General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

So a shit-ton of news has hit amiibo-wise! I'll start by reposting my thoughts from the other thread...

-----------------------------------------------------

I feel such dread regarding the amiibo situation. Yes Nintendo has had time to learn from the initial launch. Yes the Port Strike made things harder originally. Yes retailers are taking more efforts to make amiibo accessible to everyone (i.e. limiting purchase quantities). But dammit to hell with the retailer specific ones and dammit to hell for knowing this early when they release. Somehow I feel like this just prepares scalpers when really it doesn't.

I need to get the whole Smash collection... I'm so far in already. How hard is this going to be?

-----------------------------------------------------

So I ask... for the love of Nintendo... please help myself and us all out as we have been going into these next months. We'll need the support I think. I wish Nintendo would announce that they aim to be able to provide anyone who wants an amiibo... those amiibo but their end-game is still unclear. With bringing back Marth and such I wonder if they are trying harder....

I'll be using the same tactic I've been doing which is trying to double up or even triple up my preorders if I can and then passing those along to you all. Please if you can, do the same. At worst you end up selling it on Amazon or ebay if we all end up with it. We don't know which ones will be retailer exclusive or hard to find but we certainly need to get each other's backs.

May 29th
Charizard
Pac-Man
Wario
Jigglypuff
Greninja
Lucina
Robin
Ness

July 2015
Dark Pit
Palutena

September 2015
Olimar/Pikmin
Bowser Jr.
Dr. Mario
Zero Suit Samus
Ganondorf

Plus we've got those Yoshi Wooly World amiibo coming this Fall. I know I'll need those as I've wanted a Yarn Yoshi in general since the game was announced. And on May 29th we have the Splatoon packs!? Damn! I know I'll be compelled to buy the set. G'dammit Nintendo. You set me up for this... and I'm taking the bait like a pro.

Yeay, more retailer specific amiibo stinks hard, but the new amiibo look great, especially that yarn Yoshi! I likely won't do any preorders, but I'm always happy to scour neighborhood stores when they come out.

I'm still stressing a bit over whether Gamewizard is coming back or not. Amiibo can be a pain.

Yeah, gotta admit that (as someone who initially wasn't interested in amiibo), the new stuff Nintendo showed today looked really good. The Splatoon figures look excellent, as does Yarn Yoshi. And Lucas!? No way I'm not getting one of those.

So much for my only amiibo that I need to get being Ness. Now there's Ness and Lucas as my must-gets, and my probably-gonna-gets are Palutena and Splatoon (the set depends on the price, might just nab the girl).

@TriforceBun
It seems the squid amiibo only comes in the three-pack. I can't resist!
04/02/15, 06:40
Jigglypuff is Target exclusive.

@TriforceBun

The Splatoon three-pack is $34.99, which isn't bad for three amiibo. Ness is going up for sale today at 3:00 eastern (2:00 central), so I'm stalking their website to get one. Jigglypuff appears to be a Target exclusive like @DrFinkelstein said...

And no news for Canada.
I'm not liking this disconnect we seem to have regarding amiibo as of late.
04/02/15, 16:18
Keeping my eye out for when Ness is on sale as well!

35 might be a bit steep for me, even though the squid amiibo is quite cute. Might just stick with Inkling Girl.
04/02/15, 16:35
Greninja is likely TRU exclusive.
04/02/15, 17:02
@DrFinkelstein

I think that wraps up the exclusives then. GameStop listed the original 6 for sale today, so...could be worse. At least GameStop handles pre-orders well. They did with Shulk (the easiest of the four exclusives from Wave 3 to find), but I know EarthBound is a different beast altogether.
04/02/15, 17:17
Well, GameStop's site is swamped right now. This is dumb.
04/02/15, 22:23
Use their mobile site. Evidently he's not live on there yet...he should be on the website around 6:00 EST, but I'd start checking earlier.

I did manage to snag the five that Best Buy put up earlier today (Lucina, Robin, Charizard, Wario, and Pac-Man).

I also heard that they're prioritizing in-store orders over online ones. What bullshit.
04/02/15, 22:37
EB website is messed up here, too. I can get to my cart, but then I can't get any further.

I don't think in-store is until tomorrow (and tomorrow is a holiday in Ontario). BLARGG!
04/02/15, 23:27
I just got back from my in store purchase. It was fucking nuts. Luckily I was first in line but six others at least were waiting. Maybe more if groups weren't actually groups.

He tried several times. Each page would take minutes to load. Graphics wouldn't load. Pages would time out. I got to the final screen twice... after 67 minutes of attempts, and 30 minutes prior waiting, I finally got my six amiibo pack. So all are preordered. Then i had him try for the Splatoon pack and nabbed all three of those too much easier.

I hope this means their shit is together now but then I saw reports on twitter that they were going to stop taking orders on bundles and such, perhaps to alleviate the demand.

This was a total cluster fuck and in 2015, I'm really disappointed in Gamestop and Nintendo for not having a better grasp on this. I managed to nab a Jigglypuff when that shit went live this morning. Pure luck of the timing.

Hopefully this means I'm good to go and I can now keep an eye out for spares.

@DrFinkelstein
Congrats, my friend!

I am having the opposite of your luck over here, but I'm sure things will turn around. I hope!
04/02/15, 23:44
@ploot

Okay, it's been two hours. I'm about to give up. There's no reason things have to be this way.
04/03/15, 00:05
@Hero_Of_Hyrule
Yeah, today has been a major disappointment in the amiibo department.
Things just aren't handled properly.
04/03/15, 00:16
GameStop's facebook says their servers are borked and are only taking in-store pre-orders now. YAY.

*fart*
