I didn't realize that the ghosts only appeared with Luigi. I have just been playing with Luigi ever since I've been able to -- I don't think I've switched back to Mario since I fully unlocked him.
So far I have 170 stars, and still having a blast. I have gold crowns on the first three worlds as well as a few levels in World S. I'm not strictly playing this anymore (like I was for the first "half" of the game) -- I started playing Alan Wake a couple days ago. But I'm still determined to get all of the stars, something I didn't do in Galaxy 1 (at least not with Luigi).
Alright. Made it to the last section of the final star, the part with all the hammer bros. I already have the game paused, as I don't want to rush ahead until I know I'm ready. So right now I'm taking a break.
Man, I feel so tense. And even after this, I'm not sure if I want to do the ghost runs. The completionist in me is trying to make me do so.
Quick question for those who have gotten all 240 (or are close). Once you get 120, does 121-240 go by a lot quicker? I mean, I'm assuming I have like a TON of game left after getting 120, but maybe most of those stars only take a couple minutes to get.
Is it possible that the ghosts only appear in a level if you manage to finish a course as Luigi without dying? There's this one time I didn't unlock a ghost, and I'm pretty sure that's why...

Yeah, there have been times when I beat a level with Luigi and didn't unlock a ghost.

You are in for a ton of game. It's not as interesting because you're not seeing anything new (level-wise) which is the main driving force of this game, but it's still very fun as an extra. And some of the stars are pretty hard to get.
Yeah I'm not really expecting it to be as "interesting" but in a way there is something comforting about having a real reason to come back to the areas. I almost feel like the earlier 3D Marios got you more invested in exploring the details of each specific area, but the Galaxy games jump around so much there might be a super cool area you burn through in a few minutes and never come back to.
There is some exploration involved, but at the same time, you're exploring on levels which were not designed to be explored. This is a game about quick reflex and crazy level design, not a collectathon like those classic Rare platformers, for example. Most of the stars are located in "risky" places, so it's more about figuring out how to get the star than finding out where it is.
@Zero Yeah, they're significantly quicker from my experience. A few of them might have you stumped for 10 minutes or so, but for the most part, many will take you only a couple minutes to snag.
HAHA congrats man! Work has been a beast this week so I am still at 62. Maybe we need like an achievements display for our profile/icon? Only really awesome games and only really hard stuff. Then we could have like little pictures or medals under our name! Zero... make it happen
Of course they will have to be on your honor, but I think most people here are trustworthy enough to make it work.
