General amiibo Discussion Thread

amiibo is certainly turning out to be a big thing in Nintendo's eyes. Whether or not the rewards for utilizing each amiibo is worthy to you, Nintendo plans to implement all sorts of bonuses. It appears right now that every amiibo is meant to do 'something' in each game though games not featuring certain characters may have more limited uses or lesser-valued ones. We've had plenty of threads on here for amiibo and I'm sure that will continue. Still, I wanted to establish a general discussion thread that doesn't have a specific focus or thought. We'll also use this thread for informing the forums about upcoming news regarding new waves of amiibo or new compatibility. Enjoy! Tell us which amiibo you're planning to get! To get the party started, here are the various waves of amiibo on their way, compatibility information from Nintendo's website, and various links to other threads regarding amiibo.

Stopped at my Target on the way home from work, and apparently some guy swept in earlier and bought all the Zeldas, Macs, and Diddys.

Yup...pretty sure I'm done with this whole amiibo thing

@kgtennispro

I'm done with the "must have them all" mentality. I pre-order the ones I know that I want, then don't stress about the rest. If I find them later, great. If not, that's fine too.

The only exception was Samus, and I had her pre-ordered (but canceled her because our funds got tight that month). I got Marth on a whim, then picked up Wii Fit Trainer and Villager because I use all three of them in-game.

What the heck, someone just bought them all??

Yeah, that is pretty discouraging on trying to collect these. Stickin' with the original plan of Pit, Ness and Mega Man (and any I might get as a gift)! Between your post and all the chaos bouncing about regarding discontinued figures, it all sounds too stressful to keep up with.

Even so, I don't want to miss out on my boys within the next few months.

@kgtennispro

There should be limits on these things. G'damn. I was at Target, Gamestop, and Toysrus today. No luck preordering the Lucario in the latter joint but they all had a decent stock. Only TRU had any 2nd wave ones and it was all Zelda. I didn't buy since I have mine preordered from the TRU website.

I'd say try TRU as it had the most dedicated space out of anywhere.

@DrFinkelstein

Yeah, the TRUs near me all have a lot of space for amiibo. Best Buy is surprisingly decent too, but nowhere near what TRU's is. They just upcharge by $1 more than any other retailer, so I try not to buy from there if I don't have to.

@TriforceBun

Did you pre-order Pit? You still can on Best Buy's website if you haven't...I'd advise you do so ASAP.

I gave my local family-run shop a call tonight, and he's not selling them until Sunday.

Also, he's only getting one Little Mac and one Diddy (with a pile of Zeldas). I assume those will be the rare ones from this bunch.
He put them aside for me, like the nice guy he is. Hoo-rah!

I wonder when my Toysrus items will ship. I pre-ordered all online in an attempt to not have to run around. I don't live near actual business lol.

I was in a Toysrus today though and while I couldn't pre-order Lucario as I said before, I did just call another one and while they aren't taking in-store pre-orders, he said they should be within a month of release. Also, he claims that in-store is separate from online orders... this could bode well for those looking still to pre-order a Lucario.

Some info from Nintendo about Amiibo sales

+Around 710,000 sold so far.
+Link, Mario, Pikachu the top 3 sellers in that order (woah, Link took down Mario?!)
+Clarified (sort of) (again?!) statement about sold out Amiibo, saying they "may return" at a later date.

Got Samus tonight while I was picking up some medicine for my wife. Grrr...

@Zero

I was listening to a podcast about how Nintendo should just start selling them directly from their own site.

I would like that a lot since Amazon sellers charge up the butt for the rarer figures once they get word about shortages.

My journey is ever more stupid.

My Toysrus order from the other day is as follows...

1 Zelda, 2 Little Macs, 1 Pit, 1 Diddy Kong, 1 Sonic, and 1 Ike.

The last two aren't due to release till February. The rest are due this month.

After seeing Zelda in Toysrus today and not picking it up, I wondered what the possibility was (if need be) to cancel just that item from my online order. This was after merely wondering if the Ike and Sonic would somehow hold up the order since they aren't set to release yet...like some glitch where they wouldn't ship the December ones on time (thus running out of stock when it came time to get the last two).

First of all... most of these amiibo I purchased on there two nights ago are flat out missing from the website now. Sonic doesn't show up in the amiibo listing but can be direct-linked through my order. So that's unsettling.

