General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

Guys, did you see this?

https://twitter.com/VideoGamesPlus_/status/541266788441665536

I'm not sure if I believe it, we don't have a source other than that statement.

Also, those amiibo have been selling out, so why would they discontinue them?

@Paleo_Orca
I have a feeling that's BS, but I am getting a little worried about finding a Marth.
I went to a few stores today and he's nowhere to be seen.

@Paleo_Orca
Friggin' weird to have them be some sort of limited editions without letting anyone know until they run out.

@ploot

Yeah, out of the places I've been, I haven't seen Marth, Wii Fit trainer or Villager. I'm hoping I can get them at some point.
Posted: 12/06/14, 22:31:46
I saw them on the first day. And then picked up Mario, since I am lame and practical.
Posted: 12/06/14, 22:39:40
Damn it. I got so close to buying both a Villager and a Wii Fit Trainer the other day.
Posted: 12/06/14, 23:13:19
@kriswright

What stopped you? Those are both apparently rare, Villager more than Wii Fit Trainer.

Damn I hope that isn't true. The coolest thing about Amiibo to me is that it we finally have some "niche" Nintendo figures that are easy to find and (relatively) cheap. If the niche ones are all going to have limited runs and be things you have to either preorder or pay out the ass for on eBay, that will suck.

I have been kind of wondering how the nobodies were selling. Like, how many Shulks will actually sell next to Marios and such?

I wonder how Skylanders creates demand for specific characters. None of their characters were that big before Skylanders became a thing. Now they sell a ton of figures of a variety of characters. I was hoping Nintendo could manage to do that with its lesser known characters...

@DrFinkelstein

I didn't know they were rare and I didn't know they would stop making them. If anything, I figured they'd learn that there was more demand for the obscure characters and start printing more.

If anyone can find a Marth figure, I would appreciate it you could pick one up for me and I would work with you to even trade for it and the shipping costs. I just tried every store in South East Michigan and I couldn't find it. Literally I'm driving to pick someone up at the airport and so I tried all sorts of places along the way that I could stop at.

Thanks.

@DrFinkelstein
I'm in the same camp as you, Fink. I would love some help getting a Marth.

ALTHOUGH I really do think they will have reprints. Discontinuing something two weeks after it is released makes little sense.
As Ludist said, his Toys R Us recently put out a bunch of new Marths, so they are probably out there, ready to be stocked.

@ploot

I would think that's weird too. Even for an obscure character like Marth, he must have a bigger foll9wing than ever. I'll tip you off if I see anything. I'll buy two even if I see them.

I would hope they have more coming. I just don't know why they wouldn't announce it. Maybe in doing so you give the scalpers more time to prepare. I just wish I could know if I should worry or not. Damn prices have already jumped another 10 bucks on average since the rumor hit two hours ago that these were discontinued along with Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. I want them all but I refuse to buy from a scalper.

Amiibo haven't even appeared on Guam yet. I'm not interested for myself, but maybe I should grab some of these rare ones. I called Gamestop and they're expecting a shipment with all the amiibo today or tomorrow. I wonder how fast they'll sell.
Posted: 12/07/14, 03:33:29
@Jargon

I should try calling my Gamestops. I haven't tried them because I figured if anything they'd be out of Marth, but maybe not. I dunno. For Guam though I could see them just now getting their shipments.

I think I might end up just pre-ordering any 'possibly rare' one from Amazon from now on. Just to be safe. Any obscure or even overly popular Nintendo character.

I really just wish Nintendo would friggin' speak up about this and put rumors (and possibly scalpers) to rest.

I just bought a Wii Fit Trainer because I heard they were phasing it out. What the fuck is wrong with me? These things are turning me into that guy who collects Beanie Babies.
Posted: 12/07/14, 04:11:58
Guess I'll actually be making an effort to get the Mega Man and Shulk Amiibos as soon as I can, just 'cause I want the figures.
Posted: 12/07/14, 11:50:15
Looks like the Lucario amiibo preorders are sold out at Toys R Us and I'll have to actually go to a store like it's the 80's or some shit.
Posted: 12/07/14, 16:01:00
I got Wii Fit Trainer and Villager. So much for only getting one... but the rumors of them being discontinued got to me. I couldn't find Marth though. Villager was the last one too!

If this is how it's going to be, with scalpers scrambling to re-sell the "rarer" characters as soon as they effing release, then I might just jump on Pokepal's #boycottamiibo bandwagon.

I was hoping to slowly grow my collection of these things, not spend hundreds of dollars at once, gobbling them all up just to be sure I can get certain characters.

Nintendo needs to issue a statement on this ridiculousness.
