Golf Story releases today!!! It seems to mix Golf and RPG-like elements in a totally unique way.

I'm excited for some golfing sim action but with a deep storyline and really interesting gameplay elements. A Switch Exclusive! Fifteen bucks it seems is the MSRP.

Who's buying?

I can't put this game down. I'm enjoying the story just as much as the golf.

Winning the first tournament, and having all of your prize money taken away by your ex wife, coach, clubhouse fee, and buying a new lawnmower. Haha, soooooo good!

It's not the deepest arcade golf experience, but it still does a pretty good job. Putting is the only area that could be improved upon, at least with showing severity of slopes on the green and where they are. The little directional in the corner is fine, but I need that visual ON the green. At least sinking putts is very forgiving. It's like the hole is a foot wide (that's what she said).

I started playing last night, got maybe an hour in. It's pretty good. Something feels a bit off about the pacing / dialog to me though. Maybe it's just because I started late and was trying to get a bunch in before bed, but it felt like some of the convos kept dragging in uninteresting ways.

Still, I like the basic concept and it's a fun world to be in. I hope the golf gets at least a little deeper.

I won the WellWorn Tournament as well, got to open up the world map a bit...I played the Galf game, but I couldn't figure out how to quit aside from literally quitting the game. Still, very good little game. I like it a lot.

My only real gripe is the same as @TheOldManFromZelda's, putting can be a bit difficult because there's no overlay on the green. It's forgiving, but I wish it were on there so I could make more educated guess before I putted.

Are we supposed to assume that the entire green has the same slope, the one in the top corner?

@Zero

If you move the cursor and there's a change in slope, the indicator will change.

Ohhhh... that's definitely not ideal. Ah well.

Yeah, that was my main concern when watching footage. Very few golf games show the slope of the green in a clear and intuitive way.

It's not that big of an issue. Sometimes it's tough to judge how strong to hit it when putting uphill, but that's my only minor gripe. It's so forgiving, that if you miss, you really biffed it.

Also, Lucky is appropriately named (beat him in match play last night to earn my freedom, and boy.... some of his shots were hilarious.)

That's probably the case for putting in all golf games, right? I mean you adjust by the game's mechanics and then sort of slowly figure out how to place your shots. Though maybe in 3D games, it's a bit easier to judge than in a 2D one.

@VofEscaflowne

3D games like Tiger Woods/PGA have the colored grid on the ground, showing gradient/slope/speed. Even Mario Golf has it. But to be fair, Golf Story has the same static golf view and doesn't cut away to a putting view. It keeps the game simple, which I understand. Much like the original NES Golf? But I feel NES Golf had the little triangles on the ground to show the slope of the green and severity of said slope. I guess by putting that in Golf Story, it would take away from the aesthetics of the game.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I did that too. I guess the orange cheekybirds are the ones I need to hit towards for better placement. Good to know.

I'm not into golf games, but the story part sounds interesting. I s'pose that isn't enough though, is it?

@TheOldManFromZelda
It's funny, because "Galf" has the triangles on the green.

@Mop it up

Depends. What don't you like about Golf games?
10/03/17, 20:17
@ploot

Indeed it does, but measuring distance in that game is very difficult.

The rap battle, y'all. This game is hilarious.

So I beat it on Friday...100%'d, I'm pretty sure. I finished in around 18 hours.

A few bugs/glitches that are being addressed, but other than the game being easy, it's absolutely fantastic. It was basically the Mario Golf game people have been waiting for and that Camelot didn't make.

@ludist210

I agree. Wish there was more replayability besides just playing the courses, but it was great for what it was.

And yes, I played all 3 games of Galf.

@TheOldManFromZelda

Me too. Those were fun throwbacks.
