Hype is over, someone make a Game thread!

Done! I'll spiffy thus one up a but when I get back from out of state. Here for some sudden family business.

However, my copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X is arriving tomorrow and I am stoked! The reviews have been generally positive. I guess the game lacks slightly in areas but they can be overlooked for the sheer density and fun this game has. Looking forward to diving into it next week. Hopefully when I return sunday.

WTF is a digital manual?!!? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

If you can't do most of the tyrants yet then it's basically placing probes and collecting treasure? Ug. That shouldn't be the core of a game.

@VofEscaflowne

From what I've gathered regarding targeting, you target what you are facing. Facing the right forepaw? That's what your target. Facing the hind quarters? That's what you target. It's difficult to stay targeted on that one thing though, because the monsters are constantly moving. I guess it makes sense you can't lock on to one particular part and expect to hit it from anywhere. You can't hit a monster's butt by looking it in the face.

At least that's how I perceive the target system.

@Zero

I don't really know if it's the core of the game as in it forces you to do it to progress. But either way, you're going to want to do it to add fast travel points and place probes to increase your revenue and mining later on so that you can purchase and upgrade your gear. It's more of a way to have you learn those basics I guess... but without explaining them

@TheOldManFromZelda

Yeah that's what I sort of gathered but it still doesn't explain the wildly varying damage output. I did see that the weapon's stability will determine if your damage is more within a tighter range or if you vary from high to low but it surely doesn't count for the fact that one time I was doing less than 100 damage and then back off into the 1000+ against lower level enemies.

@TheOldManFromZelda

If you press down the right analog stick, you stay locked on that part, though. No?

@VofEscaflowne

Ohhhhh, thanks. I was pressing + and all kinds of things and just NOTHIN'.

@TheOldManFromZelda

I still don't see you in the Friends List..

@VofEscaflowne

Don't the enemies have little icons next their special attacks? I'm probably week against lightning because I ALWAYS GO DOWN.

@Zero

You increase your Field Level by increasing your BLADE Level. Keep doing a good job at your..job, and then talk to Elenora. Every time you go up a level, she allows you to put a Level towards Mechanical, Archaelogical, or Biological. I'm 3/2/2 respectively, and I just added my last point in that group to Biological. Lots of 1's out there.. (Whereas the other two seem to have a lot more 2s and 3s)

Oh, someone else already told you..

And a lot of those missions will complete automatically. You can set your destination for one Mission, but I believe you'll still have little green icons above the guys you need to kill for ANY of your missions.
12/18/15, 21:14
@VofEscaflowne Hmm I was just assuming that every new story mission would be locked out before surveying X amount of land but to be fair that has only happened to me the once so maybe it was a poor assumption.

@Mr_Mustache Yeah I think I understand the field level thing now. I DEFINITELY appreciate that the game puts the little icons over any enemy involved in any of your quests, that has saved me a lot of time.
12/18/15, 23:38
@Mr_Mustache

Hmm, maybe? I never noticed with the onslaught of screen clutter

@Zero

Yeah I don't think I've seen it since. Some will require you to do certain affinity quests which of course doesn't have an easy way to figure out where they are, unless if I'm missing it. So you have to check out every area until you find it... fun!
12/18/15, 23:48
Hey...does anyone know what happens when that Squad Thing fills all the way up?? Does it just start over? Is something FINISHED? I don't know!

@VofEscaflowne

I noticed it when something was kicking my ass. There was a huge LIGHTNING BOLT right next to it, not to be confused with the "I can hear youuuu" icon. I think one of those..spider-sac guys had it to when he was doing a Thread Attack. They gotta give this info in the Monster Index, don't they?
12/18/15, 23:52
@VofEscaflowne Ah that's a relief. I guess based on the direction the game seemed to be going "survey a bunch of new ground" totally seemed like the thing that would keep leading to more progress.
12/19/15, 00:16
Yeah, the..scirpico? spider things have Razor Thread which is lightning based. I was fighting a Tyrant in Noctilum (someone the Subterranean...though he was up in a tree, that asshole..), and I could SEE him, but I couldn't get face to face with him. I spent probably a legit hour trying to get some branches and/or flowers to make contact with him, and the closest I could get was in some water looking up at him. I came back around the area later and found a ledge probably 50? feet away from him..close enough for gunfire!!

So we make contact, and I'm just shooting a beam at him the entire time (training up in the Beam / Knife class so I can fulfill a mission for about 300 gold, ugh), and he's firing infrequent Razor Threads back at me while the rest of my party just watches. Took probably close to 10 minutes, but he went down. TAKE THAT.

Finished Chapter 4, and it looks like a bunch of my current Affinity Missions REQUIRE Chapter 5, so thats where I'll go.

@Zero
Zero, suggested Field Levels update before you get in too far. In order, this is what I'd suggest:

Lv2 Mechanical
Lv2 Archaelogical
Lv3 Mechanical
Lv2 Biological
Lv4 Mechanical (the huge box that we can see in the Administrative District is NOT worth it..)

Lv3 Archaeological is my next one. I got blocked multiple times on some boxes in Oblivia.

