Final Fantasy Explorers Discussion (Nintendo 3DS) [game]

Final Fantasy Explorers on the 3DS
8.5/10 from 3 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Final Fantasy Explorers on the 3DS!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Taking Final Fantasy elements and throwing them into a game that is heavily influenced by Monster Hunter, you get Final Fantasy Explorers. Mixing in online co-op play and a ton of objectives and challenging Eidolon battles, it's bound to be an addicting title to play together with friends.

I just got this today and basically made it a blind purchase. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan so I was always curious and Monster Hunter also has its place in my gaming tastes. Seems like a great game to add to the 3DS library so far but it would be fun to set up some online matches with people here! Anyone else picking this up? The game is officially out tomorrow (January 26th) so post here if you do!

Yup, I've leveled a few monsters which I use for the assignments cause no way in hell am I going to get StreetPasses for this game. I sent out a ghost, a chocobo and a lizard on this one mission and they came back successful! So that's a win They're easy enough to level up once you get the added challenges to missions too.

Anyway, played a bunch of online yesterday with Jarsh/Marsh and kgtennispro. This game is really a lot of fun when you have a group to play with. Also unlocked the Thief and Time Mage so now my Black Mage has some support with Haste! Gravity is just hilarious too as it sucks everything in and readies enemies for my offensive spells. I switched over to a Thief to see what it can do. Probably not very effective melee wise but maybe stealing items can wield some good results. We'll see!

Sorry, lol! I'm primarily a healer in FFXIV, so it seemed only right to go White Mage in this game.

When I unlock Bard, I might swap over to that, so we can at least have a bit of variety, heh.

@GameDadGrant

I can maybe play some this afternoon. May play some tonight too depending on who's in. We had a full game going on last night, pretty fun!

I'm playing some Smash Bros. tonight, but afterwards I'll be free. I'll keep an eye on this thread for updates.

@GameDadGrant

Well if being free still counts from this time, then I could maybe play some a bit in about half an hour.

Sorry, I missed this post! My kids have been sick all week, and I think it kind of caught up with me last night. I'm not sick, but I had to crash early because I wasn't...feeling right. Something was off.

Feel better this morning, and I may play some of this with Ninsage tonight. I'll let this thread know when we start playing and all those who are interested should join!

I'm going to be playing for a while. Anyone interested teaming up online?

I have been contemplating getting this later this week, but I was unsure about some things. How are the controllers and camera for this game? I find MH4U controls perfectly on the 3ds and was wondering how FFE compares. Also, is there online matchmaking or can you only play online with friends?
01/31/16, 23:35
@Scrawnton

The game controls fine for the most part. What gives me the most trouble is how the game has you choose either large or small targets via the touch screen. I'm not a big fan of dirtying that on the 3DS by using my fingers And sometimes even though you're right next to a target and you try to lock on, it'll keep targeting one that's not even near you. Other than that, the controls are fine.

The camera does run into some issues though mostly if you play alone and hire monsters to fight alongside you. Some of the monsters keep crossing the camera and obstructing the view when you're running. It's not a huge problem but it's just confusing why it's even an issue.

As for online, it's actually pretty great. You can play with friends and randoms. There's plenty of options when creating or searching for a game and you can even send friend requests to strangers if you want to. I've mostly played with friends but it's been working pretty much perfectly. The only downside when playing online is that the game's performance takes a hit and you'll often run into slowdown in bigger battles. I'm not too bothered by it but I'm sure some would be.

@VofEscaflowne

I had a great time playing Friday night. I completed a bunch of quests and gained quite a few levels in a relatively short amount of time. I like that! Yet, I'm still far behind everyone else. Boo!!

I beat Ifrit in single-player, and haven't played online yet. Anyone gonna be online around 8pm Eastern tonight? 9pm is also doable.
02/01/16, 21:49
@Guillaume

I could tomorrow. 8pm is The X-Files

Okay, so here is my dilemma. I want this game. I love final fantasy still play ff14), but I can only buy one major game in february... its either this or fire emblem. I know fire emblem isnt out, but is there a real strong case for this game. Does it have legs and will it keep me around for a while?

How is the music and exploration? Does the grind pay off in which I become unstoppable eventually?

It's a date!

@Scrawnton

I still haven't unlocked/discovered all of the ways in which you buff up your character. That said, so far, the way you improve your spells/techs reminds me of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorry more than anything else. You know how you'd have to grind for souls if you wanted an effect to be more than just "almost non-existent"? That's kind of how improving your techniques feels, in this game.

So far.

@Guillaumeahh okay. so here is my last barometer question. I enjoyed FFCC on gamecube (even enjoyed the wii solo game). I loved the first FFCC on DS, but I never played the echo of times game. Any similarities between any of these games?
02/01/16, 23:43
@Scrawnton

I haven't really played the FFCC games, but from what I've heard: not really. It's really like Monster Hunter in that you've got the one town, with one counter where you accept quests, then go out with an hour-long time limit to accomplish that quest.

If you're looking for a FFCC-type game where you see new places, new towns, talks to new characters, etc… it's not really that.

I'm still early in the game, but quite honestly, I'm kind of ready to ditch it. Whether I sell it off or not depends on how much I'll like playing online.

@Scrawnton

Well it's hard to say how unstoppable you can become. The game's pretty easy at first but it's showing signs that it may become quite hard. The only way that you can strengthen your skills is by using them in battle in conjunction with these "Crystal Surges" which adds abilities to your skills if you choose to do so. It doesn't add a TON of power to them I find but it still increases their usefulness. That said, my Black Mage has the -ga line of spells (Firaga, Blizzaga, etc.) and while they're strong attacks now, I'm still only at missions that are ranked 4 stars out of the available 10 in terms of difficulty. I only have Flare and Ultima to learn so if the difficulty keeps ramping up, well I'm just curious how my character will overpower enemies later on. We'll see!

Exploration is pretty straightforward. The world isn't huge or anything but there's still some secrets you'll come across later in the game so it'll encourage revisiting certain areas. And I mentioned it in a previous post about the music but it's not excellent or anything. It's great though and there's some catchy tunes to be found. It gets the job done.
