General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

My amiibo hunt was a success. Wewt. Toys R Us had a fuckton of Bowser Jr's, but of course everything else was very limited. The Gannondorf amiibo is pretty nice.

@VofEscaflowne

It seems like some of the newest amiibo are becoming easier to find on their release dates compared to previous waves. That's definitely good to see.

Those 30th anniversary Mario amiibo are indeed awesome. Mario's pixel-y form really pops and the base looks classy. The goofy stuff that those specific amiibo unlock in Super Mario Maker is like icing on the cake!

@Mr_Mustache
I almost guarantee you it'll be available on its own soon. Walmart here had tons and tons of them.
Next time I'm out I can take a look, but you'll be able to get it on your own soon.
Let me know though!

Picture of today's haul.

Two of my three Target.com shipments arrived today and I scored Bowser Jr. Olimar won't be here until sometime next week for whatever reason.

I went to go buy Super Mario Maker today and I ended up buying the Splatoon three pack, Olimar, and Ganondorf Amiibos. They did not have any more of the 8-Bit 30th anniversary Mario Amiibo though =(

I was able to get all of the amiibo I was after today: both 8-Bit Mario's, Dr. Mario, Olimar (thanks to Ponderus) and Bowser Jr. (thanks to Ploot).

Olimar is probably my new favourite surpassing Dedede. I love the detail put into the figure. I know that Nintendo has been doing a great job on keeping the quality high on these so I wasn't surprised, just, wow... He's so cool looking!

@Scrawnton

That's amazing that you found the Splatoon 3-Pack!
09/12/15, 04:25
@Beardednerd Yeah, I am extremely excited to own all the splatoon ones now. I do not intend to collect all Amiibo, just certain ones, and that triple pack was definitely one of them.
09/12/15, 04:32
A few stores around here also got in a few Splatoon 3 packs. I only needed the classic pixel Mario this wave cause I already bought this wave's amiibo figures from Japan, blue pants Pixel Mario and the 3 different colored yarn yoshis. Of course it seems like all the stores I went to today had plenty of amiibos to go around. All well, at least I'm all caught up.

So what's the consensus between classic & modern 8-bit Mario?

The classic looks more genuine to the source material, but the modern one looks more visually interesting.

I'm torn.

I like the "modern" 8-bit Mario better, he just looks better in blue. I might grab one of those at some point, unless it stays exclusive to the system bundle. Though ideally, I've always liked the red overalls, blue shirt look; I wonder if they'll ever make one of those.

As a side note, I think it's funny how Mario makes up over 10% of all amiibo characters. So many variations!

@ploot

I hope you're right!

And I'm SO tempted to open a bunch of mine now with Super Mario Maker here. But Little Mac, you've been sealed for so long!

@Beardednerd

I'm standing in front of one right now

Just a quick meassage, I have a few extra amiibos(doubles), that I am wanting to unload. I'm willing to sell a Zero Suit Samus, Olimar and Dr. Mario. I currently have those three in my possession. I sent Triforcebun a pm, he has first dibs, but he really only indicated that he wanted the Boy Inkling. Both Gamestops where I live received both the boy and girl inkling and the 3 packs that include the squid. As of this evening, at least one of the Gamestops still had all the Splatoon amiibos. If anyone still needs one or is interested, I will go out and buy them tomorrow.

Somw stores still had Ganondorf as well, plus the other amiibos. As for Bowser Jr.m he is a ToysRUs exclusive, and I live about 45 mins from there, so I have no plans on driving down there. Sorry.

A quick question, Does Dr Fink or anyone else who keeps up with the amiibos know when the Walmarts will have the modern(blue) Pixel Mario for sell? I bought one from Japan, but my one son wants the Pixel Mario Amiibo with blue pants. I figure I'll wait cause there are still a fair amount of this waves amiibos still on store shelves, even the classic colored pixel mario. I figure I might as well wait before ordering another from Japan, even though I've been getting really good deals, I might as well wait and try to save a few bucks.

I find it strange that Canada received the modern blue mario to sell individually, and the rest of NA can only acheive owning one by purchasing the WiiU Bundle. It would make sense if Canada was part of a different continent. Come on Nintendo, you almost had everything perfect with the release of this wave's amiibos, but you had to go do something funky like this. WTF?!

Well, my wife once again gave herself a headache trying to procure me these dumb things. First, she totally fooled me by claiming she had to work early when she actually hit a Target at open. Then there was apparently a new manager at this Target that didn't understand Amiibo at all, and proper line etiquette was not followed, which made her fifth in line for one of the four available Marios. And then the dopey manager wanted to limit sales to one Amiibo per person! Thankfully, Amanda was able to talk sense to him and get one of each kind. By chance, I was out after work and went Amiibo hunting on my own (unaware of her earlier exploits by design) and came across a few on my own. We exchanged anniversary gifts that night and that's when I got my cool new Amiibo, minus 8-bit Mario. Sure, I have a few to return, but that's fine by me. I appreciate her effort to no end! (And I was able to secure a Ganondorf she missed as well, so it was worth it for me to look after all.)

@gamewizard65 Don't even get me started on the stupidity of American vs Canadian releases are. Everything from Amiibos to even digital download stuff is so whacked out, it's headache inducing.
09/13/15, 19:29
@gamewizard65

I don't think we know when that Modern 8-Bit Mario will hit as a stand alone item but it is suspected that it will happen this year. There's a CSPIA or whatever it is for it which implies it's stand-alone creation.

@Ponderus

Overall, I really have no complaints. I know those living in Canada usually get the short end of the stick, ect. I know there has been plenty of times that the US will receive a special bundle, ect., whereas Canada doesn't receive it. I just feel, when something is being released for NA, every country in NA should receive the same product.

@DrFinkelstein

Yea, I didn't think there was a release date given. I'm going to be patient before ordering another from Japan. I know when Mario Party 10 was released, it was only a week or two later when Mario was released separately from the game. I told my son to be patient and if it doesn't look like the US will receive the modern mario, then I'll order another one from Japan.

@GameDadGrant

Ganondorf has already been de-boxed here in a mostly-boxed household. Aside from Link and Villager on Day 1, I think he's got the shortest time home without being opened. Ah well, Hyrule Warriors hooray!
