1) There's apparently a lot of Nintendo Switch Online maintenance happening today through Wednesday for various titles. 2) The Nintendo France Twitter account does a weekly "how to play Smash" video, said next week will be a special episode and apparently teased Hero. 3) DQ Builders 2 releases worldwide later this week. 4) People are reporting that they're seeing ads for Hero on various ad-driven sites (Facebook, Google, etc.)
I'd laugh if a Mortal Kombat character got in only for all their attacks to be Friendships.
At this point I have no idea who the final two characters could be. If I had to put money on it, I'd say Minecraft and either Crash Bandicoot or Rayman are the two most likely, but I wouldn't bet on anything less than 20:1 odds on them.
Me personally, I'd probably be happiest with...
First party (seems less likely at this point) 5) Dark Matter --- Kirby 4) Karate Joe --- Rhythm Heaven 3) Min Min --- ARMS 2) Medusa --- Kid Icarus 1) Saki Amamiya (and Airan Jo echo/costume) --- Sin & Punishment
Third party 5) Ryu Hayabusa --- Ninja Gaiden / Dead or Alive 4) Phoenix Wright --- Ace Attorney 3) Tron Bonne --- Mega Man Legends / Misadventures of Tron Bonne 2) Kawase Umihara --- Umihara Kawase 1) Cadence --- Crypt of the Necrodancer (at least give us the Cadence of Hyrule music for the Zelda stages!)

Translation: You will be able to see the Hero from the Dragon Quest series in Smash. It won't be anything like a Nintendo Direct. I'll be introducing (Hero) without a script. I hope to see you there! https://t.co/sbHHcm1sD9
Hero will be available later today! (Or realistically, whenever the servers stop crashing.) He looks fun, and possibly very overpowered! But he has an MP limit, so maybe that'll keep him in check.
other small additions
-- Final Smashes now operate on a time limit -- Very Easy mode for World of Light -- Spectate mode now lets you bet on the winner (you could do this in Smash Wii U and maybe even Brawl, IIRC) -- Online Tournament mode that didn't provide much detail but seems very limited
And presumably there will be a balance patch. No new modes this time around.
Wait, what? Were people actually having trouble in this mode? I'm rubbish at this game and I don't recall any problems clearing it on normal, so it seems like easy should have been fine as it is. Are enough people really that bad at this mode to warrant a very easy? Do people just not use spirits?
I hate the time limit on Final Smashes. I donít want my opponents to know when Iím gonna unleash my super move...it has to be a surprise! This is a terrible adjustment. It actively makes the multiplayer in the game worse, IMO.
Hero is ridiculous and super fun! What a great addition to the series. There's nothing quite like landing one of his higher-risk spells, and his mechanics require my mind to work hard constantly. We finally got our Brain Age rep.
@TriforceBun He's quite fun! And crazy strong. His neutral special might be the best projectile in the game. Sure, there's an MP limit, but it hits so hard. I didn't think projectiles could get better than Samus's charge shot, but those fire spells blow it out of the water. All his specials are really good, though obviously down specials will be crazy unreliable.
His sword attacks have good range and strength, but they're a tad on the sluggish side. His back air in particular feels like it takes forever to come out.
