Hi everyone! It's been a long road for me with Tadpole Treble, a game that's been in some form of development for a pretty healthy chunk of my life, but I'm happy to say that we're almost finished. In case you missed it before, this is an auto-runner-style game that takes place on a musical staff, with the notes being your obstacles. Barring some sort of catastrophic event, the game should definitely release in Winter 2015 for all to enjoy. And I hope you all enjoy it! My brother and I have put a ton of time (and a decent amount of our own money) into Tadpole Treble to make it the kind of game we'd want to play. That means music we like, characters we like, a range in challenge (standard difficulty to beat, high difficulty to 100%) and a wide range of unlockables and even a full song/stage creator. Here, a back-of-the-box feature list for you: -Over a dozen main stages, each with their own unique song -Boss stages -A in-game market area -Comic-style cutscenes -Unlockable goodies like a Smash Bros-esque Bestiary, a Music Player, and Commentary Tracks for each stage -Four fully-sung songs with lyrics -Online leaderboards for both high and impressively low scores -A song-creation mode that you can also play through, then share with others via QR Codes:The process for making this game has been extremely tricky. We had to time our Kickstarter right and stay on top of contacting people to help it reach its goal. We also repeatedly reached out to Nintendo to get approved for the Wii U, and once they finally approved us, I screamed at them. The bug-testing process is totally arduous, being a constant cycle of "two steps forward, one step back," and there've been moments where my relationship with my brother had gotten pretty strained. Despite all this, we're still kicking and are happy with how things have turned out! If you have any questions about the development of this game, or various included features, or about how Nintendo handles indie team relations, feel free to post them in this thread! So, I only played the first two levels, but as a rabid fan of both music and amphibians, this game is blowing my freakin' mind! I'm the kind of gamer that tends to avoid info/videos/etc on games that I know I'm going to eventually play. I like to go in as fresh as possible, ya know? So I honestly haven't seen all that this game was ramping up to be. HOLY CRAP! I'm blown away, T-Bun. This is like... brilliance. As I said on facebook, I won't really have time to fully dive in until the fall semester settles down. But I can't wait! The depth this game appears to offer looks like it is truly of Nintendo-level quality. Quite a first impression, dude. High praise from this guy. Also, my two female toads, Holly and Golly (short for Goliath - she's a big girl) had to take a turn... They were very pleased to see some female amphibian representation, but are wondering if Baton is a frog or a toad? Probably a frog from the coloration. I hope some of the Kickstarter swag ends up for sale down the line. I'm thinking I'm gonna want that mini plush and the guide ... and the soundtrack... and... yea... I'm hyped! |

Matt, I had no idea you was developing this game with your brother. I really never paid any attention to the thread and I have not been frequenting NW or other boards much, until very recently. I saw the game in the eshop and checked out some reviews and videos on youtube and I saw the one with you and your brother, it was about five minutes long. I was like, I know that dude, he posts on NW.
I bought the game on the Wii U and played thru the first five pages. I love the game and so far, love all the music, which really adds much personality to the game. I suck at this game, plus I keep forgetting to use my invincible power, once activated.
My best grade is a B, a few C's and a few D's..and thats on the normal mode. Well, looks like that will just increase replay.
I noticed you mentioned the game has online leaderboards. Does that include the Wii U version? I only ask cause I didn't notice the option in any of the menus, while I was playing. I unlocked the first three extras, music player, first bestiary, & I forget what the last one. Is the online leaderboards an unlockable?
Just a few quick impressions, the game is gorgeous, I love the way the story unfolds throughout the game via comic book art style. The music/songs for the levels are really catchy, they really help to immerse you in the experience. I'm assuming that the game starts oit on normal difficulty and that the harder difficulty is unlocked, but don't let that fool you, the game is very challenging. I've actually died several times. Its going to take a while to receive the top grade for each level.
As a whole, I honestly feel I'm playing a game ttat was developed by a AAA team that has been in the business for a long time. You can tell that alot of time, care and attention was poured into this game. I read a comment somewhere that stated the person felt like he was playing a Nintendo developed game. I felt the same way & I also got this weird vibe I was experiencing something from the Pixar team. No, the graphics are nothing like a Pixar movie, but just the overall feel, sound & adventure of getting the little tadpole home just has that Pixar story feel.
If anyone is on the fence about buying this game, I guarantee you will not regret your purchase. Great job, Matthew! I hope the game becomes a success. It is definitely worth the price of admission! |
