amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon, CodeName: S.T.E.A.M., ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON LEGACY, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and more…
If I were getting my nieces and nephews Amiibo I would get them ones they have actually heard of! But they get the $5 Nintendo figures from me. Those $5 figures have a pretty decent line-up. Not as good as Amiibos, but not bad.
@J.K. Riki They announced a Kirby series a couple weeks ago. Dedede, Kirby, Meta Knight and Waddle Dee. I dislike that they're making new amiibo of characters that are already represented, but at least the new Kirby is pretty cute.
I dunno, I would be interested in a Squirtle amiibo. :)
I must have missed the Kirby announcement. Man... I like Kirby and all, but I feel like he gets uber-represented from Nintendo more than perhaps his popularity would demand? Feels like, anyway, from games to things like this. And does anyone care about Waddle Dee, really? Seems like such a toss-away character to me. Can't say I'm a huge fan of Dedede outside of Brawl in the Family either.
Oh well. Maybe the next wave will be something new or different. Surprised there was no Slippy/Peppy addition for Star Fox Zero's launch. I imagine Zelda U will have at least one or two...
@ploot You forgot to mention the fact that the Smash Kirby amiibo is basically worthless now because it can't be used to access the UFO power in Kirby Robobot which makes its Kirby series counterpart blatantly superior.
@ploot Yeah, the Squid Sisters should make nice display figures for fans. The in-game functionality remains incredibly stupid of course, but that may be for the best. I recall hearing these rumoured or leaked or whatever a while back, so I was wondering when they'd show up.
I agree the colour swap thing is kinda lame at this point. The time for an alternate choice would have been at the same time as the other pack. I hope that Splat2n has unique characters in it (and maybe even playable Callie and Marie!).
The functionality might be less than ideal, but at least it makes sense I suppose. If their whole thing was that they were pop-stars of some sort, it works that they would unlock videos. It might be kind of weird to have them playable because depending on how much extra stuff you're wearing it might not even be visible.
