General amiibo Discussion Thread
amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

After all the comparisons to the proto figures, I was expecting them to look crappy, but lo and behold, the characters look pretty darn great.
I grabbed four today (Samus, Villager, Fox and Peach). My local Best Buy had plenty of everyone.

I don't want to unbox them though. What is wrong with meeeeeeeeee?!

I already unboxed mine. I learned from that Steve Carell movie that if you keep toys in boxes you will be a virgin until 40 or whatever.

Have Samus on preorder and picked up Link today on a whim while I was picking up my Gamecube controller adapter.

Now I've bought two of these things I was never going to buy. God dammit, Nintendo.

They're going to be a huge hit and make them a lot of money.

The thing is, I actually like the way they look in their boxes. I wonder if there's a way to get them out and put them back in after use without destroying the box.

Well I picked up Smash Last night..... and the Amiibo's were there. I said awhile back that I would never buy them. And now I'm in the same camp as everyone else..I'm slowly coming around. Damn you Nintendo. It also doesn't help that the wife secretly picked me up a Link Amiibo so it was waiting for me when we got home. She now wants Peach - and I have officially lost the war. You were right T-Bun. I salute you.

But I'm only interested in a few..mostly because they are neat collectors items - I don't play enough local multiplayer to 'call out my amiibo' but it is neat to have him/her as a buddy while playing some Smash.

Cut out the bottom plastic part - it's actually pre cut (follow the dotted/jagged line)....then flip the back up and gently pull the whole plastic casing out. Voila!

Great! Do you plan to take them out of their boxes? It'd be cool to see them all aligned on a table like they would be in Smash Bros. Even cooler once the new ones release to add to it.

Not sure, I don't know where I am going to put these yet. I actually wish they were a little smaller.

To continue my story without the crap attached to it, my return at GameStop did NOT work, so I reluctantly bought Villager (I was getting Villager regardless, no question about it) and went into secret panic mode. Went to see Dumb And Dumber To with m'lady, and went to Toys R Us afterwards to return Link for store credit or something, though I was unsure how they'd react to me splicing their deal. If you return 1 of 3 of a 3 for 30 deal, didn't you just kinda force them into a 2 for 20?

The guy asked me if I wanted to exchange for anyone, and I drew a heavy sigh and told him how my day went. "I really only wanted the two I got and Villager."

"Oh, we have Villager." !! WHAT. "Yeah, I found some in a box earlier in the back!" I may've pulled out some hair at that moment, I'm not sure, but I told him how I asked specifically about Villager earlier in the morning and it seemed that there weren't any anywhere. Its POSSIBLE they were delivered earlier in the day after I was there? I don't know. The guys puts out Villagers (and brings one to me), and while he's putting them out there, I had sent Nikki to that area (across the store, though I could see her from afar) to check them out as she hadn't seen all of them. She said as soon as the Villagers went up, a kid picked one up and went "YES!", brimming with excitement. Haha, that's awesome.

Returned my Villager to GameStop, renewed my card, reserved Luigi, Mac, Zelda, whatever. Long f'n day of Amiibo.

If Toys R Us does a 3 for 30 in December, I'm gonna puke.

I bought Peach yesterday.

Really glad to hear everything ended well!!

@Mr_Mustache I actually think the Peach is one of the better designed ones, she isn't really one of my favorite characters, but I might grab it up anyway.

I went into Gamestop today intending to pick up DK and Starfox, but the line was insanely long so I didn't wait... it's better to just order them online I guess.

Yeah I agree, I don't really like Peach as a character, but her Amiibo is really nice. Same for Zelda, she's a great design.

The female figure I really want is Zero Suit Samus, and maybe the bikini version from Smash.

I can't see myself playing as her and not choosing that costume...

I just saw the amiibo at Wal-Mart today and they look great. Still don't have Smash (or a Wii U), but will most likely be getting those on Friday.

One of my followers actually bought me a Samus amiibo and is going to send it this week.

Does anyone else find it weird that Link's pose is him looking straight down so you can't see his face? Seems like if he was dashing into battle he's have his eye's forward and be looking where he's going. I hope we get some alternate poses of him, I think holding the Master Sword above his head would be cool.

I choose that outfit every time and only feel slightly guilty...

I assume any alternate poses, if they happen, will be based off the All Star Mode trophies since the amiibos are modeled after the Classic Mode trophies.
Although, some of the All Star trophies are maybe a little too "epic."

Yeah but you figure at some point in the future these will become more than just Smash figurines, right? Like hopefully we'll see Amiibos for characters that aren't even in Smash. Seems like an easy way for them to cash in, they could release 10 different links modeled on different games and the fans would pony up!

Captain Toad please!

oh and Rusty from Steamworld Dig.

In other words, I hope they branch beyond Smash in a meaningful way. I'm surprised Captain Toad isn't set for December. What a missed opportunity.
