amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon, CodeName: S.T.E.A.M., ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON LEGACY, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and more…
Has anyone noticed any differences in the bases of amiibo? My Mario one feels heavier/sturdier (?) than the rest. It also has a rough edge to it while my Samus and Link ones are soft. Whatever it is, I like it anyway.
Just went to a different Wal-Mart and Target near me this evening after seeing the third Hobbit movie and they were practically completely emptied. Wal-Mart had only 2 Donkey Kongs, and Target had a lot more space for amiibo, but I could see which ones were bought and there were none of the second wave there with shelf hooks for Marth and Villager gone. Only Mario, Peach, Yoshi and Pikachu.
I'm wondering if after Christmas I'll have better luck...
Also, Target has a deal on the Super Mario 3D World bundle right now for $249
If the urge to collect is there, and you're even thinking about allowing it, you had better stop resisting pronto. Near impossible to get 3 of them that released less than a month ago, and ones that came out earlier THIS week are already tough to find. That doesn't bode well for fencesitters!
People doing this is the natural result of Nintendo artificially creating demand for these products. Based on what I've observed here, it's a successful strategy because it's getting people interested in amiibos they wouldn't necessarily have otherwise wanted just because they're rare. That doesnt mean it's consumer friendly though and it seems to me that people's anger should be directed at the company that controls production more than people playing their part in the system that Nintendo created.
I also think some of the fault lies with the people who are willing to spend more than MSRP on these. If no one was buying these at over MSRP, then there wouldn't be people selling them for higher prices.
Oh I'm mad at the whole retailer-exclusive amiibo. Disney got the ire of customers regarding that with the first set of Infinity figures (even if they were timed-exclusives) and dropped it with 2.0. Target's taking forever to ready Rosalina pre-orders for whatever reason...
I'm going to Nintendo World tomorrow night, if anyone want me to check for certain figures let me know with which ones you're looking for. You never know with that place, they might restock, sometimes they'll have stuff in stock that no one else does, and sometimes they won't (I took me like 10 visits to get a Circle Pad Pro back in the day).
I actually took the time to report that account for being harassing in nature. That guy is completely out of line. Others are not reacting well to him but still, he's one of the reasons Twitter can be a depressing place. Such arrogance.
Luigi has touched down at Toys R Us, at least mine. And I know its LATE at night for most of you (my store is open until 12a), but there is a 2 for 22 deal going on right now. Not a big deal, but it'll help out with a few bucks!
