Super Mario Maker Discussion (Nintendo Wii U) [game]

Super Mario Maker on the Wii U
9.1/10 from 22 user ratings

Welcome to the official discussion thread for Super Mario Maker on the Wii U!

To start, please add this game to your log, add it to your collection (if applicable), and (when you are ready) rate it using the link above!

Super Mario Maker is a new title from Nintendo where, for the first time ever, you will be able to create your own levels on your own console. The game released on September 11th, 2015.

Through Nintendo Directs, Nintendo Treehouse videos, and the Super Mario Maker website, there's quite a bit of information out now which is really showcasing how deep the creation tools are.

Four Main Themes To Choose From!
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. U

What's really incredible is the slew of classic objects found inside. When an item wasn't part of a previous or later game theme, Nintendo has taken the time to make new sprites to allow you to always be able to switch on the fly from theme to theme. Some classic objects include, Goombas, Monty Moles, Invisible Blocks, Flagpoles, and so much more!

The man who was alongside Miyamoto all these years with the Super Mario series, Takashi Tezuka, is the producer of this game. Koji Kondo, acclaimed Nintendo-music composer, is again the lead composer of this game. I can't imagine we'll see much, if any, new music but it's great that any new renditions of classic themes will be handled by the father of it all.

I am looking to collect data on Negative World's levels we create so if you post a level in the thread, I would sincerely and greatly appreciate if you filled out this brief survey about it so the submissions will be collected and we can ensure that your levels are played for a long time to come as part of the Negative World collection. To view the levels, simply click on the link above the survey.

Did you find the coins though?

Hey Fink! Sorry to bother you, but could you please delete my original "The Lost Temple Treasure Room"?

I created a REDUX version that plays a bit better. I think I'll do the same with my airship level, "Above or Below" but I'll keep both of those up for funsies.

I made another level! Here's its ID - C363-0000-0027-1813

It's an underwater level. While it does lean on some trial and error, I think the hurried pace makes it exciting.

I challenge you all to Gingo's Multipath Castle. Whoa. It was tricky every second. I spent a long time on it and did manage to beat it.

So bob-ombs destroy certain blocks and bowser (in the clown car) throws them?

I'm sure this combination will in no way be used in one of my levels.

@pokepal148

Play the above level and you'll see interesting ways that stuff is exactly used... *shivers*

Have you guys played The Great Escape by Crazykg? It's packed with ideas and has a nice flow to it. Check it out!

Though my last puzzle stage wasn't too tough when you know what to do, I finally made one that is just completely casual fun.

@Smerd

I know I'm pushing hard on the spreadsheet thing but are you planning to keep posting your levels in the form? That's where I've been going to make sure I play everyone's levels, and then I don't need to keep up with this thread per-say.

That said, I just spend hours making this new level and I really should be sleeping… I'm supped to go see an early-AM movie in about 9 hours and I have to go try and get BeardedNerd the Splatoon 3-Pack beforehand.

That said… I present to you all…

Donut Underground 1

I hope you all like it. I hope you all can beat it. There's only a few places to get tripped up really… it's intended to be more for fun than for glory.

I'm now just checking if anyone I'm following has anything new. Is there any reason we should post our new stage codes in the thread now?

Ah well, I will at least once more.

Yoshi's Soggy Donut Flight! It's an auto-scroller for the most part. Not too tough, but it was fun to design.

@ploot

I still think so because people just visiting the thread might want to read through and randomly play whatever they see. Plus it let's us know a new level is made. But the list is more for archiving and digging through all the works. I see no reason to stop posting here in the thread too. I'll be posting both personally.

Love all the autoscrollers everybody is making. Always been a fan!

OH MAN. Don't forget to press "up" on the D-Pad when you're wearing a mystery costume. It's something you generally don't think of doing when playing SMB1. Each amiibo has a special pose and most have a sound effect that goes along with it.

ALSO, when you fall down a pit while in costume you will hear something more suited to what you're wearing (I assume the Pokemon don't do this though). Good stuff!

@DrFinkelstein
Cool, cool.

@Hinph
I too am a fan. I want to try creating a cheetah speed one, but man is it fast!

I threw this one together pretty quickly but it's got a great message.

The music while creating with the Mario 1 Castle Set is fucking amazing.

Pretty much every single post in my Miiverse activity feed is from Super Mario Maker, and I'm getting jealous now. There are too many games I want to get before this game is over! Gah!

Muncher Village is here... another easy-ish course. The kids like it.

You know, I was hoping more people would play the levels we make. I wonder if the levels will continue to get plays or if they will all stop appearing for people after awhile.

What is the deal with "featured" levels anyway? They generally aren't that impressive.

@DrFinkelstein

Could you delete my submission for this level or change the code to the one above? I noticed a small flaw in my level, and I was too OCD to let it slide, so I reuploaded.

Did anyone bother trying out my secret in my last level? I see people played it but I was hoping it would at least generate a bit of curiosity about the level with its secret People online just seem to hit the flagpole and move on... which I guess makes sense. Oh well.
