Why not sign up for a (free) account and create your own content?
Start on the easiest difficulty for races, stay there as long as you need to.
Beastman is awesome. Well, his vehicle is, anyway.
Story mode is wayyyyyy hard and should probably be attempted only once you get good at races.
Uh... learn to use the double shoulder button super tight turn move... you will need it a lot.

Great game, amazing visuals and speed...but I sucked at it SO MUCH. I ended up trading it towards my gold Zelda GBA SP.

One of the friends I made a few years later was lamenting about how much he loved F-Zero. When he found out I had the GC version and sold it, he was livid. Apparently a new F-Zero is the one game that will convince him to get a WiiU

So it looks like just the control stick is for regular curves, the shoulder button is for tighter turns, and double shoulder button is for ~90 degree turns? And then it looks like there are a few other even more advanced moves too. Are those necessary?

I don't think that you really NEED those advanced manuevers, to be honest. Shoulder button turns and offensive moves were enough to get me by.

Do you mean Level 1 of Story Mode, by the way? Story Mode is a real bitch. It's easily the hardest part of the game. It may seem impossible, but it isn't. You just have to figure out the strategy and then execute it perfectly. When you do play it, take each level one at a time, start on Easy, and then proceed to Medium and Hard during the first play session. But I wouldn't advise starting with Story Mode.

Start by beating some GPs. Find a car that you like and a difficulty that seems doable, and just start winning some cups. If you're having trouble, look up some custom car combos, because some of them totally break GP mode and make the challenge trivial. Assassinating people is also a good way to ensure victory. Look for choke points and spin, spin, spin. I almost always had more than a hundred point lead by the last track of the cup, basically guaranteeing victory if I kept from exploding. The reason is because Amusement Vision didn't use Nintendo's standard cheat-y AI, whereby the computer player who currently has the highest standings will ALWAYS perform best. So the GP Mode of F-Zero X was actually much harder, for various reasons.

Anyway, master the GPs, sprinkle in some Death Races and Time Trials (these can also be completely broken, Mario Kart DS-style), and then play Story Mode last.

I'd advise not looking up those exploits unless you're having serious problems. They kind of ruin the fun.

Also, multiplayer will never, ever be fun, because every single person you try to play will be either way worse or way better than you (a la Wave Race: Blue Storm, the other most inaccessible Nintendo multiplayer game).

I saw someone quote an interview from Miyamoto yesterday where he compared Pikmin to "F-Zero meets Saving Private Ryan," which made me want to break this out again.

...I don't think there's a single Nintendo game in my collection that I'm chipping way at more slowly! At this rate, mastering this game is gonna be a half-century long quest for me. My Wavebird's stick is getting loose, I might need to switch to the Smash Ultimate Gamecube controller I got a couple years ago...

It's funny how similar it feels to Super Monkey Ball. The soundtrack, the menus, you can really tell that this was the same developer, haha.

And it's also funny how Nintendo still gives so much love to the F-Zero franchise despite not putting a new game out in 15 years. A mini-game in Nintendo Land, huge representation in Mario Kart 8, HUGE representation in Smash... Captain Falcon is more of a Smash character than an F-Zero character at this point! We've gotta be due for a new F-Zero soon... right?

The Mario Kart engine could allow for some eye-searing visuals...

But they're probably just working on the next Mario Kart. Actually, it would be cool if Nintendo went full Wipeout and mixed them.

Also, it seems like Online Play alone could be F-Zero SX's raison d'etre.

Mario Kart might literally sell a hundred times better than F-Zero. I'd like to see Nintendo fund another arcade racer, though, since the genre has nearly disappeared. Maybe draft Sumo Digital/Shin'en and ride their asses to ensure the quality level?

Nintendo should really just let Shin'en make an F-Zero game. Clearly they want to. And I think they've got the development chops to make a really good one, if not a great one.

So I just learned that if I had a more capable PC, I could play this game in high definition stereoscopic 3D on the 65" and play with a Wavebird. I always wanted it ported to 3DS, but this would be much better.

That sounds awesome! How...uh, *capable* of a PC would be required to achieve this?

Also, while I believe F-Zero GX would have been LOVELY to have on 3DS...I think I would have preferred a remake of F-Zero X on 3DS instead. And maybe an HD remake of GX to have been on Wii U or Switch (there's still time for the latter to happen!).

Speaking of titles that I feel should have been on 3DS...I think I have an idea for a thread stirring in my brain right now. Stay tuned...!

I think somebody made some hack-y build with VR support, though I'm not sure if there has been any ongoing work on it or how well it works. I wonder if I could play F-Zero GX in VR without getting really sick though! There's some loops in a kart racer I recently got on Quest 2 that are pretty intense and that game runs at a fraction of the speed. I usually only play a few races before taking a break.


I don't think it needs to be anything too crazy. My PC is super old and I don't really touch it for much of anything these days unless I need Windows for something my tablet or phone can't do.

My phone and Shield TV can run quite a few Gamecube games on the Android fork of Dolphin, but F-Zero GX is one of those games that needs more power... I think the newest phones can handle it. It's possible that my Quest 2 can as well but I don't think I'd be able to see any of the games on stereo 3D since the emulator only does the side-by-side thing. My tv can convert that into 3D though. I had Wind Waker working well enough to see what it would be like and it looked rad but wasn't at a strong enough frame rate to actually play it on the Shield.

Oddly enough, Wipeout Omega Collection was both incredible and non-nauseating in VR.

Dang, sounds like a lot of fun if that's the case and F-Zero should be similar. I'm not too afraid of a little motion sickness, so I'm always willing to try. Flying games are so far the only ones to get bad enough to make me stop after a few minutes.
