time limits. Does anybody hate time limits as much as me?

@Hinphwell, if I can manage Jet Grind Radio no problem, then that's a sign time limits don't really phase me.

And the comet challenges are another thing I wanna mention. The challenges themselves, from what I've gone through so far, seem more varied than in the last game.
In Galaxy one, the comets were easily identifiable, and followed their template to the letter.
Galaxy 2 just takes those and adds little "tweaks" to them. Referring back to the time limits, in the speed run comets, some have a regular timer giving you a couple minutes, or start you with 30 seconds and then you pick up timers that add more time to your run.
They definetely feel alot more unique this time around.

BTW, I am now working my way through S World. Finished the final boss, which the last little bit was very awesome, and the ending was rather sweet. A bit humorous, too. Not to mention the staff roll sequence. Nice little fun bit.

I'm currently working my way through... oh wait, my copy still hasn't arrived.

Fuck my life.

You know... I actually liked the time limits in Jet Grind too. They were kind of necessary to give the game that sense of urgency. Preferred it to JSRF.

The time limits have also been pretty fair in Galaxy 2... and I like some of them a lot. But I still prefer the non-timed platforming challenges, overall.

Progress update: Beat end boss and am at 77 stars. Still adore the game.

i just hit 90 stars and im in love..... still...

Just beat the Final Bowser at 106 stars.

I gotta say I was a tad disappointed in the last fight...though the music was indeed epic

Okay, this just in, Mario Galaxy has now ripped me a new one...TWICE.

Yeah, I just got two game overs in one sitting. Something I hardly expected to happen. One was on a silver star challenge (everything was sped up, with disapearing platforms), and the other was a galaxy in S World.

Before that, I had narrowly survived a purple coin challenges, making it out with only 2 lives. The interesting thing though, was that after I made it back to Starship Mario, Lubba gave me a congratulations for pulling through on that challenge. Obviously it's just a bit of text, but it actually made me feel kinda proud of myself. Like I just built character or something. Though frankly that did not stop me from rushing to my doom and paying the price for it two times.

But hey, atleast you aren't sent back to the title screen when you lose all your lives. That was nice.

I have a general question that I don't believe is too much of a spoiler: When do the comet challenges start appearing? I mean, I'm only in World 2, but I've gotten a number of the Comet Medals, but haven't seen any comet challenges appear yet. When do these show up?
05/28/10, 08:04
@WindWaker

They started showing up for me after I dug into World 3 for a bit. Once that happens, the comets appear like crazy.

I got the comets once I hit 15 medals. I don't know if that's when they start, but I was also a tad into World 3 when they unleashed. Just got 50 stars and beat World 3. I'll start World 4 in the morning or something.

My copy came in this morning and I got my chance to play it after I got back from work. Played for about 3 hours and have gotten 18 stars and in world 2.

I'm loving it.

This game has finally blown me the hell away. World 5 gets SERIOUS.

I'm halfway through world 3, 30 stars, and last night I unlocked my first prankster comet. I don't know what the stage is called, let's say it's 1-2, with all the spinies. The challenge was to kill them all using invicibility stars and you had 50 seconds. I'm sure some people breezed through that but I thought it was pretty damn hard! Took me half a dozen tries.
05/28/10, 15:39
Just dipped into World 4. Loving the game. That is all for now. Loved the supermassive level along with so many others of them.
05/28/10, 15:48
So I played for a grand total of seventeen minutes this morning, just enough to get to Spaceship Mario. I felt rushed, so I didn't enjoy it like I thought I would. Granted, I enjoyed it, but it didn't grab me because I felt rushed.

When I get home on Monday, I'm going to restart my file, take my time and soak it all in.

My wife ordered MG2 for me for my birthday, so it will be here next week sometime! Woooooooo!

Then I can add more to this thread.
05/28/10, 17:05
@Pandareus That one definitely took me a few tries. More challenging than I expected to say the least.

I have 69 stars, and I'm in the last level of world 5, Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker. I've gotta say, world 5 definitely cranks it up a notch. The fluzzard level in world 5 was the devil, especially trying to get the comet medal.

Anyone realize how similar those Pink Rock spitting things (I guess kind of like Octoroks) look like the Deku people of Majora's Mask? I saw them most recently in the Honeyhop Galaxy.
