I was hoping that I could pick up a copy today but it seems the stores aren't even carrying it here. Of course. I guess I'll wait next week...

I'm hoping to get it sometime this afternoon. I hope stores have it around me.

I need to beat Phoenix Wright before I delve into this though!

I totally forgot this was coming. Reviewing pretty well, supposed to be one of the better DQ games, huh? But I already have way too many RPGs to play!

Picked up my copy from GameStop today. The guy at the counter high-five'd me.

Your GameStop sounds cool. I wish all GameStops could be that cool.

My package just arrived from Amazon! Time to play!

Today is officially "Fragments of the Forgotten Past Friday." Spread the word.

@TriforceBun

Yeah, the local GameStops around me all have very friendly and helpful staff. A lot of them are Nintendo fans. Makes for a fun shopping (er, buying) experience. Like video game stores SHOULD be.

And next Friday, we can say that the it was Fragments of the Forgotten Past Friday the past Friday.

Played about 20 minutes, and already I'm impressed. Like in all the recent DQ games, the writing is top-notch. I've got a great idea of the main characters' personalities with just a few lines of dialogue, and the NPCs are similarly colorful. The lack of orchestrated music is kind of a downer, but the synth they use is at least nice-sounding (and the compositions are strong too).

I believe I may make this my first DQ ever! Gonna see if I can get it today!

I've played the shortest amounts of one of the NES games in the mid 90s, played minutes of 8, and have wanted to get into this series for a while now.
So this should be it!

And Builders looks awesome too!

Oh yeah, this reminds me I gotta stop being lazy and sell my PSX copy to fund this version.

Yup, bought it! Welcome me to Dragon Quest!

@carlosrox

Welcome to Dragon Quest! One of the most charming and reliable RPG series of all.

Where're you guys? I'm about 5 hours in, at the second unlocked island, the volcano area. So far I'm really liking it, it's a vibrant, atmospheric game with great writing and already some really good storytelling. The first major quest had a solid amount of emotion and I'm excited to get into the more in-depth aspects of the game such as the jobs and Streetpass stuff.

I have one moderate complaint so far (besides the music not being orchestrated)--it's too easy! Hope it gets tougher than it is now, because one of my favorite things about the DQ games is their difficulty. It really helps the strategic elements of the title when the monsters pose a threat, and also helps the game feel more rewarding as you get stronger and learn new things.

@TriforceBun
Sorry maaaaaannnnnnn, I was busy giving Phoenix and Apollo closure to their latest tale!
I will be picking this up tomorrow though, and diving in.

It kills me that this game is orchestrated in Japan but not here.

I'm throwing around the idea of picking this up and seeing if I can play all the way through an RPG again, but then I remember being told that VIII will be right up my alley since there isn't so much character customization.

And then what about Bravely Default? Anybody think that's a better game than DQVII?
09/19/16, 11:44
@Hinph

Bravely Default starts off good but then does something later in the game that'll probably throw you off the genre for many years.

@Hinph

If you're going to dive into a Bravely game, go with Bravely Second. That said, there's a certain level of charm in Dragon Quest that can't be matched.

Uh, so I guess that's not all that helpful. Truth be told, you can't make a wrong decision either way.

For what it's worth, I started up VII and the intro is just borderline insane with how slow it is. I was starting to wonder if this game even had battles And even when you start the actual battles and leveling up, it probably takes even longer before you actually get into the meat of things with customization which I still haven't seen. They really stretched things out in this one at the start... I just hope it picks up at a faster pace!
09/20/16, 17:42
@VofEscaflowne What you didn't like fighting the same set of 4 bosses like 5 different times?!
09/20/16, 17:47
@VofEscaflowne
Yeah, the beginning is crazy slow. I especially found no joy in going to the graveyards and getting the weapons and armor. What was the point?!
Regardless, once I got into my first Slime battle I perked up a bit.
