Pokémon Sun Review (Nintendo 3DS) ()  by

Pokémon returns on the 3DS for what seems to be the last hurrah for the system. New legendaries, new starters, new region, new modes...it's a whole new world, with a brand-new attitude! But you still gotta catch 'em all. Be the best that you can be!

This game is looking pretty neat! I like the setting and a fair amount of the Pokemon shown so far and battle royal mode looks neat.

Hey now, where's the Moon thread!?

I wonder what the differences between the two versions will be besides just Pokémon availability.

I am loving everything I have seen on Sun and Moon so far except...for the new Pokemon. Really not liking some of the new designs.

I'm so glad you can check stats and see strengths/weaknesses in the battle menu instead of trying to memorize everything.

A Meowth wouldn't let me flee a random encounter I had with it so I decided to Catch it and make it do my bidding. It certainly proved useful in the school area so it's part in my team may be more permanent then I thought.

Have you seen its new evolved form? It left me speechless.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

The Alola Persian? I'm curious as to how it looks now... can't wait to start this Monday.

So who did everyone choose as their starter?

@GameDadGrant

I'm about to go with Litten. Fire cats... Gotta do it though. Historically I've gone with Grass types.

I'm really digging this game. In a lot of ways, it's comparable to A Link Between Worlds in that it kind of subverts franchise tradition. And it's got a lovely tropical setting baybee!

@DrFinkelstein

Don't ruin it for yourself. Just dive in and see for yourself.

@GameDadGrant

I went with the grass owl. After being burned by leaving the final form of Y's grass starter a surprise, I was highly dissappointed, so I looked ahead this time and chose my favorite. Other than that I'm pretty much going into this game blind.

I probably would have chosen popplio, but I left the water type spot on my team open in anticipation of seeing a bunch of rad new fish Pokemon. To my surprise, there aren't many new water types in this region, so I've just gone with Wishcash.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule I'm using Wishiwashi myself.

@GameDadGrant I don't have a game, but I'd choose Litten, mostly because I always go with the fire type. To represent my burning passion, I s'pose.

@Mop it up

Litten has been a treat so far. Knows Ember of course but learns Lick early on which is a nice touch.

In a strange turn of events, I chose Rowlett for my starter. I usually pick the Water starter, but this time I had to go with Grass. Mostly because I think it's final form is cool-looking (it's Green Arrow!) but also because I'll get the Ash-Greninja from the demo so I'll have my Water-type "starter" covered anyway.

Of course, I'll end up getting all three starters soon, I own both Sun and Moon. Thanks to the dual-pack from Amazon.

@pokepal148

Have you found it useful? I've been making due with a Barbaroach and am about to make the switch to a wimpod.

So what do you guys think of the Festival Plaza?
11/22/16, 17:48
I've never really cared about the side gimmicks in more recent Pokémon games and this is no exception. I think having to go through a separate loading screen and exit the game world to access any of the multiplayer functions is an absolute downgrade from gen 6, but I don't really care too much.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

Yeah, I get that. On the plus side, there is a bunch of extra content available as well, most of which is beneficial to the main adventure. Accessible anywhere! Not stranded to a single town or area or PokéCenter or whatever. So that's kinda nice, I think.

Apparently there's a save glitch if you save in a pokemon center so don't do that.

@pokepal148

Thanks for the heads up!