Second of all... 20 minutes of idle wait music then another 20 minutes of a thick Indian accent made for a stressful call. She kind of answered my questions but she did nothing but confirm, "We don't know what the hell is going on, so... hopefully the warehouse has what you're looking for and that you actually get the item...because there may be no stock at all anyway despite your order."

This sucks major donkey balls. She said she'd cancel items from my order if they ship and I bought them from the stores so maybe I'll just have to pick these up as I see them anyway. While a lot of this is for me, the other Little Mac is for my nephew who freakin' loves Little Mac in smash. I want to surprise him with one for Christmas and this is making me weary... as is kgtennispro's tale of douchery at the Target today.

@Paleo_Orca

I asked the same question earlier myself,... Nintendo needs to just take orders and have a run to fulfill those orders. Why not?

This. It cuts out the middle man, people know what's still in circulation and what's been discontinued...it's a win for Nintendo and a win for consumers.

@ludist210

Oh good!, glad you got one.

I'm gonna check Toys R Us again tomorrow, and then make my way towards our Target. Might be checking some other stores later in the night, too. Sounds like we're lucking out for the most part though, yeah?

@kgtennispro

Those aren't even supposed to be out yet..

I talked to my co-worker (who also works at GameStop), and she told me that 3 of them were expected early next week, with the other 3 being delayed until later in the month. Something to think about, you'll be good, brother.

@ludist210

Yeah, this has potential to be deadly. I was thinking today; "you know, I can probably get one a week and be fine, its ONLY 13 dollars.." But do I need 40 of these things? Heck, NO.

@DrFinkelstein

What the Fudge, the 2nd Wave IS out already? ARGH. I'm wasting my week at home! Tomorrow could be dangerous..

@Mr_Mustache

I think your friend is right but some are leaking early. There is no real street date so I think it's just, 'when it arrives, then it's sold' kind of thing. Hopefully this uncertainty means okay things for my online order. That's crazy inefficient though if Toysrus locks you in like it does and doesn't any up-to-date stock awareness. Amazon has been doing it nearly flawlessly for years. What's with TRU being so far behind?
12/12/14, 06:04
@DrFinkelstein

Why are you still doing the online thing?? I though I/we convinced you to reserve in a store, and then just go pick it up. Whats the story, hombre?

Toys R Us is far behind? How do you mean? I seriously think your guys' cities are ""weird"" compared to the Rochester gig so far. Target has had the goofy ones, Toys R Us, I've seen EVERYTHING on their shelves (though Villager, Marth, WFT, and Yoshi weren't there early Day 1). GameStop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart; terrible variety so far, pretty much just the coriest of the core figures.

But again, I go to GameStop ("Game" is in the stores name! Its their thing!) so who knows. And every thing I've ever ORDERED / RESERVED from GameStop has come in, on Day 1, unopened, unfettered. Sorry (again) to everyone who has had bad experiences with them.
12/12/14, 06:24
Hmm, this whole situation seems crazy. I haven't bought a single one of these things yet, but my wife certainly has, though I'll be darned if I know how many. I'll find out Christmas morning. With these and the Infinity figures she gets them and usually slowly doles them out slowly over several holidays. She just asked tonight when wave 2 hits, so I thought I'd see if anything was mentioned here and I walked into this craziness. I agree with everyone that this seems to be out of hand. While I'm glad these seem to be selling well, I hate the thought that it's mostly idiots like us and not actual kids getting these. By chance I'm off tomorrow, so I'll see if I come across any wave 2, and I think I'll join the preorder group for wave 3. Hell, even the wife said to do it at this point.
12/12/14, 06:36
@Mr_Mustache

Dude, I live 30 miles from the nearest Toysrus. My city is a bit weird. When I was at the TRU yesterday looking to reserve Lucario, I saw no tickets for reserving anything, though I'm sure I could have done this at Gamestop (which is also 30 miles away now).

The closest store to me is a Target which is about 20 miles away, maybe a little more.

But I did wake up to a confirmation e-mail from Toysrus saying Diddy Kong, Zelda, and my Little Mac's shipped. So I was a bit pre-mature on that call I placed.
12/12/14, 12:51
Lucario is back up for pre-order at TRU's site, in case you're interested Fink.
12/12/14, 18:40
@ludist210

Rock on man! Thanks for the heads up! Mine is PREORDERED! Woo! I may not need Kal-El's after all. I presume it wouldn't go back in stock if they didn't think they could handle it. Awesomeness.
12/12/14, 21:26
@DrFinkelstein

On top of that, you should be getting a Marth today in the mail.
