The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ includes Rebirth, Afterbirth, and the Afterbirth+ expansion and will be launching with the system March 3rd on both retail and digital formats.

It's cool to see this hit launch since it's generally well-received. I'll probably pass on it myself since the content and subject matter are not really my thing, but more games from the start is always good news.

Let's see if Konami can match or beat that $39.99 price with Super Bomberman R now...

PS. "6th Switch" is hard to say.

Awesome game, but I definitely won't be getting it at launch with Nicalis publishing given their track record of taking months to patch game-breaking bugs.

Still worth playing, if it's a legit version of it (though it's no Spelunky)!

I saw this announced by the creator of the game a while ago but it wasn't confirmed from a lot of places, but it's good to know it's actually confirmed now.

I'm not really into Binding of Isaac (mainly because I don't like procedurally generated anything and I hate roguelikes), but good for fans of that. Plus, I think this is the first time it's getting a physical release? I could be wrong about that though.

I'm pretty sure I got this game free on PS+ a few years ago so $40 seems kinda steep.

But I paid $40 for Steel Diver so who the hell am I to talk?

Good grief, its called "Afterbirth?" Uhhh....yuck?

@Mr_Mustache That's not an accident, the plot involves a fetus or something. It's pretty gross.

I have it actually. Tried it out. Not really my thing. Another "roguelike", I just can't get into those kind of games. Anand probably loves it. It's very original Zelda inspired, which is cool. But yeah, roguelike. Not for me.

$40 seems a bit steep? It's like $10.99 on Steam right now.

Roguelikes aren't my thing either, but the game is popular and more games is good.

@Mr_Mustache

Oh that is quite apt for the whole game. Lots of shit, aborted fetus type items, and just general gross designs. Supposedly the actual game is quite good but this art direction and theme really killed the game for me before I could get into it at all.

@deathly_hallows

I was wondering the same thing and I looked on Steam. The original is $5.50 then there is some other game called Rebirth which was more and for that there was a bundle including the Afterbirth DLC for $39.something. It seems like it is consistent with prices elsewhere. I don't know what we got on PS+.

I love The Binding of Isaac, $40 seems steep at this point.

EDIT, I missed that it had Afterbirth+, not just Afterbirth. That is more in line with current prices, my bad.

Binding of Isaac is VERY SOLID, it's just too bad they built their game around such a bizarre concept.

I really enjoy the games, but I don't fault people who shy away due to the content.

Okay, so it's not just me then.

I'd like to see Team Meat try their hand at something less...I dunno, Adult Swim circa mid-00s.

@Stephen

Yeah, wouldn't want to have anything really offensive in a game..like cleavage, or a pantyshot.

Oh man I love me some Isaac. Have 281 hours logged on Steam for the original flash version (probably more that I did offline at school) and 621 hours in Rebirth/Afterbirth/Afterbirth+/Antibirth and still counting. If you can get past the look and theming of the game, it's a hell of a lot of fun to play and will last you forever.

@Secret_Tunnel
Well considering a massive bug preventing tons of room layouts only just got fixed and said bug had been in the game since the base game came out...yeah they take way too long.

Holy cow! Holy cow! That is at least 60 times longer than I expected this game to be.

@Mr_Mustache

Those things are fine as long as they are appropriate to the scenario and game. But I'd still take them in any scenario as opposed to shooting actual excrement to search for items.

Hey afterbirth is natural. The mystery of life and all.
01/19/17, 04:36
@TriforceBun
It mostly comes from it being endlessly replayable. A youtuber I watch called Northernlion has been playing it on his channel since the flash version came out in 2011 and uploads several episodes a day. The game has a lot of content for the relatively small price you pay.
01/19/17, 05:15
Yeah but I mean Roguelike or not you're still getting to the point where you are seeing the same stuff over and over eventually.
01/19/17, 05:30
@Zero
Not really. You get to a point where everything is unlocked, but there are so many items that you will always get a different setup each time you play. Rooms you will see a lot of the same, but I am unsure at the moment how much of that was due to them bugging and not spawning some in.
01/19/17, 05:32
That's what I just said.
01/19/17, 05:33
@Zero

There are a few hundred items in the game, and they have really meaningful effects on the gameplay.

I mean yeah, it's always a twinstick roguelike at heart, but there's a lot of variation within the runs.
