Hype is over, someone make a Game thread!

Done! I'll spiffy thus one up a but when I get back from out of state. Here for some sudden family business.

However, my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X is arriving tomorrow and I am stoked! The reviews have been generally positive. I guess the game lacks slightly in areas but they can be overlooked for the sheer density and fun this game has. Looking forward to diving into it next week. Hopefully when I return sunday.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@Mop it up Yeah but at this point in the game I doubt the rewards for 1 star missions and such are doing much for me anyway. I'm just obsessive.

@Zero Perhaps, but they could lead to opening up better ones, and they at least allow time to pass for you to receive more funds from your probes. And probably some other helpful things I'm forgetting. Raising affinity?
01/12/17, 01:02
I hope affinity with tons of characters isn't necessary because I stick to the same party members all the time. I'm not going to level up a bunch of scrubs!

@Zero

Haven't you numerous times on this board positively expressed your thoughts on some aspects of Communism?

Share the wealth, man!

@Mr_Mustache These are fictional characters! They take away from me going out and doing nice things for nice real life people! So really the more I play Xenoblade the worse of a Communist I am.

Hmm, on the other hand it keeps me from buying a bunch of new games, which I guess is sticking it to Capitalism.

@Zero

Yeah, buy less games. And level everyone up so they can wear the best pants.

@Zero I feel like for the most part, your characters don't really matter all that much because so much of the combat is done with Skells. I have a ton of characters that I never really touched at all. As long as who you have is good by the end of the game, you should be fine.

I definitely found most of the other characters in this game to be pretty underwhelming. I think I stuck with Yelv as my fourth, with Elma and Lin and myself as the others. Not very creative, but I never felt like I had much room to experiment. The game is pretty long as it is, let alone having to figure out how to use 10 other party members.

I'm actually a bit confused about the leveling system now that Skells are a thing. Character levels max out at 60, right? But that doesn't matter because... Skells? But how do you get higher level Skells? My characters are all close to level 50 now but my Skells (as well as the only ones in the shop) are all level 30.

Once you hit 60, is there even still much of a point to do a bunch of side quests? Do Skells level up separately or something? Does your Skell power depend upon your character's level? CONFUSING.

Skells don't level up. When you're level 50 you can start buying level 50 Skells (but you have to level up one of the industries too). Then you want a superweapon or two. At level 60 you can buy (or maybe just craft) level 60 Skells, but you also have to finish all the story missions. Then you can start grinding and make some frankenskells that can handle any monster in the game.

Then once you get used to riding around in an invincible Skell the game throws some foot-only missions at you (but I don't think they're mandatory).

Level up... an industry?

What the. Why. Does. This. Game. Do. This.
01/12/17, 18:17
You gotta spend your (whatever the probes give you besides money) on something
01/12/17, 20:19
Two types of currency yeah that isn't confusing.

Hmm, I think I know how to level up industries. Just haven't done it in awhile.

@Zero It's called capitalism you dirty rotten commy!

C'mon, man, you invest in the industries, and then you get better equipment from them, etc.

Some day (not really), I'm going to sit next to you and watch you play a game start to finish, and witness you completely miss 20% of the game somehow. Its like playing Monster Hunter; "theres...online??" I don't know how you got as far as you did WITHOUT investing... Thats bonkers, bro.

And its great, you get sweet new pants when you upgrade the industries, and then level up, and then you hand those down to your best friend Yelv, and you guys are the same size. Totally rocks, man.

Well looks like I gotta finish this at some point. Hopefully before Zelda because that will take me a while to finish. Then Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and...geez Nintendo what are you trying to do to me!
01/13/17, 10:52
Yeah I was gonna ask, now with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is there any point to playing this one? I hear X is completely unrelated to the original game, so if 2 blows X out of the water then I'll skip X.
01/13/17, 11:03
X is a very different game compared to the others in setting and how it plays. It's much more of a gameplay, open world focused experience. Story wasn't very strong (or at least up until the point I got up to) but it was hella fun to play.
01/13/17, 11:06
Yeah, if Xenoblade 2 is going to be structured more like the first game, then it will be a bit more linear with more of a story focus. I mean, I'm sure it will still be loaded with side stuff, but probably not to the extent and depth of X, and the world won't be quite as open. May not have the whole resource aspect that's on the GamePad either.

I would say, if you can still budget a 100+ hour game into your time management, X is still worth playing even with a sequel coming. And that sequel is probably at least one year off from NA, maybe even more, so if you're in the mood for a big RPG now, then yeah, go for it.
01/13/17, 20:42
It's probably worth playing for the Skells. The game completely changes once you get a Skell, and significantly changes when you can fly your Skell
01/13/17, 21:26
Hmm, apparently I'm not the only one who thought that this one side quest involved incest.

Basically, these creatures usually reproduce asexually and spawn into two sex-less creatures but this time one spawns a creature of an (implied) other gender and then starts having feelings for (her?)

Ew.
