A new entry in the Super Mario series is upon is! We are just days away now from the glorious Super Mario Odyssey! Run, jump, and explore your way through plenty of 'Kingdoms' setup similarly to the great Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine! This is the Mario game everyone has been waiting for!
Check out Nintendo's now-famous Super Mario Odyssey 1:30~ long commercial!
And check out some of the glorious screens as well! Soon you'll be able to use the special mode found inside the game to pause the action at anytime for a photo, but you can also change the angle in anyway way also. Quite a neat feature.
Tried it out for a little bit yesterday! Man, I think I'd be all over this if it had come out when I was still playing the game, but I don't have much desire to stick with it right now. Awesome idea for a mode, though.
@Secret_Tunnel For me it was kind of the opposite; I don't think I would have cared very much when I was playing it the most, 'cause then I had so much other stuff to do, but now this works as an incentive for me to get back into the game and keep my platforming skills polished. Well, it worked like that for a couple of hours, anyway.
Balloon World is a good way to rack up coins quickly, for those of you who still have costumes and moons left to buy.
It's too bad you can't play the game using the photo filters, that'd be pretty trippy.
After searching for balloons in every kingdom, I would say the Metro Kingdom is by far the most problematic with balloons hidden inside solid obstacles. It seems to be the world with the most collision glitches, though I s'pose that makes some sense as it seems to have the most complex geometry. There is also a popular spot in Mushroom Kingdom with balloon inside the solid part of the bridge to the castle, but that's right by the start point so it's easy to notice those balloons are glitched. I also ran into one in Cascade and Cap Kingdoms, but I have yet to come across them in the other worlds yet. They may exist, just haven't found them yet. I've taken note of the arrow direction and distance for the glitch spots, so I can avoid the ones I know about now. Metro Kingdom is the only trouble world since there are so many glitch spots.
@Zero You have a meter telling you the distance to the balloon, and an arrow pointing you in its direction. The arrow starts to fade away when you're moving, though, so you have to use it strategically considering you're working under a time limit. You can of course also hide balloons for others to find. You have 30 seconds to run away from the starting point and hide it anywhere, as long as it's a spot that you can stand on.
Hmm, this actually sounds pretty fun. I should check it out. For some reason I had it in my mind that it was just like... run all over the place trying to find something with no hints, which would be annoying.
To add on to what @r_hjort said, if you stand still for a couple of seconds, the arrow will reappear until you move again. This eats up time of course, but can help you find a farther away balloon that's hidden by a spot with a lot of nooks and crannies.
Also of note, a finder gets one-third more time as the hider got to hide the balloon, so even if their movements were perfect when they hid the balloon, the finder can make a mistake here or there and still get to it. For example, if it took the hider 15 seconds to hide the balloon, the finder will get 20 seconds to search for it.
In both modes, every three coins you collect gives you one more second, so it helps to know where any nearby stashes of coins may be.
@Zero Also, picking up coins can extend your timer when looking for balloons. It is good fun actually, and a really good fit for the game. Just sucks about the asshats that have gone and placed some balloons out of bounds or clipped through solid objects.
EDIT: Beaten to it.
EDIT 2: Oh, the coin thing is for both modes? I stand corrected! For some reason I hadn't understood that.
Yeah, I don't think Luigi fully explains everything, so I had to figure out some of it through observation.
If you see a low time that seems impossible to reach within the time given, the hider probably collected a buncha coins. I've seen this in Wooded Kingdom as there are a couple of spots near the start with a cache of coins.
From what I can tell, after the first time one of your own balloons is popped, it will remain up for play but you will no longer receive coins when someone tries it. So you'll have to hide a new one if you want more coins from it. Because of this, whenever I go for a friend's balloon I hit the "retry" button at least once, to give them some more coins before popping it.
I have hidden one in every kingdom, so be on the lookout!
