So this is a really clever use of the Wii remote. Basically this was an arcade game back in the day and the cabinet literally had a light gun and holster set up of some sort and the idea behind it is that you keep the gun holstered at all times until you are ready to shoot. This is replicated on the Wii by keeping the wii remote pointed down until that little window of opportunity when you can shoot.
