Picross 3D on the DS
8.63/10 from 14 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Picross 3D on the DS!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

I am so excited for Picross 3D coming out tomorrow (though technically tuesday). Who else is excited for this?

I don't know the likelihood of this thread sticking around but I figure people can share their opinions and tips and such if any here in a few days. I don't know how the "create a puzzle" thing works but maybe we'll be able to aid in sharing puzzles with each other via this too.

I... I actually kind of like the music. There's this one piece in particular that is so frickin' weird and unmelodious that it makes it kind of awesome.

@Pandareus

I have a feeling I know which piece you're referring to, and I cannot stand it. I'm actually almost to the point where I'm going to change the music to an ambient noise, but the Challenge music is decent. The rest of it isn't so pleasant on my ears.

@Pandareus

One good track does not make it up to that horrible festival music or whatever it's called. Listening to it some more would probably make me kill myself.

@VofEscaflowne

I'm okay with the music but preference-wise I feel it is a step down from Picross DS.

I haven't come across Nintendo-themed puzzles yet but I will be pissed if they aren't in the game. I love the little Nintendo touches they put in some games and having a whole level of Nintendo-themed stuff in Picross DS was a great bonus near the end.

I checked last night and I was refering to the "relax" music. Gawd, it's so awful, it's genius.

But I can't listen to it for too long. I think I'm gonna make this game my "podcast" game.

It's definitely a good podcast game, just as Picross DS was. I don't even remember any of the music from the first one since I never played with the volume up. Same with Clubhouse Games.

Has anyone tried the two Puzzle Packs available for download? They're much more difficult than the Easy puzzles I'm currently working through. I almost ran out of time on a couple of them!

I've also submitted a puzzle for the current contest. I wonder when that ends and the winning puzzles will be available?

@canonj

I haven't yet but I will soon. I wonder how many puzzles can fit. I wonder if it compares to Picross DS' space available.

@DrFinkelstein

I'm pretty sure it mentions it in the saved puzzles section. If I'm not mistaken, it's around 250.

Pic'd (see what I did there?) this game up yesterday and used the $5 off coupon. LOVE THIS GAME.

My wife and I are already starting to fight over the cartridge.

@VofEscaflowne

It's 240 I believe. I think Picross DS was 100 puzzle packs and 100 customs, so they're pretty similar.

I'm not sure how long they've been available, but the 20 winning puzzles from the May contest are available for download. Check them out!

(Did anyone here get their puzzle chosen? I did not. )

I picked this up yesterday for a long car ride and it did the job just fine. So far I'm finding it a bit tougher than Picross DS, and I'm only 20 or so puzzles in.
I'll be sure to check out the downloadable puzzles.

I feel it's harder than the original also. I think it's because not every side is labelled. I'm finding that I have to guess by the end (since I'm terrible at storing moves in my head). Or I'm overlooking something, which is totally possible.

The number next to my name says "84" Is that the number of puzzles I did or the number of stars I have? (I'm still in Easy mode)

I haven't even tried to make a puzzle yet. At this rate, I may never need to.

I think the number next to your name is the number of puzzles completed. I'm almost done with the normal mode and I'm somewhere around 240. There are approximately 350 puzzles in total.

Man... it's taking me forever to just get through the Easy mode, there's so many puzzles! And it doesn't help that I only get through like one before I fall asleep, lol.

Are there 10 sets per mode? I'm never gonna finish at this rate...
Posted: 08/31/10, 09:52:39
@heliumsky

Yes there are. All modes have the similar pit stops too with the end being a big "group" puzzle of multiple pieces.

Well now that I finally have it, it's pretty good, but in my opinion not as great as Picross DS. The original game I restarted four times after completing all the puzzles. I don't think I'll restart Picross 3D after I beat it. It's just not as much fun. Still good, just not mind-blowing like the first.

I want another 2D Picross even more now.

@-JKR-

Yeah, I think I would prefer a 2D version. Picross 3D isn't bad, but it's not nearly as great as Picross DS is.

Does anyone else enjoy guessing what you've Picross'd in that little 5-second window just after you complete the puzzle (as the structure rotates)? I get a lot more enjoyment than I should when I get it right

I just discovered a cool trick. When you're using the arrow to delve inside the structure, you can double-tap the arrow to go directly back to the original viewpoint. Saves a few seconds here and there, and pretty useful for larger puzzles.
