'Best Pokemon Ever' March Madness - Round 1A: Cascade Bracket - vote thru 3/11

Good Day or Good Eve to all you Negative Worlders and Wanderers! Today begins a valiant journey through time as we look back at various Pokemon from the vast Pokemon franchise. We'll use non-scientific polling to fill our Pokedexes with selections for each bracket and the total votes will determine which Pokemon moves forward! Only one will be crowned, The Best Pokemon Ever!  These brackets are usually very interesting and provide some good dialogue about the subject matter. I hope you all have fun talking about Pokemon and debating their strengths and weaknesses. Each poll will last roughly two days. This seemed to work just fine last time but if you anyone feels three is needed, share that thought so I may consider it. With as many rounds as there are, it's important to keep things moving! A note about selection: The selection process took place over a handful of days via the special Negative World's 'Best Pokemon Ever' March Madness: Initial Seeding: Help Wanted thread last week. Many users submitted anywhere from 30-50 submissions (and a few went well beyond that). The Pokemon with the most votes made the cut with the exception of a select few 'curve balls'. (You think those Pokeballs can be thrown around corners?) Then that final list (in order of Pokedex number) was placed inside a Randomizing List Generator. It was randomized once and then placed on the bracket. First up is the Cascade Bracket, named for the Cascade Badge earned from the spunky Misty of the Kanto Region. This first set of Pokemon finds a vast mix of Pokemon. You've got some legendaries, some starters, some fan favorites, and even some 'left-field' candidates. Who will you choose? (Be sure to tell us why in the comments along with your votes!) Mewtwo vs. Froakie Squirtle vs. Jigglypuff Piplup vs. Ludicolo Chespin vs. Espeon Jolteon vs. Bulbasaur Scyther vs. Venusaur Dragonite vs. Ho-oh Cofagrigus vs. Totodile Vote for the Pokemon that you think should win the matchup. Yes! LET THE TOURNAMENT BEGIN Mewtwo vs. Froakie Squirtle vs. Jigglypuff Piplip vs. Ludicolo Chespin vs. Espeon Joleton vs. BulbasaurScyther vs. Venusaur Dragonite vs. Ho-ohCofagrigus vs. TotodileMewtwo vs. Froakie The original legendary badass. And he's fun in Smash. Squirtle vs. Jigglypuff Turtles! Jiggly's great too, though. Piplip vs. Ludicolo I like Ludicolo in concept and name, but Piplup is a water-type, starter, and penguin, all things geared to appeal to me. Chespin vs. Espeon I was happy to get more Eevee family, but I'm not big on psychic types overall. (Plus I was an Umbreon fan, myself.) And Chespin's cute with its little hat. Reminds me of Louise Belcher! Joleton vs. BulbasaurTough call, I like that Jolteon had Pin Missile, one of the few bug-type moves worth even half a damn in gen 1. But Bulbasaur's a classic. Scyther vs. Venusaur Can't vote for two members of the Bulbasaur family! Plus, Scyther's one of the few bug types that wasn't also poison in gen 1. Dragonite vs. Ho-ohReally tough call. I like Dragonite, but Ho-oh is special because it was in the very first Pokemon anime episode, years before Ho-oh would appear in the games. That was a huge deal! Cofagrigus vs. TotodileCofagrigus looks interesting, but Totodile is a spastic Donald Duck soundalike on the anime, so I can't not vote for that. |

I really like Mewtwo, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Ho-oh, and I'm not super fond of their competition (though I do enjoy using Jigglypuff in Smash every now and then, I'm generally a fan of the Eeveelutions, and I like Chespin's final evolution), so those were easy votes for me.
While I like Piplup, I more went with it because I'm not a fan of Ludicolo at all. It's so strange to me that he went from being a lilypad to some sort of duck/aquatic pineapple for his second evolution.
I don't have a strong attachment to Totodile outside of it being a starter, but I quite like Cofagrigus's design.
Scyther vs. Venusaur was the hardest match up for me, but in the end I think I do like the ugly final evolution of Bulbasaur a little bit better than the cool-looking but useless (to me, anyway) Scyther. |

I might as well throw my two cents in here now. Mewtwo vs. Froakie Squirtle vs. JigglypuffPiplup vs. LudicoloChespin vs. Espeon Jolteon vs. BulbasaurScyther vs. Venusaur Dragonite vs. Ho-oh Cofagrigus vs. Totodile Now for thoughts... Mewtwo is a clear winner in the first match up for me. He's quite the badass and he was one of the ultimate prizes back when Red and Blue released. Froakie is cute but that's not enough. Jigglypuff has won me over because of Super Smash Bros. Plus it's got its own song! Squirtle was the most voted Pokemon in the initial seeding so it'll be interesting to see how it fares going forward. I have always thought that Ludicolo was awesome and funky. Piplup is boring in comparison. Chespin is adorable. He was my starter in that series and I never let him evolve throughout the whole game. I had someone breed me another so I could see the later evolutions. Espeon is a fine Pokémon but the Eevee line has better representation elsewhere. Bulbasaur was my first Pokémon and he always makes me happy. Again, Jolteon is neat but he's no Bulbasaur. Scyther vs. Venusaur was tough but the praying-mantis-like Pokémon won me over after thinking hard. Dragonite is my all time favorite Pokémon, the big doofus. I'll vote for him every time probably... all the way to victory! Confagrigus is a Pokémon I still can't properly pronounce but hell, it's a unique one. I'm not huge on non-animal Pokémon really but he's so different. Totodile is not my favorite water starter but unfortunately I didn't vote for my favorite of those anyway up above. @OctorockinThanks Peter! It was fun. @Hero_Of_HyruleI had to work on it in a few spurts but once I had all 64 Pokemon sprites saved with thorough file names, it went pretty smoothly.
