Hey guys, I hope you're enjoying the newest Mario title: "Super Mario Galaxy Wahooooo" (according to Charles Martinet on the load-up screen at least).

So how many stars do you have? Which galaxies have you most enjoyed? Favorite power-up? Be sure to mark spoilers though!

@carlosrox

I know what you mean by "end" but you are far far from the "end end".

I did a short "marathon" run of the game last night. I have 52 Stars right now. I feel like I'm catching up to you guys, even though I'm not, lol!

@DrFinkelstein
That's what I hear and I love it.

Funny, if I had been following this thread by the minute I would have saw that leaf raft, which would made getting a certain star a lot, lot easier than my method of gathering the water gliding bugs so I can bounce off them and make it to the floating platform without losing a single cloud of cloud mario form.

@Renjaku

Hah.

So, did you succeed?
06/01/10, 06:14
@Renjaku

That's hilarious

Wow, you got that Star without the Leaf Raft? That's impressive. I almost attempted to do that myself, (since I didn't know what I was doing) but then I spoke to that Pianta (sp?) guy and figured it out.

Played a bit more tonight, I'm up to 57 Stars now, and am now officially in World 5! Woo-hoo!

@Renjaku

That's being resourceful. Nice work.

So what's everyone's top three favorite galaxies so far? I'd have to say...

1. Melty Monster Galaxy
2. Hightail Falls Galaxy
3. Puzzle Plank Galaxy

I have to give a shout out to the Rolling Master Piece and Rolling Coaster Galaxies too. Those are so much fun.

Ok I sort of lied. I was planning on executing that plan, but I ended up discovering the leaf raft when I got desperate enough to talk to panitas for hints.

For some reason the water bugs don't return to their original spots after chasing you, you could get them in one area. I think it is possible to do without leaf raft, I got pretty close to making it after bouncing off of only one water bug.

edit: oh yeah, tiny word of advise to speed up cosmic jewel collecting: begin by selecting star three, and try to obtain stars 1 and 2 anyway before getting 3. Why do this? Well, when you return to the 'same' star, you can skip through the little cutscenes introducing the level.

Haven't posted yet, due to only getting the game last Friday, and playing it to death over the weekend. I have 118 stars now, and have loved every minute of it.

I watched the GameTrailers review because I was curious about what they had to say about the game... and thank goodness I didn't look at that review before, it's spoilers galore, but they had an interesting take on how they praise the game:

(Spoiler-tag if you wanna watch the review yourself to find out what they think, but warning, do not watch it if you haven't played through the game completely yet, I'm telling you, there are tons of spoilers in that video review.)

"It's script was probably less than a page, but it goes back to the 'less is more' ideal. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of those games made for the game player and not necessarily the game fan. If you feel like you need a deep, involving story with gobs of cutscenes to stay engaged- steer clear, but if you play videogames for what makes them different from other entertainment mediums, put aside a few days on your calender and get ready for a top-shelf gameplay experience. There's more creativity in some single stages in this game than in entire other games. It's a bit familiar, but all the fat has been cut away to expose a pure gaming core. There's something for just about everyone, and games that we can truly recommend to everyone- are rare. Here's hoping that Mario never goes back to the Mushroom Kingdom."

Just got the 242nd star, with a little help from Player 2. Does anyone know if the ending changes?
06/01/10, 23:33
@Secret_Tunnel

I have 241 stars, 41 comet coins (all levels), and I just got 9,999 stars, but the comet hasn't shown up yet... any ideas?

As for what you said, I don't know yet.

So I'm up to two stars. I got Yoshi and had a blast in his first appearance. I died in both stages once for stupid reasons (trying to get an extra life), so my coin total is a bit down...do the coins you collect amount to anything in the long run?
06/01/10, 23:59
@ludist210

It doesn't seem like the coins have any real use. Maybe I'm missing something too.
06/02/10, 00:01
@Octorockin

Well that's unfortunate, but not entirely surprising. They didn't in any of Mario's other 3D adventures (except for Sunshine, but those coins were blue), so meh.

This game has way too many stars I have the first 5 Worlds (why do worlds have galaxies in them ? ) 100%'d so I should have the last two finished tonight. Not sure if I want to do a Luigi run on each level to to unlock the "ghosts."

Man, I can't perform that double kick move. I don't get it. Maybe there has to be an enemy there to practice on? I'm just doing it in the air.
You definitely need an enemy near. All it does is auto engage the downed enemy kick since the long jump after the spin matches you up with the enemy's flying away speed.

It's a post 120 stars star linkman.

I'm at 241 now, took a breather before the last pain trial.

As for what you said, I don't know yet.

It doesn't give you any "warning" that the comet is in orbit or anything; the comet icon should just be on the final galaxy when you have 9999.

You also need to deposit them in the Toad bank.
