FFIX released for the Switch yesterday, officially kickstarting the slew of PSX/PS2-era Final Fantasy games that Nintendo fans never got! So now's as good as time as any to dive into this title, as it's stylistically similar to the SNES games and even has cleaned-up visuals. Let's discuss our progress here.

They uprezzed the original models, cleaned up the textures, added some cheats, and they beat the UI with an ugly stick. IMO it's understandable that people don't think it's worth $11 extra.

Fair enough, but if you're a Nintendo-only gamer, you don't have any other options for playing FF9.

The sad thing is that the port of 7 will probably have even fewer features added. Square has the source code for the PS1 version of 9 still so they're able to do a fair bit with the game. They straight up don't have the source code for 8 at all and they've been working off of the Windows 95 version of 7.

@TriforceBun

I expected that with Final Fantasy X. Companies like getting away with full price for upscale GC/PS2 games.

I’m glad most of you are happy with your purchase though. FF9 is pretty great

It's so completely baffling to me that companies could spend millions of dollars developing these games and not, like, back up their files.

I'm so happy I haven't played this since release. I remember always regarding it as my favorite Final Fantasy game despite not really remembering it much, and it's very much scratching an itch for me I didn't know needed scratching. What I'm saying is this game has found my G spot, and I think it's very sexy.

Yeah, we're enjoying this as well. I just got the last party member, so I'm pretty close to where I stopped last time I played (because of a faulty third disc).
