@ZeroThe trap isn't a trap like a mousetrap. Its more of a "snare" or a "hey, he can't move, tranq him!" deal. When the dude is drooling, thats a good indicator that he's almost ready. When he's limping away after a sound thrashing, thats another good one. I like to beat the guy to where he's going, and set up a trap in his path. I guess when you're limpy and tired (and programmed so), you don't change direction. It usually takes 1-2 Tranqs to take him down. If you find yourself throwing 4 to no avail..something is probably wrong, and you've gone too soon. If its the right time though, and the guy is laboring, success will be achieved as we did tonight! I find Shock Traps to be MUCH easier to Capture a Monster with than the Pitfall Traps, by the by. (and if your initial question is in reference to why I couldn't set a trap down at that one time, I believe its because I already had an active EZ Shock Trap out there. That has never happened to me before, though..) Good hunt, guys! |

Haha, what are you talking about? ANY game can be spoiled. I love how we have to be all hush-hush about crap like Mario, Metroid or Zelda (people were PASSING STONES about the threat of Mario Galaxy 2 content being spoiled), but when I have a problem about something in Monster Hunter, I'm being irrational. Lovely. No, those other games are solo afairs. Monster Hunter is a social game like I explained whether you play it solo or online, you will still share ideas and tactics with fellow hunters either online or in person. Don't ignore what I said like I didn't say it. The game encurages networking because it doesn't hold your hand all the way through. There's no arrow pointing the way. To get anywhere you can't just play it by yourself in a vaccuum. There's no story progression, it's creatures that mostly everyone knows exist and you need to go fight them. No one can spoil the game for you.Hearing the name of a monster is not going to make you not fear it once you see it for yourself. Hearing the name of a monster is not going to make you disappointed that the game hasn't ended yet because there's no real ending. New quests on the disc may end but people don't play Monster Hunter just for that. We keep playing for the thrill of the hunt and to get that new piece of armor or weapon we always wanted. I'm at the maximum Hunter Rank in the PSP game, which is Hunter Rank 9 and yet I have not done all there is to do. There are so many monsters I haven't even fought yet and even if I had, I'd need to fight them again to get what I want. And then there's the free DLC that keeps coming. --- And everytime I see that shiny black Wii I die inside because I always end up buying something else instead of saving up for one. One day. |

@Simbabbad Yeah but Metroid isn't set up so that in order to get the next upgrade you need to progress, you have to run around seeking out 5 chozo bones and 10 skree wings and 3 metroid brains. There is backtracking sure, but it's usually pretty straight-forward and unless you get lost, it'll take a couple minutes of backtracking to open up a new place to explore. Most of the new items are in new areas, or new paths of old areas. You have to go find 1 power-up, and it usually opens 3 or 4 ways to go. (Sure, only 1 of those ways is the true way "forward", but still.) And near the end of the (Prime) games when you have to collect all the random stuff and do maybe a half hour straight of backtracking is the most annoying part of the games. Mind you, I don't mind collecting 10 monster guts in a mission (here and there, though they're not as fun as the missions hunting new monsters), because it is a straight-forward mission and I know exactly what I'm getting and why (because it gives me a star and I can move forward). It is trying to go back into old areas and piece together a bunch of stuff to make weapons and armor in a system I don't fully understand that doesn't sit well with me. My mind just isn't set up to handle this kind of game style well. Whereas many people will think things like "oh I can't wait to get this thingy to make this armor that is going to make me stronger against this beast" all that goes through my mind is "am I going to spend an hour running around semi-lost and confused collecting this stuff just to make something that may be somewhat worthless in the end?" CRISIS hearts said something interesting above, about how to get anywhere you have to talk to other people and not play in a vacuum. And that's what happens to me when I'm about to spend time farming or whatever is I start thinking "should I be talking to other people and see if this is actually a good usage of my time or not?" But I don't always want to get online and spend time hashing that stuff out with people, I play games to get AWAY from the Internet (which I spend too much time on as it is.) Actually, I could probably go in more detail and bring my anxiety and scattered mind and fear of (important?) decision making and inability to focus on multiple projects at once into this. It's funny, I was JUST talking to Shirley about the similarities I have noticed between the way I play video games and the way I approach life, and how I wonder if this holds true for other people. It's not that I think this is poor development so much as it requires me to use my mind in a way that really makes me uncomfortable. Anyway, I don't even actually know how much Monster Hunter Tri is set up to force this, I've just been told that I'm going to "have" to start farming monsters for items and make good equipment if I want to make it much further in single player (I'm on the 3 star quests) and that later on you're farming almost as much or more than you are playing new missions. Then again, I have seen one person suggest that if you get evade up high enough and get good at dodging you can ignore most everything else and just keep doing new missions. Hmm. CRISIS hearts said:About the traps and tranqs, did we all explain this a few pages back? Probably, and I knew how to do this last time I was playing the game which was a month or two ago. I guess this just shows even more how scattered my mind is, I can't remember JACK nowadays. I'm still running around wondering if I remember how to capture monsters, lol. |