I might even take that BEFORE Lv4 Mechanical, knowing what I know now. A lot of other shipping containers around the joint had some pretty sweet duds in 'em though! This one was fell flat, unless it was FULL of XP and I didn't even realize. I was getting like 2 XP a fight for a while.. My lower level schlocks were taking the lion's share while the 3 beasts in my unit split 6 points.

Did you register him in the BLADE deal? I guess this can go in the other thread.... If you're going to answer, you can answer me over there with a cross-thread / cross-promotional reference.

What is the BLADE deal?! I mean obviously my character became part of BLADE, since I think you have to become part of BLADE to progress? I don't know about any BLADE deal beyond that?!

@Zero

Alright, I had to go back and read.

You know..Armory Alley? It has (on the right and left) a place where you can BUY stuff or INVEST basically? And if you come OUT of Armory Alley (turn right when you're next to the INVEST place, and walk to that next main drag), and you get out there and there are two more places (out of the Alley), one on the left has Elanora and some MISSIONS, and then there is another small console to the right of that which doesn't look very important? There you can REGISTER your character to show up in online stuff. I registered mine last night, and someone on here, I can't remember who the username is, but their character is Mara Jade. They took 'ol Rob out for a spin, and I got some XP and crap out of it. Woo hoo! I think you can pull them directly out of there (not sure if you can look for FRIENDS exactly), or you can just talk to them when they're standing around ("Need any help?" And then you say "Scout this BLADE" or whatever) and add them to your party.

In closing, I'd like to return the favor to Mara Jade. If someone can tell me EXACTLY how to do it without too much hassle, that'd be cooool. (And can you tell the game "I want to hang out HERE"? I've noticed some people way the heck out in the boonies. I wanna sit on a rock, too!)
12/20/15, 07:43
Oh yeah I haven't done anything related to online stuff yet.
12/20/15, 07:57
@Zero

Just go REGISTER your character. YOU don't have to do anything. And for the "online" stuff...I'm yet to fight side-by-side with anybody, so I think I was mistaken in the online possibilities. Which is a bummer. Honestly.

Don't get this confused with the stuff in the Barracks, thats something else. Registering your character right of Eleanora doesn't do anything to impact you negatively at all (YOU won't even notice a difference, I think), and you can update your Registered Avatar anytime you want.
12/20/15, 15:24
@Mr_Mustache
I'm glad you got some good stuff from my use of your avatar. You avatar is always hanging out right in fount of my barracks. I will probably give you another spin today, I want to level up to 30 before starting Chapter 6.
12/20/15, 16:27
I'm back in "love" in my love / like relationship with the game. Got to the second continent and man, it is huge and beautiful. It took me 3 hours just to get to the point in the main mission because I was running all over the place doing other stuff, including a semi-substantial multi-part side quest I stumbled upon. But that area with the HUGE twisting tree you climb and then lots of air bridges and such... wow.

@Mr_Mustache Yeah but if all it really gets me is XP and gear and stuff I'm not overly concerned because, honestly, that is one of my least favorite parts of RPGs. Maybe I'll get around to it if I'm up against a tough boss and don't want to do all of the XP grinding myself.

@gtarrant

Oh man, I hang out in front of the Barracks!? Thats where I'd hang out! I'm ALWAYS near the Barracks!

Maybe I'll take you out for Chapter 5. I guess you probably have no idea where you hang out?

@Zero

Dude. Like. Hmm. --There is no apparent downside to you Registering yourself. And its not like HEAPS of XP.
I think you should do it, I'm sure gtarrant would agree.

Played a bunch and primarily focused on exploring Primordia some more and doing sidequests. The survey rate is over 30% now... which isn't really a lot This game is so huge. There's one probe I thought I had found underground but then I couldn't find a path that would lead to it. Also can't find it above the ground so I must have missed it somewhere. Did form a huge chain with the mining probes though and maxed out the Sakuraba equipment development so that's something!

EDIT: Gotta say though that it took a while but I feel that I'm warming up to the game again. There's still many confusing things but I still feel that I have a better handle on things just by looking at monster actions and why certain things don't always work. It's still not ideal and the learning barrier is extremely high but simply looking at it as a game to explore and progress your character development and not as a story focused game at least makes me feel better overall about the direction this game took. And of course there's always the visuals. Satisfying end coming out of a waterfall cave and seeing this!

So like... dumb question maybe, but how do I heal my main character in a battle?! I swear I had a healing art but then the game wanted me to upgrade my character's uh... whatever it is called, class or something, so I did and then with the new class I started with only like two arts. Neither of them healing. That was many hours ago and I still have no healing arts.

My partners may or may not have them but I have no idea how to get them to do what I want them to do.

@Zero

I'd say go into your Arts and check what you have again. I just customized the heck out of myself and it took me from a death in a boss battle to a rather quick clean up. I picked my arts I wanted and upgraded each at least once. Man that turned the tide. Then I took out a trio of enemies 4 levels higher than me pretty easy too. Glad I finally did all that!

In other news, watching the following embedded video helped me understand this game significantly. I'm going to go watch the other videos in the playlist when I can. It's some kind of beginner's guide series they did late last month.
