Just curious if anyone else picked up this set? It only being $10 for the first week is a crazy good deal. I still have the physical version, but couldn't pass this up.

Ahhh. Nice. That should really help. Well as long as I stick to Light and Annhilator beam I should be okay. Fuck the Dark beam, it's shit for this boss.

Ha! There we go! Much easier! Kicked his ass easily just using Annihilator and Light Beam. Yeah, using Dark Beam on him seems completely pointless. Very weird design there....

I was wondering if there was a final form or Dark Samus still to fight! My recollection of this game was worse than I thought, wow!

Looks like it's now time to escape Aether! Yay now I get to start Prime 3!!!!!!!!!! BEEN A LONG TIME!! OOH EXCITING!!!

Edit: lol, spoke too soon..

UGH the fucking time ran out! She had one good hit left before she died! And the fucking time got me!! OMG!!

So you need to fight 4 bosses without dying! And you have a time limit on the last one, shit!

Well, she really isn't hard either, but you have to figure out her pattern and a bit of the timing. I couldn't discern which were absorbable shots and which were attacks. Two of them look really similar. You just have to remember to wait til she has this charge wave thing over her, which she uses before she shoots out the phazon. And I take it super missiles are the best weapon against her? Or Annihilator shots? That's the hardest part, when she's hovering on the damn ground and you need to hit her. She has this attack/block that she seems to use right when my super missile is ready to go and it fucks it all up. I can never figure out when to shoot her when she's doing that shit.

And do you need time to escape or does it end right there?

I can only stomach one stab at this boss a night. I'll really finish it tomorrow haha. Fuck. Prime 3 delayed another day. Kinda like NX.

@carlosrox I may not have much to comment on, but I do still like reading your posts. It's making me want to play the Prime games again, it's been a bit. I think I still prefer Prime 1 simply because it was first, but Prime 2 is indeed a great game and can stand next to the first no problem.

I do remember some of the bosses in the game being quite a step up in difficulty compared to the first game, especially the final one. That could just be because it's a direct sequel and they wanted to offer more challenge to those who were already used to the game... though I think I recall hearing that the game was a bit rushed for released. I have a feeling that the bosses didn't get enough play testing, and as a result some of them are more difficult / unbalanced than what was intended.

@Mop it up
Ah great, good to know. I don't want my posts to be annoying.

Well I just finished Echoes at 96% so I ended up doing better than I did in Prime! 26:57 was my final time. Hmmm I remember when I first played it on GC I may have actually got 97%. Once again I don't even have any real idea where the final items might be. I thought I looked over basically the whole game again pretty well one last time before going for the boss. Must be some really obscure shit.

Prime and Echoes are so damn good, but I think at this point I actually give the edge to Echoes. Some brilliant design in there, and I ended up understanding the map pretty well in the end. Such a fantastic dark atmosphere through and through. I love Samus just walking out of the temple with a simple hand wave. I honestly do like the blank slateness of Nintendo's characters. Link, Mario, and Samus work just fine the way they are.

So I'm off to start Corruption now! So excited!!

I totally forgot Prime 3 is basically about Mother Brains. Awesome.

Hmm some of the music in this game is kinda dubious.

I admit I was doubting MP3 for quite a stretch there but now I'm getting into the groove and really feelin' it.

Still, it does have some serious drawbacks. Level design is great but still feels a bit weird and streamlined, some tracks are truly next to awful, pushing 1 to advance conversation is dreadful, aaaaand I swear the controls are somehow worse than the other games in the trilogy package. Is it my imagination? Did anyone else remember the IR in MP3 ever feeling kinda off sometimes? And syncing issues even, kinda, kinda sometimes? It feels like it isn't smooth, kinda janky even? Anyone remember feeling that? There's no way I have memories of it before and feeling it now, while feeling nothing like that in MP1 and 2 that I just spent 15+hrs in each and didn't feel a thing.

Other than that shit, shit is pretty damn ace. MP1 and 2 level of ace? Not quite yet...but I remember this game getting better and better as it went..as it currently is as I play!

God I remember how much I love majority of the tracks in this game though! Dat Bryyo Fire is Metroid soup for the soul.

Oh and the challenge is there btw. Weird how I forgot this game had some challenge. Rundas killed me!

@carlosrox

MP3 is an interesting game to me. It just feels...I dunno, really streamlined and fun. Like, I can respect Echoes' hardcore nature (and I even 100%ed it at some point on the Trilogy) but it's so caustic and oppressive that I feel like I need to towel off after playing it for awhile. MP3 is kind of a tighter palette-cleanser of a Metroid game; it's quicker and the points of interest are more "clustered together," if that makes sense. It feels like there's less downtime. At times it's a bit too linear for my liking, but it helps ensure that the pacing is strong.

My ranking for the series is MP1 > MP3 > MP2, but I think they're all very strong in their own ways.

Have you gotten to Elysia yet? One of my favorite Metroid Prime environments, up there with Sanctuary Fortress, Chozo Ruins and Phendrana Drifts.

@TriforceBun
So far I'd actually rank it MP2>MP1>MP3 but that could change, however doubtful.

The problems I mentioned are hard for me to ignore. It always feels just a bit weird for me to enter Hyper mode. Holding down + is surprisingly uncomfortable for me. Pressing 1 to advance forced, unskippable dialogue and stuff is terrible, why the hell couldn't they come up with something else, something context sensitive maybe? Aren't dpad left and right unbound buttons?

I agree with you though that Elysia is fantastic and one of my favorite areas in any Metroid. The rails bits with 'shoot stuff or you fall' I remember being a pain in the ass. I remember it being very easy to mess up.
