General amiibo Discussion Thread
amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

Shovel Knight Amiibo confirmed!

Guess I need to buy another Amiibo after all.

Now, is Shovel Knight going to be in Smash? That would be awesomeeeee.

Wow, that's great. I'm happy for Yacht Club Games!

I'm highly skeptical he'll ever be a Smash fighter though.

Aww crap, really? Where exactly do I need to go to pre-order? (Liiiike, what the heck is Game Brighton?) Is that an OFFICIAL Nintendo Seal, or one just made to look like it?

Pretty crazy that 3rd party amiibo are already happening. What else would be cool? (I'm assuming functionality with upcoming or recently released games would be required)

@Mr_Mustache Game Brighton is the UK shop that uh... accidentally? leaked this. So I don't think it has even been officially announced in the US yet? Not sure on that though, don't listen to me then miss out on it.

@Infinitywave Wonderful 101! That is probably unlikely though.

Hmm, what major 3rd party stuff has even released recently or will release soon? Somehow I doubt Devil's Third is getting any Amiibo.

I just preordered the Shovel Knight amiibo from game.co.uk! Go go go!

Man, I strongly considered it, but $30 shipped felt just a tad too high. I hope to see it on shelves here.

I have a strong feeling this will be one of the hard to get ones.

I certainly hope not with the content attached to it.

Target had five of the new amiibo up (including Dr. Mario) earlier and I snagged them all. By the time I could get here to mention it, they were all gone...

But Rosalina & Luma are live.

They canceled my order. I didn't realize it was that expensive till I ordered it but I guess I'm forced to wait for the US.

Ahhhh, UK. Lemme see what Reddit has to say..

--Wait, what? Apparently they have Amiibo over on CARiD.com? What the heck is that?

Here is Lucina:

Robin is there, too. I don't know ANYTHING about this site.

American Target??

Yes. Target.com. ZSS, Ganondorf, Olimar, Dr. Mario, and Classic Mario, all shipping in two weeks.

Sean Velasco: “We went over the entire range of possibilities of what we could do and what was going too far, what wasn’t going far enough, what does the Amiibo do, how does it work together. It was definitely a process. I heard that Mr. Miyamoto read one of my pitch documents and said, ‘No’ and that’s like the greatest honor of my life.”

Welp, I totally missed out on those. Blah.

EDIT- Or are they still available?? I'm very confused..

So who here is interested in getting the Shovel Knight amiibo?

Also what is everyone's favorite amiibo in general? King Dedede has pretty much been my favorite from a quality standpoint but I was also pretty impressed with the detail on Robin's amiibo. We have only a few more left I believe in the Smash Bros. line and I'm incredibly psyched for the Duck Hunt amiibo myself. It looks fantastic.

The 8-Bit Mario amiibo looks slick also. I'd be psyched to find an 8-Bit Link or other 8-Bit amiibos. Just hope Nintendo doesn't get any crazy ideas and market an 8-Bit amiibo for every costume found in Super Mario Maker.

Back on the Shovel Knight amiibo. It'd be so cool to see Splatoon have some kind of Shovel Knight costume correlated with it. I'd love if Splatoon did this for all sorts of amiibos out there. It's not that they'd have to have any more power than others but the styles would be neat. Mario Hat, Bowser Jr's style paintbrush, Link's boots, etc. Of course they could make them sellable too but free for amiibo owners. Money is pretty easy to come by in that game.

I want to get them all, and if Shovel Knight is included in there..so be it. I draw the line at Giant Yarn Yoshi.

Ike is my dude. I think 8-bit Mario looks pretty cool, toooo.

The Shovel Knight amiibo looks awesome. Now I feel like Playtonic Games has a good chance of creating a Yooka-Laylee amiibo if they really want to.

I couldn't stop myself from buying an imported Ganondorf amiibo because it looked so cool. Such an intricate character design demands a high level of detail, and they nailed it. It's my favorite amiibo that I own.

Also, The Retro 3-Pack that includes R.O.B., Duck Hunt, and Mr. Game & Watch amiibo is now available on Gamestop's website.
