I really need to get into this series, though. Haven't played any of the games. Would you guys recommend them? I LOVE the Phoenix Wright series, but was bored by Hotel Dusk and only liked Ghost Trick okay.
While I'm really, really looking forward to this...I can't help but feel a bit apprehensive. I freakin' LOVED 999. That game's atmosphere, pacing, dialogue...and the way they doled out *just* enough information to keep you guessing was spot on. And the big reveal was mind-blowing.
Now, VLR was all of that as well...except for the last part. I mean, that was great too. But it lost some "oomph" for me because...well, I knew *something* was up. I didn't know what exactly, but I knew there was more to the situation because I played 999 before. So that whole "OMG, THIS is what was really going on?!?" feeling was totally (er, mostly) lost on me. I knew something was coming. I just wasn't sure what. In 999, I didn't know what was coming, so it was all a huge surprise. It was shocking. But the second time? Not so much.
I'm "afraid" that will happen for this new game, too. How can it not?
@GameDadGrant I understand what you mean, because we sort of expect something to blow us away. It's the M. Night Shyamalan effect. The first time is surprising, from there you just end up expecting a "twist." Then he makes The Last Airbender and you just want to cry.
That said, I thought the reveal of Junpei was pretty surprising. Also the fact that you were ollllld.
Yea, I know what you mean. During the second game my twist-sense was tingling the whole time and that, y'know, made it not AS mind-blowing. Still, I think that even though you know *something* is coming, the twists themselves are unexpected ones. So, y'know.... takemymoney.jpg
Also, we can't forget how much I like to use spoiler tags when there's no need to at all! Wasn't that surprising??
