Okay, I just saw this on Kotaku, and started reading the comments... and man... some people just don't understand! D: The comments about Mario and Zelda really piss me off because they're not over-saturated like Call of Duty and Guitar Hero. The comments about Pokemon irk me a little bit, but I can understand most complaints about them. And I can kind of understand the hate towards Rock Band, because even the fans have been requesting some more substantial changes to the game formula, ever since I started posting in the Rock Band forums back in 2007 when it came out. (This E3 though, Harmonix may be revealing something big.) I think we can ALL understand the hate towards Sonic, though my friend defends the character to death. Hm... what about people that defend bad games? Like... the throw-away franchises from bigger developers... i.e. Crash and Spyro... people still actually defend those games. (Not the originals) WTF?! Ahem... anyway... So... what franchise are people tired of, but you're not? And are you willing to defend it or not? URL to share (right click and copy)

I sort of am sick of Nintendo games, but not because they're bad or anything, because they're not. I think it's that I mainly played just Nintendo games for the most part while growing up, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I really made a commitment to exploring more non-Nintendo games; especially games on non-Nintendo systems. Nowadays, usually if there's a game I'm interested in on the Wii, it's by a third-party, rather than Nintendo themselves. I do find myself interested in some of the side games Nintendo makes/publishes that differ from their usual fare in some way, such as Disaster or Fatal Frame, but those are few and far between. Maybe if Nintendo had more action/adventure games that weren't Zelda, I'd be more interested in their first-party lineup.
As for oft-derided franchises that I defend, I can't think of too many. I guess I often find myself defending certain games in particular, like FFCC: The Crystal Bearers or Disaster: Day of Crisis or Deadly Premonition, whenever someone who's never played them (or who only put a small amount of time into them) puts them down. But generally, unless someone is being absolutely unfair with their accusations, I'm fine with what they have to say. Like with Metal Gear for instance, I enjoy the series, but I can totally understand people's complaints that the story is convoluted, or that there's more focus on cutscenes than gameplay for their liking. |
