amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo. Known amiibo

So, here's a new one (for me):
Called GameStop on Wednesday as I knew Dedede was on his way, wanting to make sure MY location got some because I've had it reserved since the initial release. And, like, that would make sense, since GameStop would know that somebody at that location "needed" one still. Talked to the manager (who I'm on a first name basis with), she opened up a box that she hadn't opened up yet, "yes, he's in here!" I asked her to not TAPE my name to it (after she said she'd put my name on it), since it left some tape scum on Ike's bubble, so she said she'd use a rubber band instead. Sounds good (assuming its not too tight to leave an indent, ya know?). She said she wasn't working Thursday, and that was fine since I'd be in Friday.
Swing on down there today, "hey Rob!" Opens up the cabinet where reserves go. "Where is it?" "Oh Sandy, don't play with me!," I say. Another girl (who I don't know) asks her for the SKU while she looks different places for it; "I left it right here.." Other girl types it in "says we don't have any." My stomach drops, of course, and now I'm like "uhhhh, what?" Two different people worked the day before, one of whom is a girl who gives me special treatment, knows my obsession with Amiibo, and definitely knows my name. The other is some kid I've never met, or at least don't know him by name. I WONDER WHO SOLD IT ON ME? The girl said she didn't do it, and that she saw my name in there on it. The other kid has also denied it.
Question: what the hell happened??
Next Question: they called all over the place looking for non-reserved D3's; are there any extra NA ones floating around on here? Nightmare scenario for me here, as I don't believe there'll be anymore shipped, obviously. Pretty sickening. That was the last one I needed. |

@Mr_MustacheI wouldn't be surprised if the other guy took it for himself. My friend works at Toy R Us and knows for a fact that his coworker stockpiles any rare amiibo before they even hit the shelves. It would have been so easy for that guy at Gamestop take the rubberband holding your name off, buy the thing for himself, and laugh all the way to Ebay. "Oops, I didn't see a name. CHA-CHING!" I saw a bundle on Gamestop's website that comes with Smash U, a GC controller adapter, Dedede, and Ness for around 100-120. It might be gone now considering how rare those two are. If not, you could probably return Smash U to your store, sell the adaptor to someone on here on online, and keep the amiibo. EDIT: IT'S STILL UP. It's $105, so if you return Smash for $60, sell the adaptor for $10-$15, and keep the amiibo you'll be getting two very rare ones for about $30. It's a bit more work, but given the circumstances it's not a bad option. |
