amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. I'm hearing too that Meta Knight has a good shot at a decent launch. Canada numbers are pretty plentiful.

Got my Inkling Girl Amiibo in the mail today. Looks good except for a few minor paint mishaps on the tank and the huge seam going straight across her head from ear to ear. Mega Man is still my idea of Amiibo perfection, but she's a fine looking figurine overall nevertheless.

Also, when I opened the packaging there was this almost overwhelming smell of plastic, and the scent was identical to one I remember from my childhood, possibly from Masters of the Universe toys or something. Ghostbusters, maybe. The nostalgia!

Lost my post.... Basically "argh, forgot about Wal-Mart."

Most worried about Ness, Lucina, Robin, in that order, and S.Mario scares me, too. Plan on being there for TRU though, so I dig those (high-end) numbers. This all pretty much reinforces what I was expecting. Look at Best Buy; our store here is THE PITS.

That said, anyone got a line on an extra Ness? Or META KNIGHT? I feel like I'm going to miss out -- again!

Conversely, anyone out there struggling / looking for something for sure? I know BeardedNerd always has requests.

There are Meta Knights everywhere in Adelaide, or at least there were a week ago. I can check for you guys if you want one and I can figure out how to ship it over there, which is something I've never done before.

In an interesting move, Amazon is releasing more tomorrow for Wave 4, and doing so starting at 5PM EDT, which should be well after anyone has tried at other locations. The quantities will be limited with One-Click disabled. They will release each one individually at some point within a half hour window and they announced the window up front. That's a heck of a way to get everyone their fair shot.

I'll be at Target pretty early tomorrow to nab a retail copy of Splatoon. Does anyone want me to keep an eye out for any amiibos, Inklings or otherwise?

In what can only be described as "a nightmare," I went to the Super Wal-Mart across town, arriving at 11:43p and taking the walk of shame inside. People look at me like I have 3 heads when I ask about these things, and it doesn't help when there are BABIES there, too. Thankfully, I didn't have to compete with any children tonight, but there was an older collector with a cane, and then a "younger" guy showed up after me (I'd put him around 21-24). We proceeded to ask every person in the area where the new Amiibo were (for simplicity of story), and each and every person had to be SHOWED what they were. It's like they'd never heard of them. So after we finally showed them what we were looking for, and dealing with TWO different store managers, the doubts started coming. "I don't think we got any," to which I responded "you're the biggest Wal-Mart in town, they definitely didn't skip you." It was a matter of FINDING these things, and there were no notes or emails or anything for these guys. You'd think that with an in demand product, and a MIDNIGHT RELEASE of said product, everyone would be ready for it.

While I'm pulling my neck beard skin (which is a new nervous twitch, ugh), Mike (the youngish guy) calls out to Henrietta. They've already sold out of their stock (UNBELIEVABLE), but he told them our woes. The stock folk went back into the room to check the electronics cages, and found a stray Luigi box. "No, thats old, but getting warmer!" And then, PAC-MAN was unearthed! "That's them!"

I had low expectations for Wal-Mart, and they were verified here as they only got 4 Pac-Man and 4 Charizard in. I went home with one of each, Mike got one of each (I think), and Matt (older guy w/ cane) got TWO of each. He told us that he keeps one in a box, and opens the other one. Some of us have trouble getting one complete set, and this guy has everything in DUPLICATE? Outrageous.

I guess the moral of the story is:
Tenacity and sticktoitiveness; sometimes they pay off

And I'm 2 for 2 on Amiibos so far today, so thats good. Hopefully I won't have to rely on Amazon...

That Amazon thing changes things a bit though..

Other than the wording, boxart is the same in all regions. I have uk and Japanese amiibos in their original packaging and the boxart is the same as NA's, except Super Smash Bros in upper left is Japanese writing. I have all amiibos in their original packaging, displayed on the wall, and other than a litlle difference on some of the text, box art from those regions is identical to NA's boxart.

I was lucky enough to nab pre-orders for all but Greninja. My buddy is hopefully going to get me Greninja this morning. I have to go to work so stopping by a TRU for the whole morning just isn't an option.
