Seriously Clicky Sticks suck ass. How am I supposed to be effective in full combat if I keep going into a fucking crouch?

Clicky sticks are the WORST!!! This is my constant problem as well.

@TheBigG753

I got it a while back but I was wearing something else. I switched to it to up my defense in a tough fight and forgot all about it when I saw the numbers.

It's funny, there's nothing in the inventory description.

Same, except I keep whipping out the Sheikah Slate mid-battle, which is even more distracting!

I do not like those clicky sticks, Sam-I-Am.

The only issue I have with the clicky sticks is that they mapped Crouch to the left one instead of Sprint. I want to be able to sprint while turning the camera, dammit.
03/08/17, 16:21
@nate38 You've played Xenoblade X right? I miss that too. Technically you CAN still turn the camera while running, but only to face right in front of you. I'm getting used to it.
03/08/17, 17:20
@Zero I haven't played XBX. But L3 to sprint is pretty standard in a lot of games. Of course, L3 to crouch isn't unheard of. I'd just prefer it as sprint.

That fucking feel when you shield parry a guardian's laser beam back at it and fuck up its shit.

THAT FUCKING FEEL
03/08/17, 20:28
It's only happened a couple of times but I also don't like clicky sticks. And with the way stamina works, I'm glad that sprinting is not a click stick.

Also, this game's version of The Lost Woods, that old staple. Wow. Just.... wow.
03/08/17, 20:45
@Mop it up I saw that from afar and was like, I wonder if that's the Lost Woods? I tried gliding in and...yeah, no dice there. I went on to try other things, though I'm definitely going to scope it out more soon.

Last night I spent 90 minutes trying to do the Thundara Plains thing. Green and purple are easy enough, red and orange I am stumped. I'll come back later hopefully with better gear or something.

I was initially a bit dismayed by the sparseness of the music, but now I kind of get it. With the atmospheric sounds of nature as the main soundtrack, the player can really feel like they're organically exploring a world. An overworld theme would probably kill that silent, majestic atmosphere full of discovery and wonder.

Although it seemed silly, I can now see what Nintendo was going for when they called it an "Open-Air Adventure". BotW genuinely has a unique feel to it, even among other Nintendo games.

Superficially, it has similarities to other open-world games, but it feels totally different. It would be fascinating to see someone create a detailed comparison and break down all of the reasons why.

I finished up the last of the 4 major story points/dungeons. For those who are curious IMO I think the priority should be the ----Rito---- one. The rewards you get from that far exceeds the other 3 in usefulness/practicality.

This game is really special and quite a lot of fun to play for long marathon sessions as well as quick pick-ups.
03/08/17, 21:46
@Anand Yeah I don't know what I think about the music. I said before "I have no real opinion on it" and that feels most accurate, but that's a bit sad. I remember in Wind Waker the ocean music just felt so... ADVENTUREY! But I guess I understand the low key approach as well.

I talked about this in the other thread, but playing Breath of the Wild out in the wild is a pretty magical experience. After playing only in docked mode, the smoother framerate and tighter pixel density are super-impressive. It's amazing that such an enormous world fits into such a tiny game card, inserted into such a compact, thin little device.

@Zero
Yeah, that music was cool. It was the only good part about the sailing!

Now try to imagine that music playing while you climb mountains and shit for hours upon hours. Or any music. Even the overworld theme. It would totally change the mood of the game.

@Kal-El814
Man, this is one spoiler that I'm glad I read. I shall fear those accursed Guardians no longer! (It probably doesn't work on all of them, but...)

lol friend at work saw me play for the first time and the minute he starts watching I see something I haven't seen before show up in the world. I don't want to spoil it but I'm guessing this is a rare occurence. Let's say it was a unique creature.

Incredible. Chased it down around a mountain trying to catch up with it but it was too far away and I couldn't get to it. It was a a fucking Dragon (loooong serpent) and I saw it around that massive bridge. It was just flying around when I noticed it and tried to investigate. It went in and out of the water and slowly flew up to a fucking bunch of swirling clouds in the sky. This fucking game. Anyone else see this thing???

I really want to discuss things in this game but again I worry about spoilers for myself and others.

How do we do this? Hints?

@carlosrox

I won't check your spoiler text in case it's not what I'm thinking, but if it is, then yes, I saw it. Twice. And it blew my mind. I did the same thing as you, running around trying to somehow interact with it.

In the end, I was able to interact with it and it was just awesome. Maybe not in the context of everything but still, what a moment imo.
03/09/17, 03:00
@carlosrox

I've also seen that thing twice. The first time I saw it I was able to get close and noticed sparks coming off of its back. So naturally I wondered if it would shock me if I touched it. I flew over and dropped down on it. I won't spoil the results for you.

@V_s
Wow, sounds awesome. Gave me serious Neverending Story vibes, which is more than fine by me.

I said "fuck!" out loud when I saw it. It's incredible how something like that isn't scripted.

Just...this isn't a "normal" game at all.

THIS NEW ENEMY TYPE I FOUGHT!!!! HOLY SHIT!
03/09/17, 09:46
Haven't checked on this thread too much, as i'm trying to stay away from any/all spoilers/screenshots/temptations. BUT... jeeez. This game is just... so gooood. I'm glad i played Xenoblade X the past few months leading up to the Switch, so BotW isn't quite so overwhelming.

I'm trying to clear some of the clutter out of my Adventure Log, & started Robbie's Research. Couple mins. in, i see a shrine so i go to check it out. Got accosted by a Zora, who wants me to meet the Zora prince. Next thing i knew, I'm running along an endless trail of shock arrow-firing Lizalfos, fighting wizards(?) on a cliffside, found a Thunderblade and paraglided into the Zora's Domain(!) they gave me some awesome Zora armor. THEN: wholly unprepared, i took on a Lynel. A long, glorious Monster Hunter/SoulsBorne-style battle in what has to be my most chest-pumping triumphant moment yet. Didn't die once! Exhausted all my resources tho. Theennn: I kinda fought the Divine Beast Vah Ruta... well, fought my way inside it. So epic. So intense! Now I'm in a dungeon inside a Divine Beast. Holy shit.

The sheer scale of everything in this game is insane. The combat is so deep/rewarding/satisfying once you get the hang of it. I just had to share my latest adventure, my mind is kinda blown by how it started as a simple sidequest, on which i got hilariously sidetracked. This game is unbelievable man.

Speaking of neat one-off (?) occurrences, yesterday I saw a bright orange glow in the distance (similar to when you "pin" something) but I had no pin there. So I warped closer and followed the light to its source. What I found was a particular item that's a slight spoiler, so highlight at your own risk: a shooting star. I just find it so enchanting that this is a game where you can collect one of those.

@carlosrox
Yeah, I saw that too! Was very surprising and cool to see, and I had a similar experience as you trying to interact with it. No dice this time, but I'll give it another go next time I see it.

@vinniebrock
I just did this sequence a couple days ago! Very cool. I appreciated the Zelda-esque storytelling there and liked how you end up winning over the elder, Hylian-prejudiced Zoras.
