amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon, CodeName: S.T.E.A.M., ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON LEGACY, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and more…
Ok, what amiibo are being released today? I had no idea that amiibo were being released today. I believe the large yarn yoshi amiibo is a TRU exclusive, which I'm not interested, since I have all three of the smaller, colored yoshi's, add in the ridiculous price of $40 for a stuffed animal, sorry Nintendo, I love ya, but not that much.
Is Mew amiibo released today and if so, where? Any others?
Actually, I did a quick bit of research and ran up to Target, made it there by 8:05am. Really only saw one other guy there with a Mewtwo. There was none out, so I asked the guys behind the counter if they had any Mewtwo amiibos. 'Sure', they said, they had to go back to the stock room to get me one. WTF, shouldn't they have them out on display. I'm not really interested in AC amiibos, since I've never played any of the AC games. I have no idea how many AC amiibos our Target received, since apparently these people are too lazy to have the product available out on the shelves. At least I only had to fork out $13.77.
What I am really interested in buying is the Cloud amiibo, which was just announced in the Nintendo Direct. Can't wait!
I think I'm gonna not buy Mega Yarn Yoshi. I've already spent way too much this month on these things, and the functionality is the same as the small one...plus I don't have the space for it. No need. Save $40 and take my wife out.
But I did snag AC: Amiibo Festival. I think my daughter will enjoy playing it since there isn't much to it.
So I dug into AC: amiibo Festival, and my daughter and wife loved playing! Definitely a game for non-gamers, but it was fun. Took about an hour (even with us reading the text to our three year old) and she was ready to play again.
Stopped by Best Buy to recycle some old TVs today and they must have just restocked because the shelves were PACKED. Bunch of new ones and a lot of the originals like Marth and Fox and such. Nice to see them all lined up. :)
(Also the Dark Pit pose is so much better than the Pit pose! Dang. If the normal Pit had been in the Dark Pit pose, I'd probably add that one to my collection in spite of trying very hard not to buy any future Amiibo.)
I believe every 'packaged' amiibo has released separately shortly after. I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to nab this. Plus, you could always import from Japan or Europe who likely will have individual amiibos.
That said, let me look cause…
Yep, here's a packaged version without the game. They will sell this alone.
It's funny, I was debating about whether to get a bowl of fruit or A BUNCH OF COOKIES for dessert today, and decided to be smart and go with the fruit, but then once I got into the cafeteria and saw that they had taken the giant platter of cookies away I instantly got fed up and wanted the cookies again.
I reserved TPHD just now, and also picked up an Animal Crossing 3-pack (mainly for KK). I really like the design of the AC Amiibo's, you can actually see their faces unlike the Smash ones where they have the characters looking down, also no ugly supports, they seem to be of higher quality build as well, the paint job is cleaner and more detailed and the molds are smoother with fewer visible seems.
EDIT: On closer inspection my KK has a giant thumbprint on the side of his head, molded into th plastic, sigh. I wish Nintendo would up the quality of these things.
