The SUPER OFFICIAL thread for indie games on Nintendo platforms ("Nindies")

"Nindies", what a super creative name.

I feel like I always want to talk about indie games on Nintendo platforms but without having to create new game threads for games that will get like one or two posts and disappear... and there is no one place to do it. Well, NOW THERE IS.

But I don't really have a current topic at the moment so I'm just going to link a few things (some only loosely connected) and then ask a question.

Top 10 3rd Party Wii U eShop Games

DrFinkelstein Reviews the Nindies@Home Demos!

I was at Bit Bash, Chicago's First Indie Games Festival, and It Was Awesome

Chicago Indie Video Game Developers and Games That You Should Check Out

Do you think that Indie Gaming will be the true battleground of next-gen consoles?

Anyway feel free to use this thread to discuss any and all indie games on Nintendo platforms or indie game related topics that relate to Nintendo platforms.

And now my simple question. What are YOUR favorite indie games on Nintendo platforms?

To actually answer my own question, a few of my favorites that are sort of obvious picks...

World of Goo
Cave Story
BIT.TRIP series
Shovel Knight
VVVVVV
Shantae: Risky's Revenge

And some awesome games that not as many people seem to have played, or atleast, not on Nintendo platforms...

Little Inferno
Fluidity (ok not technically indie since Nintendo funded it, but they're an indie studio in general...)
Lone Survivor
The Swapper
LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias (LostWinds 2)
Thomas Was Alone
Stealth Inc 2 (provided you don't run into the game killing glitch)

My favorite "Nindies" include:

AiRace: Speed/Xeno
Azure Striker Gunvolt
Gunman Clive
Liberation Maiden
Mighty Flip Champs!
Mighty Switch Force!
Mutant Mudds
Shantae & The Pirate's Curse
Shovel Knight
SteamWorld Dig
Witch & Hero
Woah, Dave!
Xeodrifter

I feel a little guilty putting WayForward's stuff up there, since they barely qualify for an indie. But barely qualifying is qualifying, so...there they are.

Nindies that I like, huh? Hmm...

Shovel Knight
Shantae & The Pirate's Curse
SteamWorld Dig
Mighty Switch Force!
VVVVVV
Liberation Maiden
Toki Tori 2+
NightSky
Little Inferno
The Fall

I could go on...but I'm struggling to remember all of the great ones that I've played over the past few years.

Who else is excited that Tomorrow Corporation's Human Resource Machine is coming to Wii U? I'm all over that.

@ludist210

Oh! Toki Tori! Good call.

@GameDadGrant

Yeah, it's underrated. The puzzles in the second one are very obscure, but solving them felt so rewarding...great little game. It's too bad we'll never see another one.

@nate38

MotoHeroz was BOSS. Great game.

Oh! Does Shin'en's FAST: Racing League count? Because I'll vouch for that one all day long. Great WiiWare game.

@ludist210 Did I know this was coming to Wii U? SUPER pumped. Looks like exactly my type of game from one of my favorite developers.

Extreme Exorcism coming to the Wii U next week (Sept 23!) Launch trailer!

Single player, co-op, competitive death match... seems like it could be a meaty game!

@Zero Neat! Freedom Planet was my #2 game last year (behind Crypt of the Necrodancer) so I'm pumped for more. With Noitu Love the other day and now a Freedom Planet sequel, Wii U eShop's got some things to look forward to.

Looks like the Wii U just stealth got a decent Super Mario 64 style game?

I was wondering why I hadn't heard of this release and then I noticed ludist missed a week of eShop releases WHAT'S UP WITH THAT MAN?!

I always hesitate a bit to try out 3D indie games for some reason, but this one looks fun?

Hyper Light Drifter aka the game I keep nominating for GOTY Wii U eShop most wanted and next to no one else votes for so it doesn't make our GOTY lists... just released on PC and apparently it is pretty awesome. Getting lots of great reviews.

I hope the Wii U version is still coming, in February he said it was "in limbo".

"“However, due to ongoing internal contractual issues beyond our control between the platform holder and engine developer, we just don’t know when or if this situation will have a good resolution.

“We are looking into the options available and doing what we can to help push the issue.”

Ug.

Anyway let's hope for the best. Looks pretty awesome. Like a more action based Link to the Past style game.

I just beat Hyper Light Drifter yesterday, actually. I quite liked it and am planning to go back and comb through it to look for the stuff I missed (which was apparently plenty). Hope it does come to Wii U.

@Zero

That looks fantastic. Had I known about it I would have voted for it as a GOTY Most Wanted contender. Beautiful trailer. Cool premise. Like the look.

Translation: "We were hoping that YoYoGames and Nintendo would work out a solution for proper GameMaker: Studio Wii U export within the two years we announced the game and it came out, but apparently that would be TOO CONVENIENT FOR ALL DEVELOPERS"

@Secret_Tunnel Is that the issue?! I'd say about a 1% chance it is still coming to Wii U then, bah.
