Super Mario Maker is a new title from Nintendo where, for the first time ever, you will be able to create your own levels on your own console. The game released on September 11th, 2015. Through Nintendo Directs, Nintendo Treehouse videos, and the Super Mario Maker website, there's quite a bit of information out now which is really showcasing how deep the creation tools are. Four Main Themes To Choose From! Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. UWhat's really incredible is the slew of classic objects found inside. When an item wasn't part of a previous or later game theme, Nintendo has taken the time to make new sprites to allow you to always be able to switch on the fly from theme to theme. Some classic objects include, Goombas, Monty Moles, Invisible Blocks, Flagpoles, and so much more! The man who was alongside Miyamoto all these years with the Super Mario series, Takashi Tezuka, is the producer of this game. Koji Kondo, acclaimed Nintendo-music composer, is again the lead composer of this game. I can't imagine we'll see much, if any, new music but it's great that any new renditions of classic themes will be handled by the father of it all. I am looking to collect data on Negative World's levels we create so if you post a level in the thread, I would sincerely and greatly appreciate if you filled out this brief survey about it so the submissions will be collected and we can ensure that your levels are played for a long time to come as part of the Negative World collection. To view the levels, simply click on the link above the survey. @Anand Well, you just need to find the right community to get some good plays on more challenging levels. I've started following some makers I found on places like Reddit and GameFAQs, and discovered a few other makers through the game, and they're a better community than just randoms. It's nice. In any case, I typically try to land a level in the Normal category. Why? I find that the majority of levels end up in Expert for one reason or another, and then all of the auto, music, and other type of levels are in the Easy category. So, Normal has the least amount of competition, which in turn means a higher chance of someone coming across it. Making a level that's challenging, but fair and fun is always a difficult thing to do however, and it's all too easy to make something too tough because a level will always be way easier to its creator than anyone else. I still fall into that trap now and then, but I've gotten a lot better about it. I've always liked level creation so I've had no trouble remaining interested. It also helps that I started using the homebrew NSMBWii editor back in 2010, which I eventually used to make a whole new NSMBWii game, so I already had a lot of ideas and knowledge to pull from in Super Mario Maker. The ten tips in the manual are things I had already learned in my time, and those are certainly ten good things to follow. @carlosrox @DrFinkelstein I can't blame you guys, making a good level does take a lot of work and time. I've already clocked in 800 hours and I don't even have 100 uploads yet. Really makes you appreciate the effort Nintendo puts into level design. |

@pokepal148Well, I'm still getting stages from the "Top-Rated" list of 100 levels made from the Wii U version. I can download those still, and hey. Those are supposed to be the best of the best, yeah? Plus, I'm pretty sure those rotate in-and-out as new stages are made and rankings are changed. Plus the 3DS version has the 100 unique stages made from Nintendo themselves just for this 3DS version. So at the very least, I've got over 200 stages to play out-of-the-box. Plus, isn't the "100 Mario Challenge" also made of randomly selected stages from online? Yeah, I don't think I'll be missing out on much, LOL. Besides, I get StreetPasses all the time, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to get new stages that way, too. Plus (and most importantly) I can share and trade with my kids (and even collaborate on the creation of stages!) with this version as well. So yeah. I'm all set. |
