The weather was nice. The planes were fueled up. The British had a new game concept and it was time for Stephen (DrFinkelstein) to get back to the tarmac with Peter (Octorockin) and Joe (Ninsage)!

The climbed into the cabin and took off on a podcast adventure with a primary destination in mind. Up and coming game developer, PlayTonic Games, had recently launched their official Kickstarter for their new game, Yooka-Laylee. Go on over and support it! There's still 31 days left! The trio, excited as ever at the prospect, goes in depth on what this game could mean for them and for the future of the collect-a-thon 3D platformer genre. Before this all, the group has a bit of Now Playing where Octorockin tells us all about Code Name S.T.E.A.M. and DrFinkelstein monkeys-around in Donkey Kong 64, amongst other games.

After the Yooka-Laylee discussion the three celebrate the music works of David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, who happen to be working on the soundtrack for Yooka-Laylee. Each picks a particular favorite track from both composers. It's like a mini-Euphonic episode packed right in!

Finally they wind down with a little banter regarding what remains over at Rare (now a Microsoft 2nd party company). Apparently Rare is poised to showcase something new at E3 2015 and there's a little speculation about it. Be sure to stick through the end of the show to hear DrFinkelstein end it without a script and pretty much confuse the hell out of Ninsage.

The transition music for the main topic comes from Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze and the theme music... yep you're right... still hasn't changed from Zero's masterpiece.

Listened up until the end of the Yooka Laylee discussion. Good stuff!

I'm definitely interested in Code Name Steam but I've done a great job of not buying games this year and I have XCom Enemy Unknown to play once I get a monitor (doesn't seem like a game to play on the TV) so I will hold out for a sale.

Donkey Kong 64 is also tempting since I never played it and it would be interesting to go back to that genre after all these years. But then I've heard a lot of negativity too. It's too bad Club Nintendo is gone, this would be a perfect game to get with coins down the road. Maybe when they announce whatever the new DeNa program is it will shed light on whether there could be a way to get this game without shelling out $10.

Glad to hear how enthusiastic you guys are about Yooka Laylee. I haven't been following it as closely but I'll definitely be interested in picking up the game pending reviews. I'll spare everyone my Kickstarter thoughts here for the most part, but I do think some of those stretch goals sound really weird. Music for bosses? Another playable character? I definitely agree they should have a clear vision for the game and make that vision regardless of this funding stuff. And things like N64 mode seem like a good bonus that is kind of off on the side, but that takes time to make and if it's one of the team members making it, then won't that necessarily delay the game? And if they're farming it off to someone else, is that really the same as the team itself making it? These are the things that really make me question Kickstarter. Sure, Shovel Knight did a lot of this stuff and it came out well but it just doesn't really gel with my view of how artistic development should go.

Super great podcast, guys. Just got caught up with this one a couple days ago. @Jargon actually stole much of what I wanted to comment on, but I'll still mention a few things. I did recently get Code Name Steam, but haven't played it too much yet. While I can't say I love the character designs, I absolutely adore the presentation. Donkey Kong 64 is a game I played a bit ages ago. Once I get my game room back in working order, I'll fire it up.

Jargon's thoughts on kickstarter echo mine near identically, especially when it comes to the vision from the developers. They should know exactly the game they want to make before a dime is collected. And the notion that a kickstarter has to invent new stretch goals is really troublesome to me. Like I've mentioned elsewhere, stretch goals bear a striking similarity to feature creep. All that said, I can't wait for Yooja Laylee to be released.it looks like a game right up my alley. And if Rare also happens to be working on a new Banjo, all the better! I'll take as many of these types of games as I can get. Nuts and Bolts was a spectacular game, so my hopes would be high for a new one.

Again gentlemen, great podcast. Thank you Stephen and Joe and Peter! Much, much appreciated!

Edit- also wanted to mention that I loved the music in this episode as well. I know I don't appreciate game music as much as others do, but I sure do like it when it's put in front of me like this. Very cool.
